Hello. Ben Shumaker here in Kingsville, Maryland. I have to hand it to you, I love your videos. You’re the only one I’m subscribed to on KZfaq so I can easily find your videos. You could not do a better job at making these videos… everything from talking about your goal, the equipment you’re using, how to operate it along with being very informative/ showing exactly what the implement does, is incredibly helpful for me. What you do in every video I’ve seen is exactly what I enjoy doing and would like to be able to do. I have been researching a lot of this equipment over the last few months, but until I saw any of your videos, I have not really been able to see first hand exactly what the implement will do and if I’m able to get it to do what I want it to do. Thanks to your videos, I’m confidently able to see exactly what each implement does.

27 cubic feet is one cubic yard. That top dresser "could possibly" handle a 1.5 cubic yards of the mulch you use. Since your 2038 can lift high enough, an idea would be to add 2x12 sideboards to get more on the topdresser. But the sideboard idea is for your larger yard projects.

For the next time you buy compost in the 1st dump trailer, the loader operator should have tapped it down with the bucket to avoid from losing any material. Plus the 1st trailer needed to have a tarp that wrapped down the sides and had a tie down rope along the sides. Might have to go back roads next time as well. Highway speeds aren't usually good for lose material loads. Just for future reference.

Hi stumbled on to your channel watching my favorite Tractor Porn channels TTWT, Welker, MN MF, etc. Anyways, your math was a touch off. 1 Cubic Yard equals 27 Cubic Feet. In the future check with your materials supplier, our local site Denton Dyno Soil allows you to buy in bulk 10 yds³ or more at once even if it takes a couple trips. I bought 25 yds³ a few years ago and it saved a ton of money even though it took me 12 trips with a flatbed trailer. Denton County, Texas.

do you do any hand raking after using the top dresser? How does the top dresser deal with any lumpy compost? Has the compost been processed before you use it so that it is generally lump free?
@billburkhart23 күн бұрын
Good morning 57 Merrill, good questions. I use the chain link drag to push the compost into the grass and fluff up the grass. When I purchase it, it has been processed and has the consistency of sugar, so it’s truly lump free. I do have to hand throw some compost in areas where I can’t get into with the spreader. Enjoy your weekend and stay in touch. -Bill

Hi Bill, didn't realize I was subscribed to your channel. Appreciate your help in the other thread. I like trains, lol & subscribe to a couple of railfan channels. Neat implement - I think this is a service I could offer. I bet that's a pretty expensive piece to buy new but I really like it. Nice score getting it at auction & for it to be in such great condition. I want a 2038R but it's just too big for my property & for the type of property I expect to be working on. A 1025R is probably big enough but I want something slightly larger so I'm down to a 2025R, B2401 (gear drive), or B2601. I'm leaning towards one of the Kubota's in this frame size for a number of reasons (there are things I like about both) & really towards the gear drive odd as that seems given HST's are all the rage but need to go up to Messick's & test one out. Since you don't have any push pins in the mid Atlantic, I'm in Severna Park, Maryland.

Hi Daniel merry Christmas. Sounds like you’ve thought through this very well so you’ll be just fine. Thanks for letting me know you’re in Maryland, wish I was close enough to drive to Penns and buy from Neil.
@danielsharon5243 жыл бұрын
@@billburkhart Merry Christmas to you as well. I hate to say "too much" research as it's a big purchase & one that you have to live with for a while although obviously you traded up & these do hold their value, but I've definitely thought about it extensively or more accurately obsessed over it:). Both the Kubota and JD dealers tried to steer me into a BX & 1025R respectively. Both seem just a tad small but a 2038R seems huge. If subcompact I'd definitely go 1025R and in the next size up would likely go w/a 2038R but in the B2601 (or 2401) vs. 2025R, the difference to me was clear: Other than the single point hydraulic connector, JD has more convenience/appearance features & Kubota has more "real tractor" functionality. It's hard to justify the former & while I'm not a treadle pedal fan, it's not the reason to go gear drive but not having that "feature" is an added benefit. I truly enjoy the manual transmission in my pickup (both physically shifting & the control) and have plowed snow with a manual and liked that. The salesman thinks I'm nuts and once I drive it I'll realize it's not the right way to go but I think I'll like and adapt quite well even for loader work (the shifter even seems to be set up optimally for it). There's a great vid of a Kubota tech driving one after assembling it and it looks like a blast! I was not impressed w/my local Kubota dealer. There are two or 3 other dealers that are closer but Messick's is about 90 min. away and the salesman there has been extremely helpful. Looking forward to making a trip up there. Delaware has no sales tax so that is an issue w/buying from Messick's (about $2k) but we'll see what happens. Apparently prices can vary that much from dealer to dealer anyway and the dealer in DE knows they have a competitive advantage & may use that to boost their profits. All things (close to) equal & I'd rather buy from Neil.

I’m guessing this works with sand as well. Sand is an excellent leveling material for lawns too. Nice video. Your smaller JD might be the best tow rig for the spreader too since it’s a bit more nimble.

@@billburkhartyou should use a sand peat mixture. Holds enough water but also drains well, compost isn't good for your yard. It's way to much organic material that's only going to lead to even more thatch.. you would of been better off verticutting than aeration. This is coming from a superintendent. Golf courses are far different than home lawns hence why we aerate countless times during the year plus verticutting, we punch holes at varying depths, from 12 inches deep to 2 inches. We do this because If you punch holes at the same depth every time it leads to layering in the soil, this in turn leads to black layer, something no one wants
@billburkhart11 ай бұрын
@chosen1one930 Interesting for sure. I am going to start aerating again in the next two weeks. I’ll take a hard look at your recommendations. Thanks so much for taking time to make me aware of your opinion. -Bill

Bill, have you tried the 700 series mower to pull the spreader???? I'm looking at turning radius around your yard. My Kubota would possibly make tearing spots with having the R1 AG tires.
@billburkhart2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, yes, I've pulled the dresser with the 700 series and my Kawasaki Mule. I guess the lawn damage depends on how wet the ground is. We finally got rain here in Iowa and I tore up some areas on the hillside mowing grass with the 700 series. I don't know why I don't use the 700 to pull it. I'll try and remember to do that next spring. Hope you're having a nice fall.

@@billburkhart I am looking at using a smaller to machine to get around corners and tight areas. OR maybe take off the loader, but then you would have to load the top dresser by hand.
