It became a gathering of satirists that used their wit to comment on conspiratorial thinking as a whole. The Flerfers lost the joke (too early on) and it was a pointless convention of Dunning Kruger scale people who had no sense of critical thinking.

During one of the government shutdowns during Trump's term, people noticed a lack of birds and with the rise of popularity of air drones and increased awareness of government surveillance, joked that birds were drones. So the one's doing it are in on the joke. Only start to worry when those who aren't in on it are the majority

Interesting fact: The hearing range of humans is keyed to bird vocalizations, not necessarily other humans. Why? Some scientists have hypothesized that in the evolutionary scheme, where there is abundant bird life, humans can survive. Where birds can't survive, humans can't survive. Don't know if it's true, but it's interesting.
