Michael Jackson's Billy Jean is one of the great pop songs of all time, and provides some interesting challenges for the violinist. In this tutorial I go step by step through each section of the piece. I start with the drum beat, which can be played on violin as a simple chopping pattern. Next is the bass riff, played either arco or pizzicato. Then the three chord string section which runs through most of the song. I show how all three of these parts can be played simultaneously- a great party trick! I play the vocal melody through the verse and chorus, show how to do fills, and finally demonstrate a solo using the F sharp minor blues scale.
