Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Union Budget for 2022-23, said that the Special Economic Zones Act will be replaced with a new legislation. The New Act will enable the states to become partners in Development of Enterprise and Service Hubs

The New SEZ act should also lay a special focus on cluster manufacturing or 1 type of sector manufacturing in a particular area inside SEZ. For. A particular SEZ or area under SEZ should focus only on Electronics manufacturing, assembling & it's components manufacturing to build an ecosystem. Another SEZ could or another area could focus on only Furniture based industries or only Renewable Energy based industries to help accelerate Solar Cell Manufacturing, Wind Turbine Manufacturing etc.
