It is heartwarming to hear to hear the songs I grew up with played today by such a talented soulful young man. My dad, who is 73, advised me to check out Billy Strings. I had my 1 yo granddaughter over, I went to take a shower and came downstairs afterwards to see great granddad and the baby dancing around the living room listening to Billy Strings. How awesome is that!?!?! Great Grandpa introducing her to the music that HE grew up with and her laughing and loving it! I wish I could post the video. It is precious!

If Billy would have released this around the same time as rich men north of Richmond and try that in a small town with the political climate the way it is this song still wouldn’t get the recognition it deserves

My God! Just My God!!! This can be used by mid level acoustic guitarists to advance their game. Just watch and learn it one step at a time and once you get it you've moved your guitar game up big time. but aside from the lesson potential this is an incredible solo performance of a song written by Strings about the state of our times, how jobs have gone away and infrastructure is crumbling and the playing is so fluid from verse to solo sections in a way that is lacking even in a time where everyone and their mother is playing something on an acoustic guitar on YT these days! People are banging all over them, they're doing all sorts of beautiful fancy technical licks but more often than not it falls empty on me anyway. THIS is soulful and beautiful AND technically slick as hell, and I don't miss the knocking and pounding all over the guitar.

@@farmalltractor he hardly puts Tony to shame. I get you’re probably young but there’s tons of badass guitar players. Billy's writing reminds me of John Prine. You can listen to his songs every day and find more meaning to the words every time. He is more talented than he knows and we are blessed that he is sharing his love of music with us. I truly love this guy.
@mattkav6843 жыл бұрын
This feels like heresy almost: he is right there with Doc Watson and Norman Blake. There. I said it, and I mean it.
@davestagner3 жыл бұрын
It's him, but it's not just him. We have Molly and Sierra too, and other great young players carrying the bluegrass torch forward into the future, without forgetting or dismissing the past. They're integrating classic rock, jam band music, punk, and modern sounds, and making it all part of the great continuum of bluegrass. It's an incredibly exciting era for the genre! But yeah, Billy. He's not just a great player, he's an important player. I hear him and I think of Tony Rice, Jerry Garcia, Clarence White, but especially Doc Watson. He has that integration as a player, that way of using the guitar to express so perfectly where he fits in our great American musical tradition.
