Freshman Year of college was definitely a wake-up call for people straight out of high school that’s for sure lol. My first year of college definitely taught me that procrastination is definitely a no-no 😂.

Thank you! This video really eased my nerves a little bit. I’ll be a freshman in about a week and I’ve been having second thoughts about majoring in computer science. I took some classes in high school that I did very well in but I’m honesty scared and nervous for the rigorous coursework. There’s so many videos online that are very discouraging but I want to stick with it. The reoccurring thought that I’m not smart enough is weighing down on me :/

@@bruhleaning9056 -- Fall semester was a mix of late nights reading documentation and debugging my logic. We mostly wrote console applications in C#. I took a web dev course that was pretty 'lax compared to the other courses in my schedule.

@@highinhvn -- I took Discrete Mathematics, Intro. Computer Science, Web Development, Utilitarian Ethics (Philosophy). I also had a physics and lab.

Im going to college in the fall as CS major without any previous experience. My parents are scared. I am hesitant. This helped relax me. I am currently taking an online class.

Im currently in highschool right now, a year before we graduate and Im taking computer science as my backup subject in case i didnt make it to medical school. I got a decent mark for comp sci about a C, nearly a B which I thought Im decent at comp sci. After quarantine hits for like 5 months, I forgot every little basic python and pseudocode and since we skipped the basics and proceeded the subject after 5 months of quarantine, I am the only student struggling and having to review back 5-7 months of basic notes on every question. Im crying I need help on my comp sci. The worst thing is I dont own ANY new exercise books for the entire extended lockdown so i wrote nothing for more than 5 months not knowing its affecting my grades ALOT. I would love to study and write notes but another issue comes from my family. My mom is the type who thinks house chores is more important than studying and nothing can change her mind till I move out which only happens AFTER high school. I prefer writing down on books and not on docs because I don’t absorb any information that way. School is starting in like 2 weeks and I havent get any job done because of family issued causing huge stress. My triple science and maths is also failing. Everything is failing but I dont want it to affect my future. Im currently writing this at 2am because I’ve seen your other videos and im sorry if this isnt related to the video. Sorry but im new here, is there any tips to learn back the basics ASAP before school starts? I really dont want to look like a bad student because i really want to pass all my subjects including comp sci

I''m sorry you're having to deal with family struggles and the effects of the pandemic :( In my opinion, CS is best learned online and not through textbooks! There are tons of free python courses on KZfaq (search "How to learn python" or "Free Python course for beginners") that could help you learn the basics. I put a few websites in the description box that also have free python courses. I know this is a really stressful time, but you can get through this!

Lol, I thought having some coding experience would help me in college. I actually got into a group which is normally known as the least stressful in programming, but surprise surprise the labs are easy, homework is awful (freshman and they already asked of us to implement WORDLE game using ncurses and C). I really don't think you should go to CS college if you don't feel sure on your coding skills, the pace in college is fast and can be quite intimidating and overwhelming.

I most definitely can't take (pre) Calc, let alone calc 3. which areas of CS are not as math heavy? Such as Cyber S, programming etc?

In general, CS is a pretty math heavy subject, but if you're interested in technology in general, studying IT is a great option!

CS classes aren’t just classes where u come in to class, listen and do homework. You need to make this a hobby and do it religiously in order to learn. I am going to school taking 4 classes while also working at a job for 32hrs a week. It is hard to learn and absorb the coding information if you’re not coding and practicing everyday.

Hmmm honestly, there weren't really specific KZfaq channels I would watch, but thenewboston had great videos on Python and 3Blue1Brown was excellent for help in my math classes!

Hey! Don’t get to stressed about the future! Focus on the CS classes your in now and see how you feel about the content. The job placement rate for CS majors is very high in comparison to other majors, so I would not worry about that yet!

My college (Kent State) doesn’t require calculus 3 nor calculus 2. We have to take brief calculus 2, which is less intense from full calculus 2, which math majors have to take

I disagree with not needing to code before starting. I felt so lost not knowing how to code. Almost everyone in my class already knew how to code when they started.

I think it just depends on how much work people are willing to put into trying. I had no coding experience when I started, was it a struggle? YES. There were a few classmates that would take two days to complete their projects while it took me almost a whole week to finish. Procrastinating for me was not an option. I just think that as long as you are disciplined and are ready to put in the work, not knowing how to code will not hold you back from doing well in your classes
