Fun Fact: Love was never decanonized. It was just never canon in the first place. The reason why it's present in the movies and Mnog are that those creators had strong creative control over their own projects. That's why you see things that are unexplained in other Bio media (like takanuva's resurrection ritual) or things that outright contradict previous media (Takua's and jallers personality in the movies, as well as Vakama's in Web of Shadows). Meme's are cool and all, but people need to realize Greg was just the messenger for this information. He didn't set these ground rules, nor did he think it made sense for him to change them (MU inhabitants can't reproduce, so why would they need romantic love?)

I feel an argument could be made that for some of the media featuring/referencing "romance," it's more about the two developing a mental/emotional relationship that ends up being more "intimate" than others because of how they get along. Even without the need for physical intimacy, there may still be the desire/need for emotional intimacy. Hmm, that kind of got away from me.

Solek and Takua's friendship was very much canon. It's not hard to believe that two matoran could get so close that it would become a somewhat romantic relationship. I think "non-cannon love" in the context of bionicle is just sexual.

The funniest part, I think, that if Vakama fell for those silver rhakshi heads, it would've still been more reasonable motivation than "I just hate everyone now and forgot about my character development in the previous movie".

@@Garmagic2yFhenrakh9 Heh, well if you take to account how Vakama was blamed for Nokama's idea of searching for disks that ended up being refused, that would make him quite frustrated. But it would take just a simple reminder of what Lhikan sacrificed himself for to make Vakama sober up and be more patient with his teammates. I still think the main problem is how Roodaka was handled, if we gonna go that road of toa metru turning hordika, Roodaka should've done something far more smart. The toa didn't know she was leading the visorak, so she could've ordered Sidorak to poison toa with hordika venom and then come to their rescue herself, pretending that she's just a random girl on their side and wants to take down the evil king Sidorak. That way she could've earned toa's trust to harvest their powers for freeing Teridax and slowly bring discord to their unity, manipulating Vakama, or Matau, setting them against one-another. Eventually they would realise she's using them and bring her down, but by that time it it'd be too late. At least that way she'd have more ways to influence all the toa and make them drop their guard, so she could twist their ideals and make some of the toa think that leaving matoran in Metru nui is a better option, or something like that, or that toa shoudn't give up their powers for waking up the matoran. So you could justify all the conflicts in the team by Roodaka being too deceiving and good of an actress, taking advantage of toa's desperation to turn back normal. (Lol and to think I'd wanna redeem her character anyway, but I think i know a way to do it more naturally. If she doesn't immideately changes, but kinda reflexes on her actions a little in the pit with Brutaka and other minor villains, blames Teridax for her misery, then pretends she's a good girl now, so she could be sent to a redemption mission and help spoil Teridax's plans, but after meeting the Mata Nui on Bara Bagna slowly admits her past mistakes, starts to realise that maybe it's better to let go of her past self and really change )

We're at a point where most people that had bionicle as kids are either adults or teenagers (G2 didn't do that well last I checked) If they want to ship characters together they have every right to at this point

You could honestly say this is all still cannon, People can still have a very very passionate friendship but not be sexually attracted to each other whatsoever.

@cousinfilmsltd7701 it was around the time of the Bohrok animations, specifically the bit where Hewkii and Macku nearly kiss. He said something along the lines of "love between matoran doesn't exist in the human sense". I personally interpreted that as relationships being driven by the virtue of Unity, a "platonic" love in more human terms, but there wasn't really a notion of romance to Matoran. Of course people just say "Love Isn't Canon" for the memes.

The frendship is cannon, but can friendship really be possible without love? Can unity be possible? Unlikely.

@mehwhatever9726 there is the notion of a "platonic" relationship, people who deeply care for each other but are otherwise not romantically or sexually interested in each other. Greg never actually said the words "love isn"t canon", it was more "matoran don't have the same idea of love as humans do" or words to that effect. Unity is still possible without love or even without friendship, and could even stem from an ideal of Duty (I stand with these people not because I like them, but because it is my duty to look out for them) a mindset that might be held by a soldier or a doctor, who protect or care for people that cannot do so themselves.

Romance doesn't exist for matoran/toa/turaga simply because they have no need for it, they're biomechanical constructions who were created by a mysterious race of beings. They literally just don't have kids, and they weren't made to have them either. Agori and glatorian do have the capacity for romantic feelings because they are organic beings who reproduce biologically, and existed for millennia prior to the existence of the Matoran Universe. Besides, not allowing romance means BIONICLE got to skip a lot of the useless love triangles and other plotlines that other kid franchises /love/ to pursue, just look at Ninjago.

Toa Volans no love? Then where does Gali and Nokama’s ability to love her people and Toa I wonder, and Sidorak has the Boner for Roodaka I wonder? Even Cybertronians have the ability to love and they’re Biomedical beings aswell.

@@Legonathan100 no ROMANCE, not no love. Brotherly love still exists. Romance is a specific subset of love and that is what is not canon. Also, Sidorak and Roodaka are two separate species and most of what we see between them is from the Miramax movies. The Miramax movies are some sort of loose canon, and romantic stuff got added in because movie. Greg has said himself that "marriage" within the Matoran Universe was a power agreement rather than a romantic thing. The Miramax movies being soft-canon is also why Matau tells Nokama that he would go on a "romantic drive-fly" with her. It was added in because "haha kids movie-" it's a non-canon exchange. Lastly, just because one franchise has certain natural laws does not mean every similar franchise must adhere to those same laws.

Toa Volans I don’t think it matters anymore since this franchise is dead, so it’s up to us to decide now!
