At long last, here it is: our BioShock Infinite REVIEW! Adam Sessler Reviews this alternate history rollercoaster and comes away feeling like it does things he "just hasn't seen before" in a video game. Enjoy!

it is a bad game because the story is a cheap Dues Ex Machina stunt which mean it doesnt have any depth. Using a simple logic you will realized that the whole ending is pointless, nonsense BS that will never work as what the game is trying to suggest Gameplay is mediocre at best... played much better FPS

I don't know where youre getting the idea that people "hate" this game. Bioshock 1 remains to this game one of my all time favourites, and the problem with this game, I had and so did many others, is that, is was just sorta a dissappointment compared to the first, which I assume you haven't played.

Literally White Man's Burden the game set to a steamrolling Deus Ex Machina plot device and corridor shooting simulation . Shit story, plotholes out the ass to the point that the characters look to be making senseless decisions , obnoxious main characters unless you really really like fanfiction.net or are really really from the suburbs, Linear progression, less customization and depth than the prior games and a stupid ending made even more stupid with even worse DLC episodes.

Dan S No, it's not. All stories have flaws, and it doesn't need to be "realistic", simply believable, which it is. All stories (video games, movies, books) require the audience/player to *suspend their disbelief*, and as long as it's not too ridiculous, then it should be fine. It is not offensive nor does it insult our intelligence. Even the best sci-fi stories (like Star Trek) have flaws, but it's ok as long as it *works as a story*. This is why even things that are "based on a true story" need to have certain things changed (more action, romance, etc), because even realistic events need to be adapted to work as a story. Personally, Bioshock:Infinite is a dark fairy tale that felt to me like a mix of Inception and Donnie Darko, but somehow more satisfying. (The gameplay made me feel like a hero in a Tarantino movie.) Do those movies have flaws? Absolutely. But, like Infinite's story, it doesn't matter because it *works*. That's just how I feel, anyway.

Years later and this review rings incredibly hollow, mostly because with the benefit of some time and distance from the hyped release we've been able to point out not only the ridiculous plot holes, but the half-assed philosophy behind the themes presented throughout the game and how they overlapped in confusing and nonsensical ways. This review reads like someone who only went surface deep with the ideas in the game, ended up being super impressed, but never explored them. That said, I was also impressed with the game at a surface level when I first booted it up. It just never went deeper and instead devolved into complete confusion.

The ending made me both cry and laugh at the same time. Never has a video game achieved such a high degree of story tellling. Well, to be fair the ending was pretty confusing but some people managed to stop scratching their heads and catch onto the satisfying conclusion of a beautiful and dark tale. Both the gameplay and the story was good, so this is hands down one of the best games I've played in my life.

I share a similar opinion. Been playing videogames since childhood in the 90s, and played the entire BioShock trilogy recently, and didn't understood all the hate this game received. It's not the "best game of all time" like many people said, but it's definitely among the best ever made. I dare to say that it's even better than the original BioShock in basically all aspects.

***** Firstly, both games are more than 10 hours long. Secondly, who said these games are "defining games of the generation"? I didn't. People call Last of Us the "game of a generation" which I find silly. Did I say anything similar about Bioshock:Infinite? Nope. Thirdly, Infinite does have replay value. Quite a lot, actually. If you like a game as much as I like Infinite, then you're going to replay it a lot. Lastly, do you honestly think "a story and atmosphere" is something that's *easy* to create? If so, then maybe you're the one who needs to play more video games. As far as I can tell, fans of Bioshock:Infinite are gamers who've been playing video games their whole life. Like me.

This is my favorite game review of all time. Been a big Sessler fan since X-Play on TechTV. I went through Bioshock Infinite in 3 days because I got it day one on Game Fly for PS3 and I had to leave town 4 days after I got it for my Grandads funeral, which I consider one of the worst weeks of my life by the by. It is one of my favorite game for may reasons but beyond that it has a special connection with me. A couple years after all of this, Bioshock Infinite was the game that got my ex, we where together at the time, into gaming. She never cared for when I played games but I never made a fuss about it because she knew I loved it and I never prioritized gaming over her or what I needed to get done professionally/socially. I sat her down at my computer and had her play BSI and she fell in love. I remember getting the DLC's and she gave me a deadline of how long I had to beat it before she overwrote my save and played it herself. Ken and team made an amazing game and I will continue to use it as an example of what interactive storytelling should be.

You gotta fix the teleprompter/video positioning. I feel like Adam isn't telling me about this game, but reading to me it. If his eyes were more centered on camera, I fell like this would have a stronger effect on the audience. That being said, Adam you have been amazing since the early days of x-play to me! You are one of the few reviewers that approach games as an art form. Keep it up!

I was as hooked as I've ever been on a game the first time I played this. I heard plenty of backlash after the fact, and wanted to play it again to see if I was riding on hype. Well, while it's not perfect [what is...] playing it again just made me love it even more. The characterization is fabulous, the combat is exhilarating, the world is gorgeous and intriguing, and the story was fascinating, and has resonated with me the more I think about it. Anyway, I've read several critiques; some fair, some lousy, but the common angle I've seen people get upset about is race issue. There's a lot of things to be said about that, but I'll sum up my position simply. Racism is just one of many heavy themes tossed into Infinite, along with classism, patriotism, faith, etc. None of these get a lot of focus in the narrative, but it's because the story's not about any of those. It's about Booker and Elizabeth. All those issues are present in the world, but the focus of the narrative is on these two, and their journey in which they witness these atrocities. Since we play as Booker, we witness what he witnesses, and since he doesn't tell you [the player] exactly what he thinks on what's going, we get to fill that gap. In layman's terms, the reason the game doesn't editorialize race and such is because the game assumes you're smart enough to just witness it and come to your own damn conclusions. Also, Ken Levine's flat out said it wasn't his intent to comment on race, and since a lot of the backlash seems focused on Infinite's failure to offer said commentary, I say that's like criticizing someone for making a lousy cake when they were trying [and succeeded] in baking a pie. You may prefer cake to pie, but it's foolish to blame the chef for what you wanted him to make, instead of what he wanted to make.

I perfectly agree. Some people got really upset that BS:I brought the notion of racism and slavery, while it actually depicts Columbia as a false paradise. The Vox rebelled, Daisy died. It showed in that regard that blind hates makes you as bad a person, whether you come from high-up or down-low (refering to Daisy trying to kill Fink's kid). Although I could be wrong. I've heard the DLCs explain quite a lot on the side, and I've yet to play them :)

BioShock Infinite has an immense amount of charm until you are forced to murder an entire city of civilians for the sake of "gameplay". So far, each shooting section is like, " not this again, why are all these people going crazy trying to kill me? Oh well, I guess it's more fun to tear their faces off with this gadget I've got than try to reason with anyone". Bah, this game is Doom with a story drizzled on top and a coat of 7th gen enamel. Its just that the objects in this virtual shooting gallery don't make much sense as enemies.

So in short it's a brilliant masterpiece which yea it so totally is. I can see why the ending is so controversial but I never even saw it coming and you can't deny how brilliantly this game tells its story but still leaves plenty for the player to discover on their own. I know we get a lot of remasters and such but I really wanna see a remaster of this, or just include the other two games with it because it's a such a masterpiece and I wouldn't mind playing again on PS4. I know, I can just play it again on PS3 if I want but it's a game worth having on PS4 & XB1. I mean hell they remade GOW III and it really didn't need an HD remaster so I see no reason Infinite shouldn't get one.

Most accurate review of how I experienced the game. Never before have I been so intrigued and emotionally bonded with fictional characters, like I did in Bioshock infinite. Ever since I played through it, it has never truly let go of me. Something which I have never before encountered in a video game and certainly never expected to experience in a First Person Shooter.

You forgot about the Tear system that provides you with cover or traps depending on what you want. And the skylines that allow you to shoot while on the run, skydive enemies, move to a different perch, or lure Handymen into exposing themselves. And the Vigors that allow you to pull snipers to you (Insead of sniping them back) or Charge hordes of enemies directly. If you went through doing just the shooting, it's not that the game is stupid, it's that you aren't creative.

Upon finishing Bioshock Infinite, the player is left in speechless, breathless, awe. And, of course, you're left to ponder what the game is about. Is it about a man who will go to extreme lengths to rectify his past? Is it about a man who wants nothing but to secure a future for a world he so passionately created and will do anything to do so? One could also argue it's about a brilliant Physicist: a master of spacetime and quantum mechanics who has opened up a can of worms and tries to bring it all back to normal. Or is there something more? Is it a story of mankind's sad fate: we are all birds with free will as our flight. We all try so desperately to alter our past and to craft our future, but we are trapped in a cage: this fixed position in spacetime that we call the present. And if we were to break free, to emerge from our cage, we would realize that we could never really fly, for everything that has been, everything that is, and everything to come... already is... already was.

Some 'supposed inconsistencies: 1)24:42 A superficially bandaged hand would be more visible and looks even more suspect. Don't you think Comstock instructed his people to look for this kind of concealment? 2)24:55 The Lutece did not explicitly say what number 77 means and receiving a note from an unknown person in a flying city in the sky is already too bewildering to actually concentrate on this particular detail. You don't actually know what's going on until you pick the ball.

Stay with me on this one. It's going to be a long reply: 1) 17:46 Booker is not sent into the future. The tear brings him to an alternate reality, in a different point in time that's true, where a Booker from an infinite sea of possible Bookers failed to save Elizabeth. This future timeline has nothing to do with the previous timeline where Songbird managed to kidnap Liz. We don't even know if the timeline you're sent back to coincides with the timeline from which you were abducted by Old Liz.

I have extremely mixed feelings on Infinite. On one hand, the art direction is beautiful and its scope is astounding. On the other, the entire game feels like... a facade. Racism is shown, but never more than a glance at the surface - the story is "complex," but the motives are questionable. And the worst offender at all is that the gameplay doesn't mesh with the tale it is telling.

Sage Water Dragon I felt that Bioshock:Infinite did more than enough. You know, just because "12 Years A Slave" is supposed to be a perfect movie, doesn't mean I can't enjoy Django Unchained. I'm not expecting a historical documentary. *sigh* I don't want to watch Matthew's "critique", due to how rude his fans can be. I've seen them on tons of reviews telling others that some critic (Jim Sterling, Yahtzee, ProJared, etc) is "wrong", and Matthew is "right". For example, if I go to watch Yahtzee's review, I'm there for Yahtzee's review. I'd rather discuss his opinions than some other critics', whom I've never even heard of.

Exactly! In previous Bioshock games, it sort of created a mysterious element to the main character. Looting, which was much more necessary in Bioshock 1 and 2, would be much easier from a first person perspective. However, in Bioshock: Infinite, you know exactly who Booker Dewitt is, and due to the story elements and gameplay, the first person doesn't add anything at all. The only reason it's an FPS is because THAT'S WHAT SELLS.

It was just okay. It wasn't as good as the first and the story has been done to death. Did you know racism is bad? I didn't until a video game told me so. I find it funny that it was bad for the vox leader to kill certain people, but it is okay for you to pretty much anyone. The game makes you stop many different times to look at what the writer of the story has to say. Oh thanks, I wasn't playing a game or anything, please tell me what you are thinking using 14 letter words every 2 seconds. Remember it is smarter if you can't understand the words and if you complain you are just dumb. The gameplay is above average at best. Shooting is basic and vigors are almost useless expect for a select few.

You illustrate your own lack of appreciation for writing and art with comments like this, and frankly make you look like uneducated brat. lum0s It's almost like we have personal preference or something. Fair enough, using a larger vocabulary is the games style. However the story itself really isn't as mind blowing as people say it is, and the gameplay is Call of Duty. That is what I am saying. The ending makes no sense. Why drowned Booker if there are infinite universes with Comstock in them anyway!? It's style is great but people seem to replace the style of the game with the story. Sure it is using big words but if those words do not have any value beyond their style then they are just big words. It's not that I didn't understand what the people in the game were saying, it's that fact that what the people were saying was unnecessary passed its style. Game wise it was alright, I enjoy Call of Duty games, this had a lot more substance in its campaign mode then a COD game, but it is just okay in my eyes. There I calmly explained why I did not personally like this game, and why I do not get why people love the story so much. Good?

***** I found there to be a lot of replay value. Mostly for the purpose of the story, though. Playing through again you notice all the little details that line up with the ending. Like the audio log where Lutece talks about a piece of Elizabeth remaining from where she came, and that being an explanation for the powers. You only understand little details like that after having played through it once. As for repeating the gameplay, I actually found it to stay very exciting. That might be partly due to the fact that I haven't played a lot of shooters before, though.

***** Well it took me about twelve hours to finish the game and when I finished it, I actually immediately wanted to go through it again to get the things I missed and see everything with a new understanding in a similar vein to playing Bioshock 1 after learning about WYK. I myself enjoy weapon wheels and being able to carry a complete arsenal but in the case of Infinite, I honestly feel it would have weakened the gameplay but the weapon wheel was most welcome in the DLC. The vigors thing is a valid point though they pretty much do all the things plasmids from Bioshock 1 did outside of the security bulls-eye which would be pretty useless in Infinite and the decoy plasmid which instead came in the form of an admittedly underused tear. I suppose I would agree with you on the story complaints had the game just introduced them out of nowhere without any buildup and used it ineffectively but in this case, I feel it was rather well done and is clearly prevalent through almost the entirety of the game. All this being said, you are certainly entitled to your opinion and you do have a right to judge what is worth $60 to yourself which kind of makes me think of Ign's review of Alien: Isolation...
