Hey! In this piano tutorial I've created 5 piano exercises that will help you to develop hand independence, strength and stamina, whilst at the same time helping you to practice your chord inversions, broken chords and arpeggios! And they're actually fun to practice!
What's even better, is that if you learn them all, when combined they create one EPIC piano piece!
So they're piano exercises that sound good and are fun to play. What's not to like?
It uses a dramatic chord progression with a left hand pattern applied to the piano chords. Then the right hand piano parts build up methodically at each step. This is where you get to practise your piano chord inversions, broken chords and arpeggios, except the sound impressive to play over the left hand part. There's even some variation to the chord progression in the later stages with the help of diminished chords.
The first two exercises are suitable for beginners on piano, the third exercise is okay for beginners if they practice is sliwly first, and the last two piano exercises could be placed in the piano tutorial medium difficulty level.
Here are the timestamps for the different exercises:
Exercise 1 - 1:07
Exercise 2 - 7:13
Exercise 3 - 11:43
Exercise 4 - 17:25
Exercise 5 - 22:42
And to hear what they all sound like combined into one epic piano piece:
Epic Intentions Practice Piece - 27:23

I am a self taught piano player and during the learning process when I played chords I wanted to know why I was playing certain chords and notes. Being very mathematical I found music theory quite easy and if you gave me a chord progression I could play it in any key without reference. If you are a beginner player I believe the best thing you can do is learn chords in all their inversions. This video is absolutely brilliant for practising chords and inversions with a left hand pattern that works in every major and minor key. If you practice this routine and get it smooth then when your knowledge increases you will be able to use it in any key with any chord.....top job Arthur.....

Thanks for the kind words I’m glad you like the exercises. And yes I totally agree every beginner should learn about chords and inversions. So important, and they sound great when you apply patterns and arpeggios like these to them!

Another great exercise. I'm a big believer in practicing things that build skills but also sound like music. This has hints of classical, and cinema scores.

Great video! Although fingering is somewhat subjective, starting from measure 79, I find it easier and smoother using the RH fingering 1-3-1-2-3-1-3 ascending and continuing with 1-3-2 decending. I would imagine either way is fine. I enjoyed your tutorial and am now subscribed to your channel. Well done! Thanks! 😀

Uhh, this was too cool. I'll see you in a couple months. By the way, how do I get to Carnegie Hall? BTW it would be nice to slip in an Alberti Bass every once in a while for variety. I have tickets for a concert, and I don't know the way to the Hall.

Very helpful exercise indeed. Do you have any exercise for hand independence with syncopation, not using exact (4/8/16)th notes or using an ostinato in the left hand?

Sorry, but In measure 64 at 20:17, are the notes supposed to be sharps (#) or flats (b)? It’s really confusing. What chord is this supposed to be? Can you mix sharps and flats together? Thanks.
@BirdsPianoAcademy
@BirdsPianoAcademy 7 ай бұрын
Hi, the chord could be named either an Eb diminished, or a D# diminished, because an Eb and a D# are the same key on the piano. Sorry for the confusion!
