Such an enjoyable movie, with one of the best ensemble casts ever assembled. If you liked this one, I highly recommend The Sting from 1973. It stars Paul Newman and Robert Redford and is set in the 1930's during the Great Depression. It also involves a group of con men pulling off a really big job, and it's one of the best movies ever made.

Checks are old school in America now. They were what people did before debit/credit cards. Instead of carrying thousands of dollars of cash, you would carry a checkbook, you want to buy something, you write out a check for the amount and give it to the seller, the seller then takes it to the bank and the bank takes the check and gives them the amount on it.

To add to that, if you boil it all the way down a check is a bearer bond as the person who the check is made out to is entitled to the money backing up the check. Writing a check when you don’t have the money to back it up is usually a crime, how serious of a crime depends on where you live. But in general it’s like spending cash but with receipts. I can write you a check for X dollars or I can hand you X dollars, but the check needs to go to the bank and be recorded before you get the money and the cash is just in your hand as soon as i give it to you.

@@tenlow2 It's basically a hold over from before credit cards were a thing. Once it got to the point were most people got credit cards, people stopped using checks so much. Plus, it became more and more common that people would write checks without the money to back them. With credit cards denying charges that weren't covered, businesses stopped taking checks as often. It's rare when a business will take a personal check nowadays.

Saul had to appear to be dying so he could distract the security guards who were watching all the vault monitors. That was so they could change the monitor watching the elevator where Matt Damon was and change it to a tape of an empty elevator. If the guards had seen the monitor instantly change from a guy in the elevator to an empty elevator, they would know something was up. So, the entire point was for Saul to cause the distraction just when they needed to switch the monitor tape on the elevator.

It's also an homage to the original Ocean's 11 movie were spoilers one of the characters dies of a heart attack during the heist.

So nice that you caught that Biss. Tess "He doesn't make me cry" - indicating that Danny Ocean did make her cry in their relationship. Now Danny did a huge score so he has millions, and suddenly him making her cry before, doesn't seem so bad to her. Most reactions that I have seen just ohh and ahh over her going back to him.

To give some elevation to the two older giants in this film: Saul is played by Carl Reiner, a game changing comedian. He started out as a writer with Mel Brooks, they created a long-running improv sketch between them called "The 2000 Year Old Man." Reiner later wrote and/or directed films as WHERE'S POPPA, THE JERK and THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS with Steve Martin, and SUMMER SCHOOL with Mark Harmon. He was also the father of writer/director Rob Reiner, who made THE PRINCESS BRIDE and WHEN HARRY MET SALLY. Carl passed away during Covid; the last thing he did was a homemade "remake" of THE PRINCESS BRIDE where he and his son reenacted the end of the movie; it was very touching. Reuben is played by Elliott Gould, who starred in some very influential films of the early '70s - M*A*S*H, GETTING STRAIGHT, THE LONG GOODBYE - and continues to be a reliable character actor today. He had a recurring role on the sitcom "FRIENDS" as Ross' father.

An American subtlety you probably missed: At the dog track when Rusty was recruiting Saul, he said "You're already in Coopers Town". That is where the MLB (baseball) Hall of Fame is located. Meaning Saul was already a world-class thief.

Absolutely unbelievable that the original was simply an excuse for Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack to spend a few weeks in Las Vegas at the expense of a Hollywood movie producer. This remake has to be one of the best heist movies of all time.

This was a Re-make from the 1960's movie "Oceans 11"... There's 2 more that are just as good, then there's an "Ocean's 11 with Magicians" called "Now you see me" There 2 of them with a third in Production. Then there's one with Ryan Reynolds called "6 Underground"... Your Summer of Action hasn't even begun yet! GREAT Reaction!

Not fun fact : in "Now you see Me", the scene where the girl is immersed in the water cage and seemingly drowns... well, she was actually drowning, the crew thought her acting was spot on! They got her out just in time, after 3 very long minutes for her.

The beginning and end shots were done at the Rahway State Prison in New Jersey. While in NJ you see Danny calling his Truant Officer and you see the sign for the Trump Plaza casino in Atlantic City. That is also where Danny goes up the escalator from the Boardwalk to meet Frank in that casino. That casino has since been demolished. FYI since Steve Wynn left Las Vegas, None of the casinos are owned by any one person. They are all owned by Corporations.

You look amazing Bis.....love the hair. There are others in this franchise. Knowing how you like vintage stuff then you might enjoy the original from 1960, it has a more serious feel to it and has some amazing acting by the old Rat Pack led by Frank Sinatra. My dad turned me onto it a few years back and i think its an awesome movie.

My favorite heist movie is Heat from 1995. It's rather long at almost 3 hours, but it has a stacked cast with Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Val Kilmer etc.

It was five Las Vegas casinos: the Sahara, the Riviera, the Desert Inn, the Sands, and the Flamingo. Cracked me up that the diagram of Ocean's plan was the placemat from a Las Vegas diner showing those casinos.

The main plot flaw is that OF COURSE Benedict would say "Sure, you can have her." It means NOTHING. He wants to hear what Danny has to say, etc. Benedict is under NO obligation to keep any promise to Ocean. And besides, it's up to HER who she wants to be with -- no anyone else.

Hopefully you could react to the complete trilogy Biss. For future reactions I recommend you Brad Pitt's movies: 13 Monkeys co-starring with Bruce Willis and Interview with the Vampire and I also suggest you a very nice film with Andy Garcia (the bad guy in ocean's eleven) called Black Rain with Michael Douglas I think you'll like it.

Recommendation: Last of the Mohicans made in 1992. About life on the frontier during the French and Indian War. Also, Sisu is an awesome Finish movie in English.

This movie is such a blast. The original (this is one of those rare good remakes) is also fun! I think the later films 12 and 13 are also solid. Hell I even like the all-female cast one. That said, what would make these better would be if the cast was *both* men and women. I know, **gasp** That is kind of the formula for these heist films and it works well, maybe a bit more believable. Nevertthless, good stupid fun! Great reaction Biss! You are one of my favorite reactors. Maybe favorite tbh.

This is one of my favorite movie series. The original with Frank Sinatra is great too. Also, Ocean showed Tess that her new boyfriend would trade her for a bunch of money. Are you saying that's not a dealbreaker?

Checks (Cheques) are like IOUs but backed by a bank or other financial institution. So, if someone writes you a check to pay for something, you can deposit that check in your bank account and be credited the money. There downfalls of course but that is basics.

Great movie!! 😁 Bernie Mac totally steals the show imo despite being surrounded by the Whos Who of Hollywood :) I have a older brother. Hollywood almost NEVER gets the "Brother" dynamic right in movies but in the Ocean's series the Mormon twins are PERFECT!!! 😂😂😂😂😂🤣😂🤣 "HAHA! BALLOON BOY!!!"

when Brad Pitt goes to pick up Clooney at the end when hhe gets released from jail, whenPitt takes a bite of the sandwich and pounds his chest and coughs . the actors liked to play pranks on each other and Clooney apperently put hot sauce on the sandwich. so when Pitt bit into it that was his real reaction to the sauce

I think cheques ("checks") are still used in America, although they're much rarer now. For a long while banks were transferring funds between each other by literally mailing each other cheques 🤦‍♂ I've always found it amazing that the US, a nation which is so often ahead of the curve, is like 30 years behind when it comes to financial technology. You often have to sign a receipt when paying there - chip and pin is only just becoming widespread, and contactless is barely off the ground.

They had the security staff carry the fake bags of money, which contained the flyers for hookers, to the van, but how did the flyers get into the vault?

This movie would have been SO much better if it didn't have Julia Roberts in it. I have seen only two movies with her in them that are really worth it: "Steel Magnolias" (1989) and "Erin Brockovich" (2000).

Such a fun movie, and a very "guy" experience. So many cool guys, just sort of hanging out. Is that the movie or the set BEHIND the movie? YES, yes it is. The sound track to this movie is as great as the dialogue. It just SOUND cool. There's an original Ocean's 11, with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, and a bunch of other stars from the 60s. Cool in a different way. I mean, it's only $29 million each, and that's before expenses. But I think they feel great because they were successful, and they were working with good friends.

checks are barely used in the US anymore actually but back in 2001 when this was made? Yeah still very much a thing. Most likely in Romania as well I suspect.
