Peter Norkawich the details of all the things along the way just blows my mind. How long does it take to actually build a layout of this scale and how many people are involved? It's mind blowing to me? And I hate to pry but how much money ? Just an estimate?

Always fun to see what you can pull off in the model world. Imagine the dispatcher would have been pulling his hair out - not many siding that can handle a 104-car train! And stopping for water and coal...6 times at each tank, the crew would be dead on the law by the first stop!

So many model railroad videos are hard to watch because of the poor videography. My congratulations to your videographer, it is terrific. And the railroad is stunningly good, too. I think I hear a cockatiel chirping in the background at times. I liked that, too.

SIX steamers? What kind of DCC system allows that? Or, was this a very well coordinated effort of three operators which would make this an actual helper situation? Then there's the meets! Amazing! I have to get to Greeley! WELL DONE, everyone!

The museum uses NCE DCC. Consisting can be a confusing subject. Tony's Trains usually has good model railroading articles. Have a look at tonystrains.com/complete-guide-to-consisting/
@randallhawkinson4727
@randallhawkinson4727 7 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Sir. I'm learning more and more about NCE as I prepare to install the Digitrax system I invested in for my Pacific Crest. Our club (Monterey & Salinas Valley Railroad Museum) uses Digitrax and I wanted to have my layout and fleets be compatible. Hearing what I have been hearing regarding Digitrax's customer service recently, I will only have the guys that installed the Museum's Digitrax system install it on my layout. I don't dare do it myself! I invested too much to turn around now.
@billr991

I have a Digitrax system installed on my home layout. I used their customer service several years ago to upgrade a throttle. At that time their service was fine. I have never had any significant problems with any Digitrax products.

Excellent video, Bill. A couple of questions: Are the 8000 class brass? Do you installed Tsunami 2 on these? I'm usually not much fan from Tsunami, but these sound pretty good. Second question. My camera is just about to give up. What camera are you using. I noticed that has very good depth of field and resolution for dark environment. Cheers.

Sorry I can't tell you much about the locomotives as they don't belong to me. The consist belongs to another CMRM volunteer. The camera was a Sony Handycam that is no longer available. I have since replaced it with a Sony FDR-AX 53 Handycam. It will shoot in 4K and has Balanced Optical Steady Shot for hand-held work.

Thanks for your comment Gary, but the thumbs down are inconsequential. At this moment there are 12 down and 460 up. That's 97% thumbs up. How often do you see that kind of agreement about anything? :-)

Don't understand why Steam Engines would be using DPU's. Each engine has to a full crew to operate, why wouldn't they just break the long train into 6 smaller trains? I do understand this is a model layout running DCC and you can build the train with a 6 engine consist but shouldn't it be more realistic?
