This is called blue-eyed soul. These guys were the best. Bobby Hatfield with his beautiful tenor voice & Bill Medley with his deeper voice. They were magic together. And remember this is done live. No auto-tuning crap like today. And the songs had meaningful beautiful lyrics. Other great songs by them are "Soul & Inspiration", "Just Once In My Life", "Ebb Tide", "Rock & Roll Heaven" etc.

Yeah hear you. We were there when these guys first hit the scene. Tell you what we didn't have stereo in our vehicles everything was on shitty AM but tell you what when this first came out I heard it in my car and had to pull over. Everly's atta Canada were on fire back then as well they got it all started along with Elvis. Big O as well. Tell you what Big O had some incredible range Hatfield and Gene Pitney reminded me of him. Weren't the days. Later on Steve Perry came along in the 70's and 80's. He''s the only singer I thought in these guy's league. 81 here too.

I completely agree with you about old music and music of today. Old music was actually about the music. The so-called music of today is more about costume changes and backup dancers and extravagant shows. Music comes secondary.

I told you this before, but this song was repopularized after it was used in "Top Gun", and the same for the other one you heard, "Unchained Melody", after being in the 90s movie "Ghost". So these tend to be the two songs by them that everyone knows. "Soul and Inspiration" is another good one. Bill Medley, the deep voiced one, also did a duet with Jennifer Warnes for a song specifically made for the soundtrack of the 80s movie "Dirty Dancing" called "I've Had The Time Of My Life", which became a big hit at the time. You should check out the song and the movie. There's actually so much good music in that movie that they released two soundtrack albums. Including a song sung by Patrick Swayze, the actor and star of that movie, called "She's Like The Wind", which I actually love.

I saw them sing this, "Unchained Melody," etc., live when I was just 12 years old. And I'm going to see the Righteous Brothers AGAIN next month, on their final tour! Bobby died in 2003, but Bill finally found "the only man who could take his place" (Bucky Heard) and they'll be performing together this Fall. No one will ever replace Bobby -- check out his solo on "Summertime" -- but Bucky comes the closest of anyone I've heard since. Which is why Bill picked him. Should be great!

This song was covered by Hall & Oates in the early '80s, and was featured in "Top Gun" in 1986. Bill Medley (the baritone) would go on to record "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" for "Dirty Dancing" in 1987 (there's one you should check out and react to).

Bisscute.... you commented about how loud the background sound was .... that was the work of producer Phil Spector ...he created the legendary 'wall of sound' to add fullness to a song. He was also husband to Ronnie Spector who was the lead singer of the group The Ronettes .... their hit song Be My Baby was also produced by Phil has that same 'wall of sound'. If you listen to that song you'll immediately identify it.
