Bitcoin first began when a white paper titled “Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System” began to circulate on a cryptography mailing list.
The white paper was signed by an individual going by the pseudonym of Satoshi Nakamoto. And to this date, Nakamoto’s identity has still not been entirely confirmed.
In 2009, Satoshi Nakamoto “mined” the very first block on the Bitcoin blockchain and set into motion a series of events that would lead to the cryptocurrency’s current fame and status.
But I know what you might be thinking:
What even is Bitcoin? What is blockchain? What is “mining”? What is a cryptocurrency? Why was Bitcoin even created? Does Bitcoin even have any value? And how could this “Bitcoin” be worth tens of thousands of dollars? Is it all just a massive scam?
The debate surrounding Bitcoin is vast, and there’s no shortage of opinions on the subject. In this series we’ll attempt to dissect the history and motivations behind the cryptocurrency’s creation, as well as the big debate on the topic.
We’ll try to answer the question of whether Bitcoin truly is worth something, or whether the investments that have been put into Bitcoin are nothing but pure speculation.
In this first part we will also dive into the technicalities of what “blockchain technology” actually is, how it works, and why it’s so important.
If you’ve heard of an “NFT” then this will also be very important in understanding they are as well. NFT’s are also operating on “blockchain” technology.

This series isn’t going to focus too much on the investment side of Bitcoin - whilst that still plays a role in the story, we’re more focused on the motivations and the debate on the topic.
However, I do believe that by understanding WHAT you are investing in, you shape yourself up for a much better financial decision than just blindly following FOMO and potentially risking your hard-earned money.

Just do cypto transactions through an accredited platform/marketplace. I live in Indonesia and we have a government-backed crypto marketplace. I didn't have to worry about anything at all starting my crypto journey. Make sure you look into something along those lines :)

As a newbie about to invest, you must have these three things in mind 1. Have a long term mindset. 2. Be willing to take risk. 3. Be careful on money usage, if you're not spending to earn back, then stop spending. 4. Never claim to know - Ask questions and it's best you work with a financial advisor.

From my experience I could say that, in Mumbai the prices of the commodity varies quite a lot from places to places. If you're saying specifically about South Bombay area then, it's true. Prices over there is quite high. But that isn't true for the rest of the Mumbai. You could easily find any cheap shops in other parts of Mumbai.

I suggest you offset your crypto portfolio and get into stocks, as bad the bear market can be, provides good buying opportunities in the markets if you’re careful and it can also create volatility giving great short time buy and sell opportunities too. This is not financial advise.

When talking about Bitcoin, many talk about how it technically works, but to understand Bitcoin it is nessesery to understand that is is basically placing a bet against the state monetary system or against the central banks. Buying Bitcoin at it's core means that you think that the central banks money system will crash before Bitcoin crashes. There are good arguments that a Bitcoin will live longer than a Dollar, Euro, Yen, Pound or whatever, but there are also a lot of reasons against. In the end it is a bet NOT an investment!

Yup and many don't see that because they are bought in with MLM marketing tactics. Beying paid for spreading the word. Being paid for holding it, being paid for inviting/converting others. I guess religion would be even more spread if only it would promise enternal bliss if you convert as many friends as you can and make them become model zealots.

I agree with your assessment. Bitcoin's value is way too volatile to actually buy anything with it. The fact that China banned bitcoin mining and transactions is pretty big. There is logically no reason for Bitcoin to be increasing in value at this point.

I don't know whether bitcoin will outlive dollar, euro, or pound. But I do know that the dollar will outlive me. So I rather prefer dealing everything in dollars.

@@mudit7808 if you are 98 years old you are probably right, if not then you should think about it again. The USD in its roughly 100 years of existence lost over 99% of its purchasing power, at the same time a single country holds so many dollars that they can crash it completely at every given time and the USA (and the EU and UK and Japan) is so deep in debt that they can never ever repay. So if you don't expect to die within the next 5 years I would not bet on the USD.

@@wiebeplatt4749 Well, bitcoin's (and indeed all crypto) constant volatile state is mostly due to factors which include but not limited to: basic economic supply and demand, investor and user sentiments, government regulations across the countries that use crypto currencies, pump and dump practices and media hype. All of these work together to influence price volatility, which is why it's pertinent one (esp someone new) follows the guides of an experienced market pundit who already knows all the market maneuver. It betters your chance at maximum profit by more than 100%.

@@davidabner8885 In part yes, this one is just much, much worse. The US government does have fiat currency. But it also has been around for almost 250 years and collects taxes on over 300 million people to pay its debts. It also has military might, legislatures, courts, police, etc., to keep the system going. Laugh if you will, but you can argue all that is worth something. Bitcoin? It's fiat currency too but there is *nothing* behind it. Edit: Bitcoin could also get legislated out of existence by governments around the world. They could just make the possession, exchange, or use of it illegal.
