I am thankful my red tail hawks cooperate with me! They just pose! I swear, they're camera hawks. I don't understand WHY, but at least one hawk bonds with me each year. I do photograph them from birth, so one seems to imprint on me, somewhat and when he sees my car he will fly to me and lands close enough for me to photograph him. He also comes from wherever he is when I call his name. This year, it was MAVERICK. I was blessed to get some very special captures of him. I love this video! Thank you for sharing. NAMASTE 🙏

Absolutely heartwarming video Paul, and the perfect choice of accompanying music too! I`m full of envy for your location and subjects. Interestingly, I noticed you both hand held big lenses, how did you overcome shake/vibration when using them? I struggle with a 200mm telephoto!
@photogenius
@photogenius Жыл бұрын
Many thanks Steve, I'm glad you enjoyed this weeks video. Greg used a monopod a few times to help with stability. I would normally do the same but found that a combination of the lens VR (vibration reduction) and the cameras IBIS (in body image stabilisation) was enough for me on this occasion.

Awesome ill bet that was a fantastic day . I have to say this but you get the people that say "Oh the camera does not make much difference" But each camera seems to have its own kinda personality almost and one camera just takes different methods to get results you like and the next camera might just nail it right off. I just love seeing how each camera system shines a bit different then the next. Options and variety is what keeps many of us excited and trying different things we might not have done before. You might have been upset over a couple of those shots but ill bet one more day out doing it and you would have warmed up to how the gear worked best for that situation and you would have nailed it :). I am not a big fan of Canon gear but that canon setup seemed to work very well for wildlife work.
@photogenius
@photogenius Жыл бұрын
Thanks Jennifer, the Canon Auto Focus is absolutely amazing, and better than the Z6 I was using - having said that, I was really pleased with the images I got on the day and I'm confident I could have nailed a few more, but I'm also having to think about the (video) cameras you don't see... there's a lot going on behind the scenes. A great day and thank you for watching.

WOW absolutely fantastic and I want to use my 2 week old R10 for wildlife, so I'm really excited about using the video, but draining and re charging the battery is a slight problem. I know that the camera comes with a battery housing for charging, but I have a Anchor power block for charging and I've tried connecting it straight to the camera C port so that I can keep the battery charged whilst out, but it's not charging. Apart from purchasing spare batteries can you suggest why the Anchor power pack is not charging the battery please, do I need a certain strength power USB to C cable. it charges my Iphone and ear pods excellently. Many thanks in advance for your priceless knowledge

Thanks for the feedback. I do feel that displaying the camera settings as well as crediting who shot the image can be distracting from the image itself. Canon gives better image quality but it's also more expensive. In the end it's not the quality that counts. Important is what the picture is telling. Hasselblad or Leika would also outperform any Canon camera but a boring picture is a boring picture. Better gear doesn't change that. Get whats most accessible to you. For me it was a Canon and i never regreted that.

I shot with the Nikon 200-500 mm for a long time until I discovered the 28-300 mm lens. Combined with a D850. I have increased my successful captures two fold. It has proven faster and more maneuverable for me, with far less missed shots. Just my opinion for what it's worth.

@@photogenius Thank you for your reply! I found this particular lens to be more compatible with my old D3200. Much sharper images with the DX format. Great video BUT: 1, it was staged (I mean the birds) - usually there is no looking first and capturing it the second time, unless You are willing to revisit the place over and over (which You will definitely do with bird photography). 2, the gear used here is very expensive I love to shoot birds and it is so much harder with a D3500 (no fancy eye-AF and low FPS) and a slow 70-300 (F6.3 at 300mm) Nikon DX lens, so it is more of a spray and pray to get one good shot. The birds were beautiful and the video was nicely done - the audio issue at the beginning.
@photogenius
@photogenius Жыл бұрын
Using a bird handler meant we had "birds on demand" available to shoot (and re-shoot if required), but it still took around 4 hours to capture all the stills and video footage, set up gear, walk to locations etc. Making videos is a lot of work and very time consuming (4 hours of shooting and 4 days of editing for a 10 minute video). Shooting with a D3500 and a 70-300mm lens will of course be challenging, but also a lot of fun - the experience itself being worth as much as the actual images captured. Thanks for watching, appreciate all feedback.

well guys is very convenient to have some control settings in the scenery like having birds that have been in captivity, is like going into the zoo but with a wider scenario. I have been in Indianapolis Zoo and have some nice shots of a Red Panda (in captivity). Pseudo Wildlife Photography. It's much easier than just trying the real deal where the time to think and compose the image is extremely short, because in a blink of an eye the shot is not there anymore.
