I’m Korean. I saw this film when I was in a prep high school in Ojai years ago. What I thought at the time was, without knowing who DDL is, that they somehow found this one hell of an patriotic American psycho who literally was born and ready at 45 years old for this role. Years later I found out he was Irish and that’s when I started to watch his other films.. and I was mezmerized especially with In the Name of My Father. I didn’t come in to this whole DDL fan page out of a recommendation. I came here by my observation. The dedication.. I worship it.

Daniel Day gave Decaprio an acting class in this movie. Decaprio is less than spectacular in this movie. His accent always changes, and it proves how less of an actor that he is compared to DDL .DDL is a method actor and is HEAD AND SHOULDERS above Di Crap io. It turns out Bill fathered a child through one of his mistresses before he died that he was not aware of. The childs Mother went to Wisconsin to start a new life for them. The child ended up doing pretty well in life. Made a fortune in oil. He was a rough and tumble man too, and there was a rumor that he bludgeoned a minister to death with a bowling pin from the alley that was in his mansion. It never was confirmed. @J b For the most part be is, yeah. Tammany Hall were certainly the real villains of the film, without question. That said, Irish were indeed part of thr US' founding, and on a related side note - all that astroturfed narrative about the Irish not being considered whites that the slippery sophistic 'social construct' types blather on about is overemphasized, misrepresentative garbage to try and de-legitimize any kind of idea of countries/Peoples having a National conception of themselves; a legacy, an integrity, and a justified interest in keeping and defending that. And that's why Bill is more good than bad, for while I would judge his priorities with the Irish Q to be wonky, he hearkens to a sensibility and vitality that Kingdoms, Nations, Empires, tribes or Folkways will be conquered should they lose it.
