it's a testament to how good this game is that i did quite a few of the "speed run strats" (bouncing off walls to avoid falling straight down, dangling above the core when you're forced to use the 3way) as a kid playing this game "casually". in other words, it rewards the kind of mastery you expect for speedrunning. just an awesome game for exploring for glitches and refining movement technique. great run and commentary.

One is the runners name (PJ) the other (PJDICESARE) was his Twitch handle, indicated by the little Twitch icon.

I always look forward to PJ's runs during GDQ week. As a kid, I finished this game and then sold it, along with several other games, to pay for an SNES. Oh how I wish I had all those games back.

Favorite NES game of all-time. Love watching speedruns but this was amazing and the funniest speedrun commentary I've heard yet. Great job.

The Iron Boots actually does something! With them on, you will kill any enemies you swing into.

FYI - Iron Boots allow you to kill enemies by swinging into them

In theory, yes. They would only be useful against one enemy type though, and I have never had success swinging through them. In practice, the Iron Boots are actively harmful to use. In theory, they're fine.

As long as the enemy didn't have a "damage zone" in front of them, like the bezerkers with the knife in front of them, I never really had an issue. Yes, they were situational, but they had some utility

Wait, wait, wait. How did Hype Mode make an appearance? Is this, like, a custom romhack? Was Murph hiding out with the Power Up guys and played the effect manually? I'm not arguing, Hype Mode is awesome, but how did that happen? What's the secret?
