I saw Ween live last year. Shockingly, Dean’s high pitched squeaky tone that he uses in songs like Don’t Laugh I Love You isn’t sped up or altered in any way. He can just do that with his voice. What a god.

For me, The Mollusk IS the ocean. I mean it's kind of obvious judging by the title of it, but I was really touched when I first heard the whole album and I immediately felt the vibe and feeling of being underwater, or in a submarine, or in a shore full of fishermen, or in a bar at night with a bunch of drunken sailors. It was eerily fascinating how the music could bring such an specific aesthetic and sensation to my head. And still is pretty amazing for me and it really inspires me. And now that I know that it also inspired Stephen Hillenburg to create my favorite cartoon of all time I can't help but feel absolute happiness. Praise Boognish.

The fact that The Mollusk came out in 1997 surprises me every time I hear it. It sounds like something that would have been created today. I think the album will be remembered as timeless.

I like The Pod just as it is, but Ween never intended for those to be the final versions of the songs. When Kramer at Shimmydisc wanted to release it, they told him they would re-record all the tracks more properly and Kramer said, "No! This 4-track stuff is the shit."

WHY DOES EVERYONE HATE 12 GOLDEN COUNTRY GREATS?

I was drunk the first time I listened to The Pod. It was a miserable experience.

The Mollusk is one of my favorite albums of all time and has made me delved so much deeper into their discography. I love that you did a worst to best because I really thought that most people only know of Ocean Man and MAYBE the Mollusk. While I love it, the rest of their discography is worth a listen.

Ween is incredibly underrated. Got into them during Covid and their music seriously brightened what was a really dark time for me. I’ve listened to their entire discography and there truly isn’t a bad Ween record. The Mollusk, Chocolate and Cheese, and Quebec are the three undisputed champs in their discography imo. I’d consider giving all three of those 10/10 ratings.

I got into them in high school. Like most people, I learned about them through Spongebob. I spent a short while re-listening to Ocean Man constantly, and then I noticed youtube recommended "Waving My Dick In The Wind" and the name alone peaked my interest, the rest is history. This was the first time I had gotten into a niche and slightly obscure band, it was a weird feeling being the only one among my immediate friend group that knew about them. The second Ween album I listened to was The Pod, and surprisingly, despite it's brownness, I liked it quite a lot. It just sounded so different to anything else I had heard up to that point. Keep in mind, before Ween, the music I listened to was either EDM, 2000s rock/metal, and trap/hip hop. I can safely say that Ween is what expanded my horizons and allowed me to enjoy other "alternative music" down the line, like Mr Bungle and Frank Zappa.

Wow, White pepper is my second favourite ween album. My first is the mollusk.

You have the top 3 spot on. Quebec and The Mollusk are masterpieces, while CaC has some of the most nostalgic moments for me personally. Ween were great. When I think of the 90s and early 00s, I can't help but put Ween somewhere in the sountrack.

The Pod is the best album ever made.

"I Don't Want It" is my favorite track on Quebec, mainly due to the ending guitar solo. The song was already sad enough, but when that feedback sounds and Deaner starts playing, it's like getting punched in the gut.

In my opinion, White Pepper is my favorite Ween album (at least out of the ones I've listened to). I was disappointed that it was below The Pod and Pure Guava, albums I've never enjoyed much, but I respect your opinion nonetheless.

While I don't agree entirely with your list, I'm very impressed with your review and how you gave good reason and detail for all your opinions. The beauty of Ween is each individual has their own take on their albums (for example, quebec wouldn't make my top 5, but I prefer it to pretty much any other bands albums lol). Their fans (flam) are intensely passionate and loyal to most of their Music and the community. I implore you to hear me out regarding Guava and Pod, though: I understand they can appear unlistenable to most people, but the beauty is knowing these songs well enough and THEN experiencing them live. Songs from 'the Pod' like 'Frank', 'She Fucks Me' and 'Laura' are absolutely untouchable live. Then from 'Pure Guava', 'Tender Situation' is an emotional meltdown at times and nothing is more fun than 'Big Jilm.' Even 'Touch My Tooter' is great to watch live.

The Pod is the top Ween album for me - to me it is the quintessential showcase of what makes Ween special which is of course brownness. I get that lo-fi production isn't for everyone but, as far as that angle goes, a lot of the songs on The Pod are actually really fleshed out musically and conceptually and even catchy. Once I got over the hurdle of normalising the harsh and sickly aesthetic it became an endlessly enjoyable source of creativity and kickassedness. I will admit that Jammy Pac's only real merit as an opener is scaring off new listeners from even giving track 2 a chance because it's just so deliberately terrible but you know what I respect it for that. Of course papa Mollusk is a close second, he's like the mature version of the Pod with a beard and a sailor uniform. He couldn't ever have been so cool if he didn't go through his trailblazing punk phase in his youth though.

Billy, as someone who's been a Ween fan since (I'm assuming) before you were born, I don't agree with your overall ranking, though my #1 is the same as yours. (But I have "White Pepper" as #2, so …) Regardless of that, you obviously put a lot of thought into this, and a lot of work in the editing process, and I greatly respect that. Kudos! But seriously, listen to "Stay Forever" again. That's my second-favorite Ween song, after "Ocean Man."

Now I’m 55, “White Pepper” has become the new favorite for me. Its the best songwriting - for sure. It seems some rank “White Pepper” high and some low. Interesting. I Still like some of early crazy stuff as a collection. They have something for everyone. I consider them the Beatles of Pennsylvania.

Big Fat Fuck is seriously a contender for one of my favorite songs of all time. Just the way you enunciate "Fuck" made your succinct synopsis of the song so much better

I listened to the pod for the first time on lsd, and it was a trip!!! I'm so glad I got to see them twice. one year on Halloween. They came out in chicken costumes. one of my favorite bands of all time. I'm a 35 year old man and I've heard a lot of music in my life, he'll it is my life, ween has done it all. They mimic any band if they wanted to its too hard for me to pick a favorite whatever album is playing is my favorite. Love them and all the fans

If this guy was annoying and arrogant, I'd be somewhat angry that he put White Pepper at the bottom, but that's not the case because he clearly displays an understanding of the band's discography and justifies his opinion properly. With My Own Bare Hands is one of the greatest metal songs ever written!

My wife surprised me with tickets to see WEEN when they performed in Miami back around 2018. I was so happily surprised when we arrived to find the venue to be a relatively small roadhouse theatre; I was expecting a a mega coliseum. After the show, we hung out sharing a smoke with some other folks who had attended. I yelled out to their bus that my son would ask for a signature if he could speak and/or knew who they were. They gave my wife a WEEN head, constructed of a circular saw blade with eyes and teeth welded on. The bassist also signed an old Spongebob shirt I found at a goodwill, "Spongebob Rebel Pants"

9. La Cucaracha - By no means a bad album - in fact, it's an above-average album, but it's just last for me. Ending their discography with the lyric "The wife and I thank you very much" is nice to me because it shows the development from "You fucked up, you bitch". This is still a really good album. 8.5/10 8. The Pod - I feel terrible about putting this one so low, but all their other albums are so good. This one is a little hard to listen to some times because of the brownness. My favorite song on here might be opener Strap On That Jammy Pac. 9/10 7. Pure Guava - A little bloated, but it's still a fun and really enjoyable listen. Push Th' Little Daisies might be my favorite, but I don't know. 9/10 6. 12 Golden Country Greats - I'm not the biggest fan of country music, so I was surprised by how much I liked this album. My favorite song is Piss Up A Rope. 9/10 5. GodWeenSatan: The Oneness - Could've been higher, but like Ween's first few albums, I just think it's a little too long. Don't Laugh I Love You is nice. 9/10 4. Chocolate and Cheese - The first god-tier Ween album imo. Take Me Away is so extremely underrated. And everybody knows how awesome Roses Are Free is. 10/10 3. Quebec - One that has definitely grown on me overtime. The Argus just might be Ween's best song. This album is so therapeutic and lovely. 10/10 2. pure guava will always be number one man

I feel like I notice a lot of Ween fans live in southeastern Pennsylvania. Including me. I saw them live for the first time in December of 2019 at Met Philly. When it comes to their brown and lo-fi songs from Pod and Guava, studio versions are a give or take for me. But I feel that some of those songs have spawned some great live performances. Especially songs like Stallion Part 3 and Big Jilm. A lot of songs that sound okay in the album sound absolutely amazing live. My list is... 10: Pure Guava 9: La Cucaracha 8: The Pod 7: Shinola 6: 12 Golden Country Greats (To be honest, some of the best production quality of any country album I've ever heard.) 5: GodWeenSatan 4: White Pepper 3: Chocolate And Cheese 2: The Mollusk 1: Quebec, I just feel that everything considered including what you stated in the video makes me love this album so much that it takes my personal number 1 spot. Every song makes me enjoy this album.

Im from missouri and my uncle introduced me to ween at a young age, i liked their wierd funny songs, but the more i dug into the albums later in life i realized how full of meaning and poetic the lyrics tend to be even when they are absurd.

I was really anticipating "12 Golden Country Greats" but did not anticipate it was be a legitimate country album ( never been a big fan of country). Did not care for La Cucarocha.
