A mythical figure in basketball history, Billy Ray Bates was the Wilt Chamberlain of the PBA for 4 seasons. The man averaged over 45 PPG in the Philippines after a short but memorable career in the NBA.

I can't believe I actually met Billy Ray Bates back in 2016 on the bus. I didn't know who he was, but I looked him up later. We had a good chat for a good 30-45 minutes until he got off at his stop. I looked him up and he looked just like the the person I was talking to, just older.

I think hes like 6'2" , 6'3" however that vertical leap , so fantastic evry time he slammed that ball. He was the 1st PBA import I really admired then.

Those were the days that watching pba is spectacular. The likes of billy ray bates , dexter shouse , david thirdkill, rob williams , michael hackett, michael young , carlos brigss , tony harris to name a few. Those imports are worth to watch for. Averaging 40+ per game

He was not charles barkley clone, he was MJ before Kobe & LBJ with grandslams championships multiple titles here in asia's first professional league the PBA(Phillippine Basketball Association)...He was 4times best import, HOF & monickered here as the "BlackSuperman".

He's the best import during the 80's, he's much better than the local players during his prime coz he's an NBA caliber type of player. As for all other imports, it depends how good they are. Some local players were much better.

I looked this guy up because I wanted to know what happened due to his short career. During Magic Johnson and Larry Bird’s rookie and sophomore years in the nba this man stepped up big time for the trailblazers in the playoffs even though he didn’t average much in the regular season.

I. Probably never heard of him because. He was a a great half ball playerno passing no defense would make a good pro nowadays all that plus steps d ouble dribble and other things you were not allowed to do in the 80s and before that. TODAYS GAME HAS. GOT AWAY FROM WHAT MADE GREAT PLAYERS GREAT

bates was so unstopable.first game was against san miguel..hndi talaga nila.kayang bantayan.nagpakawala muna sya nang sunod sunod straight 3 points.wla sablay.ang gulo sa araneta.wla panh import na nakagawa nun.dahil hndi talaga sya kayang bantayan.un player ng san mig na si anthony dasalla.sinapak ata si bates.muntik na magkagulo.
