When I was about 17, my best friend and I finished the entire game in one night, staying up until about 6 in the morning, feeding on nothing but Doritos and Coca Cola. We were so mesmerised by every aspect of the game. We were so mind blown by the story. It was a really fun night. This was years ago. Eventually life happened, I moved to a different continent, and we slowly lost touch. Then some weeks ago I get a message from a mutual acquaintance, saying that he died. He was my first friend. For some time he was my only friend. Now he's nothing at all... I am full on ugly crying after listening to this song.

If he were truly gone you wouldn't be crying at all. Lyrics. There are loved ones in the glory, Whose dear forms you often miss; When you close your earthly story, Will you join them in their bliss? Chorus: Will the circle be unbroken By and by, by and by? Is a better home awaiting In the sky, in the sky? In the joyous days of childhood, Oft they told of wondrous love, Pointed to the dying Saviour; Now they dwell with Him above. Will the circle be unbroken By and by, by and by? Is a better home awaiting In the sky, in the sky? You remember songs of heaven Which you sang with childish voice, Do you love the hymns they taught you, Or are songs of earth your choice? Will the circle be unbroken By and by, by and by? Is a better home awaiting In the sky, in the sky? You can picture happy gath'rings 'Round the fireside long ago, And you think of tearful partings, When they left you here below. Will the circle be unbroken By and by, by and by? Is a better home awaiting In the sky, in the sky? One by one their seats were emptied, And one by one they went away; Now the family is parted, Will it be complete one day? Will the circle be unbroken By and by, by and by? Is a better home awaiting In the sky, in the sky?

This game is more than just a game, like other's said and are saying, it can change one's perspective about life. First time I played it, I played for 14 hours straight and finished it all from start to finish, got up on that morning, and I had no idea what I was about to experience. so yeah I played it all in one sitting till night. It already effected me. But the next morning is where it hit me in such deep places that no story/film/game has ever hit me before. And that was after I finished Burial At Sea Episode 1 and 2... Ofcourse Burial at Sea would have been NOTHING without playing Bioshock infinite itself. This game broke me and my heart. I was depressed for 3 weeks and couldn't properly play any other game. Also I couldn't watch any films because I've experienced something well better than any movie could do. after those 3 weeks I was still a bit depressed, but atleast I could continue on with my ordinary life. I still was thinking and remembering this game from time to time. and after 3 months I finished it the first time... I went ahead and played it again. It still hit me in the feel's even after playing it once. And I was depressed for a week after playing this game the second time. I don't think I'll want to play it the third time, it may ruin me... This game is BRILLIANT! Thanks to whoever actually read all of this.

I finished it in two days and was AMAZED!! Easily one of the best games I have ever played! I only had about two weeks of depression but in those weeks I could barely think straight, let alone play another game. I am finally getting over it but I still think about it 10-15 times a day. I think what really did the game for me was Elizabeth. I was nearly brought to tears so many times because of her and it takes so much to bring me to tears. Only other games that have were The Last Of Us and Telltales The Walking Dead.

@Gentamoru10 жыл бұрын
Yeah the only thing i haven't played is Burial At The Sea, but i already finished Bioshock Infinite.
@LoadingCheckpoint10 жыл бұрын
Cool. SPOILERS BELOW: Elizabeth's heart is breaking because she can see all possible timelines and knows that, no matter what happens, her father (Booker) will never be happy. They will never have a safe and happy life together, father and daughter, because their story is always fated to end in tragedy. By the time the credits roll, the Booker we have followed is dead -- presumably resetting the timeline to a point where Elizabeth never existed. But because of her newfound abilities -- or perhaps merely in a different reality -- you can hypothesize that at least one version of her has managed to keep existing. (A small spoiler: it's one such version of Elizabeth you see in Burial At Sea.) And that version is distraught because she and Booker can never live happily ever after, as father and daughter or in any other capacity. TL;DR: Elizabeth is sad because the story of Booker and Elizabeth will always end in tragedy. And it breaks my heart.

The Bioshock cover is of the complete original lyrics to the 1907 "Will the Circle Be Unbroken." This hymn version of the song is rarely covered by artists because most prefer the Carter Family version or the Johnny Cash versions which don't question an afterlife while the hymn is actually questioning the existence of an afterlife. The original version which Bioshock covers asks the listener "Is a better home awaiting...?" Which is highly unusual for a hymn as while it earnestly pays homage to the beauty of a Christian life, it fully admits the uncertainty of the end results in that "undiscovered country from whose bourn No traveler returns (Shakespeare)." The later versions say "There IS a better home awaiting..."

I just finished like two hours ago and the ending... as majority hit me hard, really teared me down and I don’t know if I’m going to be the same person after this game, I’m not saying it in a bad way, I think this game shows us that there’s a possibility of other world where thing that we even think about are happening, something bigger than you and that is good I believe. The ending is really heartbreaking, I can’t remember when I experienced this feeling last time, this feeling that only a great piece of art, a masterpiece, can give you. I feel like in a bottle now, with only my eyes outside, I don’t know if I’ll get satisfied by another game ever. This game could change your life. For me, there’s a before and after Bioshock Infinite. Certainly it’s a shock It’s 2020 and I don’t know if anyone else will read this or even listen to this music. But as an art admirer, this game really makes me think why video games should be art. There’s nothing compared to Bioshock Infinite.

For anyone upset they hadn’t got enough time to properly spend time together as family, the thing is the entire journey _was_ precisely that, but that they hadn’t realised it What’s really sad is Booker didn’t struggle or fight back while he drowned as he was ready to die. And it wasn’t just because Comstock had to die, but because Dewitt had finally succeeded in bringing her back and was already content with the moments they had in their shared journey together as family even if they didn’t know it

I recently went to my grandmothers funeral where they played the bluegrass version to this, which was one of her favorite songs, during the service. Being a huge fan of bio shock, I showed this version to my family and no one, my self included, had dry eyes. I don’t think I can listen to this song without crying anymore; and strangely, that’s okay. One of my regrets was not being able to show her this emotional masterpiece. Thank you, game devs, for making such an amazing version to this song available.

It's funny how if you listen closely to the lyrics you can see how many lines in the song can be directly related to something which happens in the game itself.

The game has so many layers it's unreal. Even during the raffle when they're all singing Goodnight, Irene there are lines that foreshadow the plot. Sometimes I live in the country Sometimes I live in town Sometimes I get a great notion (To jump in the river and drown.) And also this these lines: (Stop your rambling) (Stop your gambling) (Go home to your wife and family) And sit by the fireside bright.

Elizabeth lived in a tower for 20 years. She was a hopeful girl who kept dreaming about outside world and adventures waiting for her. As she learned about herself and her responsibilities, the joy in her faded away. Booker sold his daughter in a moment of despair. He sat in his room with regret and sorrow for 20 years. As he crosses between realities, his memories faded away. His daughter was right in front of his eyes and he couldn't even see. He couln't have a moment with his daughter while he had chance. As his memories starts to coming back he needed to die for able to kill the guy who seperate Booker and his daughter, which was himself.

@danr.501710 жыл бұрын
Rodger Ebert did admit in one of his later blogs that his opinion was made out of ignorance of the medium. His love was cinema and he never wished to spend much time outside of it. I'm sure he would have loved the story Bioshock infinite told, but I can also assure you that the ultra violent gameplay used to makes its point would have turned him off on a very base level. The Funny thing is that Bioshock is a game that is one of the very few that would make a perfect cinematic adaptation.

***** I don't think the violence would have turned him off, the fact that Infinite is a video game would have. He did love Martin Scorsese's movies like Goodfellas, violence didn't bother him. Video games weren't his thing and that's understandable. But I'm sure he would have loved the story of the game.
@TheRinzl2r10 жыл бұрын
***** I don't see why people say the violence detracts from the gist of the game. I think it's interesting how Elizabeth is stuck in the middle of a cruel, vicious world, and how she responds to it. It's a great juxtaposition - by putting them next to each other, it makes Columbia seem even crueler and Liz even more innocent. Up till she kills Fitzroy, of course.

Did anybody else assume that "AD" means Anna Dewitt? It seems to make sense. The time screwed-uppiness wasn't apparent to Booker, but upon revisiting the past, he carved her initials into his hand to not forget her. Though he does again, the paradox circles back, and he finds Anna again. This is just a theory, but if this is what the makers intended for us to assume then this is very tragic, but at the same time inspiring.

Brilliant game, still hurts that Ken Levine closed Irrational down and wont be heading Bioshock games anymore

You think that Ken would've killed Elizabeth off if he thought that the company would be sticking around? Personally, I think that Ken couldn't stand the thought of anyone else having rights to the character he created and described as his "daughter". Now what's the best way to ensure that no other company can use your character? Kill them off. That's just what I think though.

End me i’d heard that he got *really* into this game’s production, but the way you say that changes the whole game. this man put so much into it, and people everywhere got so much out of it.

This song, for real. It feels like I lost a daughter. (Flashback for Elizabeths moments)

i am so lucky for going through this game 100% blindly. just one day im strolling around the mall and pass a small game store, seeing Elizabeth on the cover by the window and i thought "she's beautiful".. and i bought it. and... my heart is shattered for weeks
