Just what I was looking for on this subject. It was hard to find this info in this amount of detail. Bravo!

Resto was banned for life because of his reckless disregard for Collins life. He didn’t have to allow his gloves to be doctored

Nope. No second chances for murderers. He could've easily killed Billy inside the ring. It's a goddamn sport. Have some regard for your opponent's life at least.

But didn’t Billy die the next year? He basically did kill him. I’m not very familiar with boxing but this story pisses me off

The dad must have known it's true trainers dad's and refs someone must be aware of this sort of damage and when something seems amiss like this investigate earlier before more damage occurs, so sad

No, sorry bad generalization. 1983 people definitely were better people than people are today. The world is 10x a shittier place today. Some things are better, but it sure as hell isn't the people. People today think their entitled, constantly offended, and don't have the good sense to debate, instead they get mad, and walk off as soon as they realize their argument is shit. No people in the 80s were more true that today's President. People today give a fuck, but mostly only about themselves. I was there, and I would go back in a hot second if it were possible.

Sad story. Resto wasn't mature enough it seems. He showed true remorse years later. I blame his trainer 100%.

He paid his dues, his trainer did this with other fighters, and he apologized. He should be given a 2nd chance.

The ref is to be blamed the most. Fighters will always look for the easy way out. It's the refs who need to be aware and strict.

What about boxing commission ? They supposed to watch each fighter get his gloves taped and hands wrapped.

He should have been given a second chance, it was his manager who manipulated this young fighter (Resto) because Panama Lewis accepted money from a drug dealer who wanted to place a large bet and Panama manipulated this young man. I still think the commission should reverse their decision as they denied Resto for life when he paid his dues, apologized to the family and said he was young. He went to their corner to shake hands, otherwise nobody would have known what Panama did. Panama of course denied it and never apologized to anybody. Panama got a 2nd chance, was licensed in PA and trained Mike Tyson, was that fair? A young talented fighter was not allowed to make a living in the sport he loved. At 28, can you really argue with a saavy older man like Panama Lewis who was promising Resto all type of things but never delivered, just set him up for ruin. Panama said he would take care of Resto but never did despite wearing gold rings on every finger. Resto came clean, Panama never did, I feel for Resto being persecuted for life for something that he was manipulated into when he was young.
