All your photos are well laid out and educational. Even though I have been photographing birds for years now here in south Texas, I always learn something new and I have incorporated them into my field photography and my editing process. I have just gotten the new Canon R7 (previous and still owned cameras: 7D Mark 2, 5D Mark 4, and R5). I am presently shooting with the Sigma 150-600 and based on your recommendations, I am presently saving for the Canon 100-500 RF lens. Thanks again and I look forward to more bird photography adventures and learning tips!

Like your KZfaqs. Live in South Central Texas. Similar climate, but no kangaroos. Am shooting birds using R6 with RF800f8, RF100-500 , RF 1.4 extender. Had similar issue with a card that had been used with the R6 and with a RP. Canon Pro-Rep recommended to never use cards between different Canon models without using this formatting procedure:. Format cards with your COMPUTER then format card with the CAMERA you plan to use. That should clean up your cards.

Sitting here in cold Wisconsin January (2022), admiring Victoria wildlife. Maybe I will head to WI river soon for eagles, they love the free water below dam once all lakes are frozen. I have a canon 500 mm and 1.4 telex for my 7dmarkII, working on convincing myself to spend $2500 on an r6. Love Victoria and the rest of Australia I;'ve visitied (not enough), love the wildlife, even enjoy the accent mate! Have a cabin on a lake up north with Kingfishers, maybe I need to spend some time concentrating on them, they are cool beyond measure.

Thanks for the comment, yes it can get bloody hot down here as you know, sounds like you have a great kit and plenty of reach with the 7D. I would hold on the R6 until we know what is happening with the R7, if they do release an APSC RF mount mirrorless it could be perfect for your needs. Have fun with the eagles and kingfishers. Gday John, my pleasure, if I am not doing too much walking the boots are fine. They seem to breath fairly well and are very comfortable for gumboots. Great video, really enjoyed! I got my first camera a few weeks ago and im on a budget so I got the Nikon P1000. The image quality is acceptable but there isn't much room to crop with 16MP, but it makes up for it in zoom, it does make it hard having to frame then and there knowing your not going to crop, but its so much fun. I loved this video. Wonderful images and you are a gifted story teller. What is so enjoyable is that it is a realistic "day in the life" presentation of any wildlife photographer. A bit of luck is helpful, but a measure of effort, patience and skill is absolutely required. It so reassuring to realize someone else is having game not show up and gear malfunctioning, all while sitting quietly in camo at daybreak needing to answer the call of nature.

Just noticed this video Duade - enjoyed the technical content as well as your enthusiasm for your work. I was struck by your use of the R6 mechanical shutter when a completely silent electronic shutter is available. The birds didn't seem affected by the noise (further away from your mic I guess) but I wondered why, if you have a chance to comment.
@Duade
@Duade Жыл бұрын
Thanks David, apologies for the delay, it just popped up now. To be honest it was purely because I preferred the sound of the shutter at the time as the camera was very new and I found the silence off putting. I am used to the silence now but appreciate the audible shutter option on the R7. Cheers, Duade

Hi Duade, great video, thank you, that eye detect focus looks amazing! I haven't read thru all comments, but I did have issues with Sandisk cards I bought from E.Bay. They were duds-showed error message occasionally, got them tested and the capacity and write speeds were a fraction of what was specified. Got a refund from E.bay after some back and forth messaging to the seller. You can do the check on your home p.c. Its possible that your card has low write speed an is buffering. Buy local from trusted source, even though likely to be 3 x price.

Again a very nice video, thanks for that. I use also Lexar cards, ( 64Mb 1667x V60 II professional) sometimes the camera locks up, but I do no think it is the cards. I have the camera now about 6 months and used it a lot, nearly every day. I think I did have about 5 lock ups in that time. I shoot mainly electronic high speed, and short bursts. Last months I use Fv and after some learning time I am used to it and like it, an advantage is that video is only two clicks away!

Bloody fantastic, m8!... love the setups. Miss Aussie bird life... especially the lorikeets in the grevillea and black palm cockies... kookaburras are good too when they hear a good joke. But best memories are the Morning wake up call of Aussie Magpies. Thanks for the memories. I went walkabout and ended up in SoCal USA.

Thanks I like you videos. I've been doing mostly woodland wild life photography. I have been focused mainly on three squirrel variants, a normal brown(not tech. name), White Morph squirrels and what seems to be the elusive Black squirrel. The few shots I've gotten of the Black Morph is it has been difficult to get detail, which I take as the issue of great distance I've snapped at. I've been experimenting with over exposure. On my 6d I am often at 2500-5000 iso at 400mm with 1/320-1/400 shutter. Is use use a 100-400 and sometimes x1.4, where I lose auto focus at first. Not a big thing, when the Black squirrel sits very still vertically on the side of a tree. I use an FD 400/2.8 with a t90, that's another thing. Been looking at upping my EOS lens to a 400mm(f4 or f2.8 $$$) to use with my digital and my A2e EOS. Or goto a r6 for improved ev or auto focus to f11 if I got that right. This is alot to unpack. Either a 400mm EOS lense, or a New R6 and my existing 100-400 x1.4/x2.0? Thoughts?
@Duade
@Duade 3 жыл бұрын
Brent, the R6 should work well with the 100-400, I have taken nice shots with my EF400 5.6 and a 1.4ext v3. I usually have to use f10 or 11 for the sharpest shots but the R6 allows ISO up to 12800 without too many noise problems. I did have the pleasure of trying the RF100-500 and that is a beautiful lens also. Good luck, Cheers, Duade

The R6 rocks. When posted online or upscaled using photoshop for printing the photos look just good as compared to the R5 . The only disadvantage is when you heavily crop but still most of the time it is acceptable. The R5s (rumored 90 megapixel) and the R7 (rumored APS-C 32 megapixel) coming this year would be more suitable for wildlife but overall the R6 is still really good most of the time and I have no regrets buying it.

Thanks Duade what a marvelous video, I really appreciated it. I am amazed at how the camera can track the eye. I love Sacred Kingfishers, they are lovely little creatures. Full marks for perseverance on a hot day. That is one of the things we have to cope with in Australia. That and the strong light which can be both a negative and a positive.

I shoot Lexar 128 (1667x) cards in my R6 bodies. I've never had a problem with them locking up. But I always format the cards at the beginning of each shoot - and I never delete a file off the card until the next time it gets formatted. The prevents file fragmentation. Most of the time when a card gets corrupted, it is due to fragmentation.
@Duade
@Duade 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott, I do the same, format in camera and I don't delete on the back of the camera. I think I just got a faulty card. Cheers, Duade

Hi Duade. This is my second time of watching this video. Watched it when first posted, then thinking about it I realised that I should have complimented on a little nuance of yours. Really good feature (for me) is the showing the original RAW file and then the fading in of the processed file. 👍 How far did you have to carry those buckets of water? Be careful, you don't want arms like an Orangutan. lol
@Duade
@Duade 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Roger, I appreciate you watching the video again, yes the overlay on the RAW file is very popular and is a great learning tool. It isn't too far, probably 100m or so. Cheers, Duade
