@marklynn5899 Yeah. They're just two assholes who, instead of helping Andy overcome his traumas, traumatized him further by destroying what was left of his childhood. And whether Chucky was real or not was irrelevant. Even if Chucky never existed, they were still in the wrong. Because, in a context in which Chucky is not real, Phil was cruel to adopt Andy and then want to send him away after less than a day, just because it was true that he had problems (which they had told him about in advance) and he wants avoid him instead of helping him solve them. He demands at all costs that a child's nightmares and traumas disappear instantly with a snap of his fingers, instead of working on them gradually. And Joanne plays the kind and understanding mother throughout the film, but in the end she reveals that she is just a weak and selfish woman, and that she never loved Andy with a mother's love. She saw him only as a means to fill the void in her heart because she was infertile and she could not have children of her own. She never had the strength or love of a real mother. Out of selfishness she wanted to keep Andy, and out of selfishness she sent him away. And she was unfair in every sense to blame Andy for Phil's death because, even in a context where Chucky didn't exist, what fault did Andy have if Phil had tripped? These are accidents that happen. The truth is that Joanne would have blamed Andy in any context. And in fact we see that Phil and Joanne's actions were not without consequences because in the third film, through their fault, we discover that Andy no longer trusted the subsequent adoptive families. Even the Dursleys treated Harry Potter better than Phil and Joanne treated Andy. Sure, they were cruel to him, but at least they were honest. They never filled Harry's head with illusion and false hope and then destroyed it all.

@marklynn5899 Exact. Joanne fooled Andy into thinking she loved him, she made him believe she would take care of him, and instead in this scene she stabs him behind her back. And in fact we see how her actions have traumatized him forever, as in the third film we discover that because of what Phil and Joanne did to him, Andy no longer trusted the adoptive families who came after them. And you can't blame Chucky for this precisely because Joanne would have blamed Andy for Phil's death in any context, even if Chucky had never existed. @sarahsan5946 I agree. I was hoping at least before Phil died, he says to Andy something like "I'm sorry I never believed you" and then he dies. Plus at a time like this, it would have been great if his mom Karen and Detective Mike Norris was here where they would have bailed him out saying that he's innocent that it really was Chucky who murdered Phil.

@AmongUs567 Well, my guess is that Andy's heart must be pumping with fear at that point not wanting to get anywhere near to Chucky especially after Chucky jumped on him and was sitting on him the whole time from 0:01-0:11 and from 0:28-0:45 which is probably another reason why he didn't try to save Phil. However, even if Andy tried saving him, Andy wouldn't have been very strong enough to prevent him from getting brain damaged (that is, if that was what Phil died from) even if Andy held Phil's head preventing it from hitting the floor.

The reason I think this is because Andy's mom Karen and Detective Mike Norris are so far the only two survivors that knows that Chucky is alive and perhaps if one or both of them walked in the house as Joanne and Kyle came into the basement, and if Andy said "I didn't kill Phil, it was Chucky" where Karen could say "he's telling the truth" and maybe Detective Mike Norris would hold up his police badge and say to Joanne something like "Mrs. Simpson, I'm Detective Norris and whatever Andy is saying about the doll Chucky being alive and killing Mr. Simpson is completely true, Chucky even almost got me killed" where after that Joanne and Kyle would feel that Andy was being truthful hearing information from a detective. Regarding Andy, as the years went on, the other survivors who would have stuck up for him would be Kyle, Ronald Tyler, and Kristen Desilva.

Plus, I was hoping that after he hit the floor, Andy came up to him and was still alive and he says to Andy something like, "I'm sorry I never believed you and was questioning you, run out of the basement fast and warn Joanne and Kyle" and then he dies where Joanne and Kyle see Phil dead on the floor then. (It definitely would have been great if Karen Barclay and Detective Mike Norris came at the front door at the same time which would have bailed Andy out right then and there).

Are you telling me that Andy, Karen, Maggie, Kyle, Ms. Kettlewell, Grace Pool , Tyler, Desilva, Botnick, Cochrane, Shelton and so on - didn't so much as strain or notice when picking up a 28" tall doll that weighed as much as a grown man ? The OP poses a good question. Ultimately it's a movie about a kids toy possessed by a killer with a high body count. It doesn't have to make much sense. I'm just glad most of Chucky's kills involve him catching his victims by surprise.
