Pretty neat tutorial Warren, you really have a knack for this stuff. Ah, the bimini twist, likely the most renowned and esoteric fishing knot in existence. I can remember attempting to learn this one as a kid because of how everyone claimed it was the strongest knot in existence so it became akin to climbing mt Kilimanjaro as you mentioned, something I just had to try and learn because it was the best and hardest to master at the time. The thing is I never really found a common use for it as my fishing passion evolved. I have maybe seen this knot used once by a charter tuna trip but now with crimping it is becoming a lost knot. But after watching your recent short on the preliminary results of the strength test, this knot may need to be revisited and added back into our arsenals!

At home I use the Aussie braid finished by doubling the tag as recommended by Geoff Wilson in his knot books, mostly only tying the Bimini in small line sizes and in braided line. I find that the Aussie braid works better for wind-on leaders. If I have to tie a double out on the water I will always go with the Bimini finished with the Rizzuto. Using a smaller loop of line under the last wraps of the Bimini to pull the tag under the wraps (like finishing whipping a rod wrap) is easier than reversing the Rizzuto wraps as per normal. I find it easier to make a bit longer double and using my knees to spread the initial loop to make the outer wrap. Just make sure you don't use too much pressure which can leave mono deformed where it comes out of the wraps. Braid is easy to work with except for unrolling the Rizzuto wraps in small and, especially, limp braids. I use more wraps in braid so it will be interesting to see your tests in different line types and strengths. I only have full fluorocarbon line, Berkley Vanish and 100% fluorocarbon Trilene, on a couple of small baitcasters and I use a modified Albright if using a different leader on them so tests of the Bimini in fluorocarbon aren't as useful for me.

Love it wazza! I’ve been doing 40-50 wraps with 80lb braid, looking forward to see how 20-25 wraps holds up if it makes any difference or not. I start the over wraps loose then snug next to each other, kinda like doing a haywire twist in single strand wire(even twists first then barrel wraps second). I prefer the Bimini to the Aussie plait, I think it easier, but the plait may be stronger, I dunno. In a seat, the best 3rd hand is your big toe or whole foot, works like a charm ;)

what is to stop it from breaking on the loop? the one that goes around the arbo or hook eye etc if it fails there it means it failed on the knot so is it still considered 100%?

How does surgeon loop knot compare to this knot? Thanks
