Thank you Ian. I just found your channel, and now am going through your videos. Recently I got interested in starting a lighting node. I don’t have any technical knowledge. I can use hardware and software on base level. I can use and manage wallets and transfer funds. But this is pretty much everything what I can do for now .Can you recommend places where I can start learning and hopefully build knowledge for setting my own node? Thank you!

Hey Nestor - glad you're finding the content useful! I too started with no technical knowledge, so I promise it's possible with some time and effort :) Just take your time. It sounds like you may have already stumbled across my other videos, but this one will show you step-by-step how to build your own node: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qbFkq5aG0N6tXZ8.html Or if you prefer an even easier method (though more expensive), you could check this one out: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o9pnlq5ovteXqoE.html Other resources you should definitely take a look at include: -BTCSessions' tutorials on KZfaq -Jameson Lopp's resources: www.lopp.net/bitcoin-information/full-node.html -Bitcoiner Guide: bitcoiner.guide/node/ I hope these help!

The Bitcoin Lightning Network uses native satoshis - any asset that's packaged up to make it seem like you're "investing" in the Lightning Network is a scam unless I'm completely missing what it's supposed to do

Ian, awesome tutorial. This got me up and running. Question for you about LNbig... I paid them for inbound liquidity (10M sat channel). The channel opened up with a 3000ppm fee on their side. This seems very high to me. If liquidity were to flow over to my side of the channel, I would not be able to rebalance without taking a huge loss unless my fees were even higher. But with fees that high I’m not sure this channel will ever get use. Is 3000ppm normal for LNbig? I noticed their fee to you was 200ppm which seems more manageable. Is it just because my node is new?
@IanMajor
@IanMajor Жыл бұрын
I'm very glad to hear this was helpful! That is definitely a super high rate, and while node newness could be a factor I don't think it would explain the full difference or even the majority of it. I suspect more likely could be differences in demand - if LNBig has recently stepped up their pricing for new connections and the new connections keep coming, then perhaps they feel they can justify it. I'd recommend experimenting with other providers outlined here: plebnet.wiki/wiki/Getting_Inbound_Liquidity . I've been successful with Lightning Conductor (for free), and marketplaces like Amboss have come a long way and are becoming increasingly competitive.

@@IanMajor Yep, that makes total sense. For now I guess I'll just leave the channel open. It probably doesn't hurt, if anything helps my node rank due to the extra capacity. Thanks for that Plebnet link. I'm going down their list one by one. And thanks again for the tutorials - they've been super helpful. Would love to see one specifically on your strategies to keep liquidity moving through your channels profitably (ie. setting fees, rebalancing, finding the right mix of channels to open with, etc.). I haven't found too many videos out there that do a deeper dive on that topic.

I have a request for a new tutorial: could you show us how to set up and use Trezor One and Model T with Sparrow wallet?
@IanMajor
@IanMajor 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there - don't worry I saw your first post on this request 🙂 I'll definitely add this to the list, but for full transparency I'm not sure realistically when I'd circle back to do more Sparrow wallet tutorials. The good news is that Sparrow generally makes it quite easy to connect hardware wallets! In the case of Trezor, and per this note here (sparrowwallet.com/docs/faq.html#how-do-i-import-my-trezor) you'll likely need to select "Nested Segwit" as the script type when creating a new wallet in Sparrow and then after that choose the "Connected Hardware Wallet" option. Then you'll select "Scan" and it'll scan for your connected device. I suspect you'd then need Trezor Suite or similar to unlock the device so it can successfully import it to Sparrow. Hope this helps for the time being and thanks for making the suggestion!

can this be done on a windows pc with bitcoin core????
@IanMajor
@IanMajor 2 жыл бұрын
You'd still need a Lightning node which bitcoin core alone doesn't provide. In addition to Umbrel, there's also Raspiblitz and myNode which are all great options. I think you could technically get away with running all of that on a PC, but I wouldn't advise it especially if you're serious about running a routing Lightning node - if you're trying to do that, you'd at the very least want some dedicated hardware.

I have a Raspberry Pi but without a SSD. Can I run a BTC Lightning node on a windows computer?
@IanMajor
@IanMajor Жыл бұрын
It is indeed possible, though I will admit I don't have personal experience with that setup method. I'd suggest taking a look at Pierre Rochard's Node Launcher: medium.com/lightning-power-users/windows-macos-lightning-network-284bd5034340 (not sure how well this is updated, but the latest update in the linked github page is September 2021, not too bad) medium.com/lightning-power-users/easy-lightning-with-node-launcher-zap-488133edfbd Hope that helps!

I'm running on my windows pc, how can i add LN on it?
@IanMajor
@IanMajor 11 ай бұрын
As in run a Lightning node directly on your PC? I don't have experience with that, but I'd recommend checking out the following thread whose comments include some different options: www.reddit.com/r/lightningnetwork/comments/pm9em9/is_there_a_simple_windows_lightning_node_program/ Keep in mind this is (1) hard and (2) would require your PC to be online 24/7 and never asleep. That's why most folks will opt for an Umbrel node or some other node implementation (Raspiblitz is another) that abstracts away some of the complexity. I have a tutorial on how you can build an Umbrel node yourself if you decide that's a preferable option: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qbFkq5aG0N6tXZ8.html

Hi - I explain this starting at 23:47 I was having issues with LNBig that may well have been unrelated to their service, but ultimately I tried and succeeded with Lightning Conductor as an alternative service to get inbound capacity. Thor channels with Bitrefill would be another option as well.
