After 30 years of birding, I just got a spotting scope, and it's opened my eyes to so many things I couldn't see before. I just visited Chincoteague NWR, but there was nowhere near the abundance of birdlife there as what's depicted in this video. Wow!

I think the narration missed talking about the balance and equilibrium of that ecosystem. Even though it looks like birds population is exploding, they really cannot exceed what the marshes can support for feeding them and housing them. Right at that limit larger predators play a role too in limiting the population. What is the greatest indicator of health of any ecosystem is not the numbers of individuals but the diversity of species that successfully can live and reproduce. It's a place where evolution is very active due to natural competition.
