This song covers world events during my childhood. I was born in 1954, and I remember most of what he mentions. If just 2 or 3 years earlier, I would have remembered it all.

Yeah Billy was born in 1949 and turned 40 in 1989 when he wrote this and it covers the key events and people during his lifetime at that time, after someone around 20 years or so younger than him said nothing much happened during his youth.

He wrote this song after he ran into Sean Lennon and a friend in the recording studio. They got to talking and told Billy that growing up during his era was so much easier because nothing really happened. The song starts with history from 1949, the year Billy was born. This was also the only song he ever wrote the lyrics first to,. As a result he says the melody is pretty lame, but he sure carries it off with his creativity. Billy is also a huge history buff.

Anyway, someone made a video with this song and put the images of what he was referring to in the song, such as, who is Doris Day and the cola wars: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/maqAodaFt6faeYE.html Someone else also did it with the song The Day the Music Died: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h9Oper1nmbCdqZs.html I'm not usually big on fan videos, but these videos help explain what the these singers were singing about.

I’m old enough to remember when this song was released. There were a lot of music critics, back when that was an actual job, whereas music critics now it’s just the general internet population, I digress... Yeah a lot of critics hated this song on the basis that he was sing rapping just random historical pop culture and the song had no impact. I always thought that was bullshit. There is lyrical progression in every verse if you know what each and every reference is to. Sadly if you’re younger than 35ish this would require a solid 3 months worth of historical research.

To be honest ... I don't like reaction videos where I have to see/hear the whole music-video (i already do know) and just have to wait for the reaction afterwards ... So actually I'm only listening to the intro and skip to the end! Everything else and inbetween is a waste of time for me! Some people give a "thumb up", because they liked the song they like before as well and like that you are reacting to it ... I mean like: "Oh! He does Billy ... Thumbs up and now I start the video!". Don't get me wrong, but I just want you to know! Maybe it's because I am from Germany ... Germans don't like to waste time at all! ;-) ^^+gg Oh yeah! I am gonna give this video a "Thumb down" just for reasons... Sorry!
