The Law of Attraction has been around for quite a while now, with roots that stem back into the 1800s, along with the rise of New Age Spirituality.
But with Rhonda Byrne’s film, “The Secret” that was promoted extensively by Oprah Winfrey, the Law of Attraction has reached whole new heights of popularity. This in addition to the continuous popularity and sales of Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich”, have created a large following of believers in the Law of Attraction and the idea that our thoughts and feelings are able to quite literally change the reality we are living in.
Which begs the question… does the law of attraction work? Can I truly manifest the life I want?
In the first part of this two-part series I’ll be taking a look into the actual philosophy behind the Law of Attraction, the supposed “science” behind this belief, and potential explanations for why it can sometimes seem like our thoughts and feelings are able to change our reality.
In the second part of this two-part series, I’ll be taking a look at the New Age Spirituality industry, the gurus, and where the money flows. Because make no mistake: this is no small business. Individuals like Rhonda Byrne, Esther Hicks, Napoleon Hill, have made millions from promoting this ideology. But how trustworthy are these people, and is there a darker truth behind these seemingly innocent, “optimistic” individuals?

Well, I mean, like I live in San Diego. And where I live there are all these dumb yuppies who would love this childish belief that “EVERYTHING is beautiful!” I mean, like this one woman who really annoyed me at a literature class I took many many years ago. She had to spin everything so it could be tied up all nicely in a bow like the end of a Disney movie. The problem is that real life is not like a TV sitcom where everything magically falls into place at the end of the day. Is it really “bad” to think about some things not working out so great? No, you’re just being realistic. I mean, you don’t have to be a total pessimist if you’re able to look at different shades of gray. But there are all these dumb-fucks out there who just have to have this kind of “Pollyanna” type bullshit view of the world that I probably haven’t had since kindergarten.

Positive thinking and picturing out the life you want leading to motivation to work hard on it in itself is not bad and it works on many people. My problem with these are people who take advantage of people who are trying to turn their lives around and be better by taking their hard earned money and gaslighting them into action. No one can really truly change you but yourself.

@Jamesjani600 The Law of Attraction strikes again today in Ukraine: "A 64-year-old woman and a young couple died. Their little son still remains under the rubble of the house," And some 10 days ago. a 2 day old child was killed. Must have been all these negative thoughts and expecting bad things to happen, right? Especially, the two day old baby must have sent out a powerful negative thought to attract the Russian missile.

I do think its bad. You need negative thoughts as much as positive thoughts. And the amount you can change yourself on your own is very limited. You need to be open to it and put in the effort but you need help from others. Changing yourself is a team effort and often is never finished. You always need friends or a loved one or husband/wife. People who can help keep you in check and who depend on you for the same thing. The important part though is that it's a team effort, it's not solely you or the people helping you. It's both of you and they should do it out of actual care for you as friends and family. Such a thing is known as a community.

I also do think trying to picture something is bad cause it will never happen. Nobody can see the future so you need to eventually settle that your life is "close enough".

100% exact. Then don't care about the goals at all (really) and you get them just because the "giver" see you as non desperate and self confident....hence you get it. Not because is magic mumbo jumbo. Then all those people trying to convince others to be rich, have this and that...what for if they are fine as is?

19:40 I don't know, I used to believe in it but now I feel negative emotions have their place as well. Suppressing them just is bad in every level and you should embrace your negative emotions just as much as your positive emotions. If I hurt someone I will allow myself to feel guilt over it, if someone I love dies I will allow myself to feel mourning for them, if something big is coming up I will allow myself to be nervous about it. That kind of is what made discarding the law of attraction so liberating to me. It is allowing myself to feel freely again.

As sensitive biological organisms embedded in incredibly complex systems it's perfectly natural for us to feel all kinds of emotions. Ultimately any judgement on whether something feels good or bad is just a thought, an interpretation, but no to be confused with the raw embodied sensations occurring in the moment. I think the idea that we aren't supposed to experience much intensity ('negative' emotions/ sensations)is the toxic lie, and the idea that there is part of us that is supposed to be constantly regulating and judging and editing and censoring our thoughts and emotions, it's a cruel conceptual framework to live in and it ultimately divides you against yourself.

I kept a journal and I would try to only write about the positive things, and to write in a way that if I read it in few weeks it would not bring back and make me relive bad moments. But it’s very easy to be in control when you are single. Now I have a husband and child, I can be as positive as I wish about tomorrow, but if my daughter wakes up vomiting at 3 in the morning… F*** positivity, F*** tomorrow. And it’s ok.

@Xirrious

That's because the self help gurus only give you half the equation and pretend it doesn't involve hard work. You can't just be positive in the face of adversity. You have to Develop the ability to process negative emotions a certain way, which is where the skill.comes in. They don't ever mention this because it's very difficult to achieve. It is possible though, it does work if you learn how to think the right way. You have to read old books to actually learn though. Philosophy and occultism hold a ton of keys.

I often come back to this video to remind myself of the dangers of this concept. I grew up with someone who raised me on this for a majority of my life. Even to the point that when I began having mental health issues that affected me physically, "thinking positive" was the surefire only way to "cure" me. I have the help I need and still consider myself quite optimistic, though my advice to anyone who's offered a "one and only way" out, proceed with caution and trust your intuition as to whether it's personally working for you or not. You know what's best for you.

I think this all goes back to the fact that anything can become a bad thing if practiced improperly. Manifesting, is not the same as toxic positivity. There’s a crucial element taken out of this equation as well.. When bad things happen, it’s not always our fault. I think the proper way to go about it,is to let go of the thoughts which bring you down and don’t serve you. Instead of telling yourself “I’ll never amount to anything”, which turns off your ability to dream, you can say “ Man, this really hurts, but one day things will get better”. Allow the feelings to go through you and have your pity party. Then visualize what you want for your future and make strides toward those goals. It’s also a good time to take accountability to see which areas you may need to grow. If you believe in a higher power, you ask them for help and trust that what you Need will happen when it’s meant to be. Things aren’t always going to go our way even when we do it all “correctly”, but we just keep on going and don’t lose sight of our dreams and who we are. We can’t lose sight of God either (If you believe in him). I hope this helped.

Another problem I see with the fundamental “philosophy” behind the LOA is that it profoundly encourages people to try and achieve their goals only by thinking and not actually acting. Apart from being dangerously individualistic and relativistic. When I was young and impressionable a friend showed me the film The Secret and we believed it all: my mental architecture was fully reorganized by this belief system and I started trying to get the things I wanted by obsessively thinking about them (with all the guilt issues you very accurately comment), especially the love of a girl I liked (I also thought much about her because I liked her 🤣 obviously). But getting to the ultimate consequences of this philosophy, it became that I was the center of the universe (like all reality was my subjective universe) and as that I had the right to get what I wanted, and only by thinking about those things. I had the right to get this girl, regardless of her own free will and preferences. In this universe she owed to submit to me, if I thought enough and correctly about her to make the law of attraction work. Ultimately, believing in the law of attraction is believing one has the right to anything and anybody, and only by thinking and desiring (its a bit childish in that aspect). You don’t need to make real efforts, you don’t need to stick to a moral law. (Sorry for bad English)

So, I gave it up and followed Jesus instead. I had even trained in yoga teaching and had been teaching it. I mainly taught the philosophy, as well as the poses. I had also been studying with Swami Jnaneshvara, an adept of Swami Rama. When he had berated me for the last time that I took it, I decided enough was enough and I left him behind too. This is an amazing one, thank you !! Being myself a physicist, (I studied theoretical physics and quantum mechanics), it always drives me insane when I bump into people justifying their nonsense with pseudoscience, borrowing some superficial jargon from theoretical physics. I think that some "populizers of science" are also to blame to some degree, as they often try to over-simplify some of the most complex concepts of theoretical physics, therefore, some people take juste the superficial/philosophical representation of the concepts, thinking that they now "understand" quantum physics and quantum theory. I think I am going to share your video every time I get into a debate about LOA instead of wasting my time and energy (no pun intended) trying to explain things to them.

@@bluwng I don't understand what you are questioning? I am a university-educated science teacher and have worked as a teacher for over ten years. So I know science pretty well. And certainly, science only knows a limited part of how things work. I have not written any other statement about it. The only thing I point out is that scientific claims are often used in the spiritual world and that it is almost always pseudoscience that is used. A pity as there is very exciting science that has been done and is being done on subjects that could be used by spiritual people to strengthen their faith. I also follow the spiritual world as I am interested in things that science cannot answer. Often there is disdain for science within the spiritual world which is a great shame as I see these two subjects as two sides of the same coin. And as I wrote, many spiritual people believe they have found "the truth" while most scientists are humble enough (not all though) to see themselves as the eternal seekers. An answer only brings new questions.

I was attending a new thought church when 'The Secret' came out. Everyone at this church was raving about how wonderful this was. I felt uncomfortable and the more I thought about it, the more I felt it was a bad thing. There was no secret here, but this information was not mainstream and I knew that many people would be harmed by it. I had been studying metaphysics and comparative religion for decades. The 'Secret' totally dumbed down and twisted some things and also led to a great deal of apathy concerning any real sane way of living and hurting real community. Including no one paid any attention to what was happening politically (new thought people) or to things becoming more and more corrupt. Everyone was in their own little bubble working on 'psychically' influencing others to do what they wanted, one way of manifesting. I later left the new thought church. If someone wants to manifest something, focus on it and then get off your butt and do something.

It does not help that these deviants use out-of-context/false quotes and mystic, transcendence type music behind all their one-liners! Good god, it's incredibly annoying! A criticism that came to mind after watching your overview is this: If you can manifest things such as money by changing your frequency, would that mean money is inherent within the universe? You do not need to think long to recognize that currency is strictly human. Also, that bit with the man saying that logic is holding us back is disturbing! You're taking out the one tool for any sort of critical thinking and rational, it genuinely gives me Warhammer 40k vibes.

I got deep into it and spirituality when I was like 18. I did it originally to manifest a girl I liked. Obviously, she didn't liked me back and I ended up getting depressed and having mental breakdown because of it. I be in the subreddit and they be like "oh, just keep trying it's only part of the story." The real advice I should have had was just move on to someone else. It would have save me a lot of time and mental health wouldn't have gone bad. I do believe in manifestation but not in the way these quack think. If they believe in manifestation, they would not be charging money for seminars and courses. Behind every spiritual and LOA is a marketer like the quote said. If I was a manifestor, I would never charge money and hand out free books/guides. Hell, I manifest the lottery winnings.

It's all a mindset. It's not that if you manifest it it will come. You have to put action toward it. The positive thoughts should only be to keep you pushing forward toward your goal. So I think you misunderstand. If you just write it down and do nothing, then nothing will happen. If you go through life with a negative mindset that's all you're going to ever experience. Life is hard and it's hard to stay positive, but how else do we get through life, if we don't believe in ourselves just enough? I used to think the Law of Attraction was crap, but I misunderstood at first. It wasn't that I needed to manifest $100,000 dollars, but more like, how can I reach a goal of eventually making $100,000 dollars. And I simply did research on how to better handle my assets. Once I got that down, I learned about investing, and started to use my job to help set up a 401k and an IRA Roth, and learned how to budget. Etc. The point is, through the law of attraction I learned that with a positive mindset and a clear goal I could make something happen, but other factors, played a huge role in that. Now, I work my same job, been there six years, learned about the LoA three years ago during the pandemic and I'm debt free, my credit is at a 725 and I no longer live paycheck to paycheck. I eat at home, I live a minimal lifestyle and I have my sacrifices that I've made to live a much simpler life. I understand that I don't need $300 shoes, I don't need to drive a benz. So technically, I havent made $100,000 but with the things Ive taught myself, and because I write down my goals with positivity, I know I will reach that $100,000 more likely through my retirement--but, I've never been as financially free as I am now. And I did it adjusting and putting a few things into place and using the basic concept of the LoA.

Well I never encountered any more cruel critics than the people living accordingly to the system we live in and who would blame you for everything and see you as total failure if you cannot meet their standards for instance you are depressed and I never encountered more positive people and more positive comments than these below videos about the law of attraction for free. What I understand from the law of attraction is that we are living in a matrix, a dream and the key is to take control over it as much as you can by recognizing our inside. It's all about changing and widening our perspective and also about changing our attitude toward things. Bad things are more and more like shadows for me now and they really seem to disappear, I just don't get so much annoyed when I encounter them. I stopped being constantly miserable, it also helped me to cope with aggression, the past etc. It really works for me. Several years ago a well positioned psychotherapist and psychologist in my country scammed me because she was like a "loving" parent to me and as I was abused in my childhood I was constantly looking for a savior throughout my all life, she took additional money for me claiming that I am very difficult patient for instance. Putting all my trust to some institutional entity like psychologists seemed very logical and reasonable to me, but being logic and reasonable never really brought me anything positive in my life, just the opposite. I don't think that people who really believe in the law of attraction and are aware of themselves could be scammed because it's about all believing in yourself and being aware of yourself. When you are aware of yourself ,the golden rule like do not harm approach to the others seems automatically close to you so it's not about the power to do the evil. That psychologist wouldn't have the ability to scam me now because now I feel I am the one who takes the responsibility and controls my reality and I don't feel a victim anymore of anyone.

I think it has a lot to do with the people today on youtube "teaching" the law of attraction. In Napoleon Hill's book, he doesn't talk about just vizualising your goals and that makes them come true. There is a LOT of things left you need to to. Have an organized plan, be persistent, educate yourself, instead of walking around praying it's gonna happen. Many people get this wrong. You are not manifesting anything if you are just sitting in your room doing nothing but vizualising yourself doing it. The Law of attraction is much more complex. That's why I would recommend anyone to READ and EDUCATE themselfes on the subject. Don't just watch a youtube video that says "visualize it and get it". No, you need to get every piece of the puzzle right. I believe in the law of attraction because of the actual logic behind it, and I have manifested many things, not by sitting in my room thinking and not doing like it sounded you did, but actually trying for real.

The thing about LOA is the constant goalpost moving. 1. "You weren't clear on what you wanted to manifest." So you write clear manifestation goals. 2. "You didn't frame them in a positive way." So you write to remove any negative language. 3. "You didn't believe in what you were manifesting." Well, this is unquantifiable but you put more effort into believing. 4. "You didn't feel the feelings of having what you wanted." Again, unquantifiable. So you feel more? 5. "You have deep seated blocks that you need to work on." And on and on the goal posts move.

Pseudo-science, however, will always "explain itself" with it's own beliefs and create an infinite loop of explanations, like you showed in your comment. It's the same with horoscopes. If I tell an astrologist I'm a pisces, they'll say "you're very emotional", when I tell them I'm actually not, they say "oh, it's your sagittarius moon that's causing you to be this and this" and if that doesn't match me at all, they'll look at my rising sign, venus, jupiter, mars... If a person makes content that falls within KZfaq's TOS and monetization policy, and that content gets a lot of views/engagement, then that person can enjoy some level of success on KZfaq. There's also nothing wrong with being a "critic", and fair use allows limited use of copyrighted material for this exact purpose. "The Secret" is one of the examples that some books can be very toxic, I used to worship that book like a bible, I thought that it could change my life in a positive way but I ended up living a nightmare for almost 3 years while forcing myself to think positive all the time, otherwise a single negative thought could destroyed the "positive vibe" (according to the book) and I will attract bad events into my life. The fact is, "law of attraction" is just simply an idea that whatever we focus on we tend to see it more, that is it, there is no human magnet, no karma, no forcing yourself to think positive 24/7 even when you're sleeping, no affirmations or any BS that book taught you . It is just an illusion that you can control everything and your emotional all the time while the fact is it is normal if we being through struggle, we feel bad, we feel sad, it's all normal, we did not "attracted" them and it is not our fault, and yet "The Secret" convinced us that it is our fault that we were sick, unhappy, poor, that we attracted all of those bad things in our life and we must gain the control again by been positive . All I can tell you guys is don't be a foolish like me and got hooked by this book, if you try to control the things that cannot be controlled, something has to give, and in this case it will be your happiness.

Lol but its true, everything is a choice, therefore ur fault, if u feel happy when others feel sad, its ur choice, if you feel bad when others feel happy, its your choice, if everything external try to convince you or detect how u should feel and u choose to feel differently, its just ur choice to live above sensory input, the law of attraction is not false , only have been taught by amateurs who re out to make money, just like pastors who re out to make money using the Gospel, doesn't make the Gospel false or fake, just the teachers, if you know how many physics formulas or mathematical formulas have changed since you learnt them, u will call the educational system false, these scientists taught what they thought were facts at the time, but over time newer discoveries were made but they couldn't go back to the world to announce 'sorry we fooled you, that formula you learnt in high school was false, learn the updated one' that will shift reality because a lot of decisions have been made on those past formulas, there is a reason why the bible asked you to meditate on the word of God day and night, its so that ur consciousness will always filter your thoughts through the knowledge of God and not the new knowledge you encountered in the internet or from a friend, this video is a new information, u re going to start seeing things from James point of view, u will accept his POV if it makes u feel any better, but he is no different from the gurus, he's only showing you one new perspective to filter your thoughts through, but at the end of the day, its your choice to choose or ignore it, that's true power, choosing what you want to accept or reject without allowing anyone or anything force it down your throat. But will you make good choices? That depends on how much you understand what works for you and what doesn't, its like semen retention or no fap, which is obviously placebo though with biological advantages, however it works for those looking to feel confident for achieving something they think others can't, refraining from sex , that feeling of being able to do something others can't do in the society will surely boost your confidence and hence give u all other emotions tthat comes with confidence, such as positivity, clarity of mind and thoughts, you get my drift, doesn't mean there re no heavy fuckers who don't constantly feel motivated or confident, its just what they have chosen to be true for them ,you just have to choose these things clearly because truely they will detect your next choice or your understanding of the choices presented to you to make. Don't make those choices to belief things that have too many obstacles that can sabotage you due to lack on consistency or conviction in believing it , they will indeed haunt you. My advice is, Choose God, and seek his kingdom, you can't choose him and go wrong, ever, if you don't believe in God, then you re in deep shit, because u won't be able to actually believe or trust in anything which is dangerous, u will unstable.

@@sidekick3910 "its true, everything is a choice, therefore ur fault" So victims of mass shootings chose to be shot? Do people choose to have cancer? Do they choose to be born into poverty? If everything is your choice and your fault, it means you're almighty. Otherwise it is not working. People can't be responsible for things they have no control over. But if you think that you're almighty, then you're basically see yourself as a God. And what kind of christian\jew\muslim would do that? Did you actually read the Bible? Do you know any prayers? Which one of them states: " God, even though I'm as powerful as you are, please guide me" ? Only thing you can choose is how to (re)act. You don't choose what happens to you, even though sometimes it is influenced by your action. And what Bible is teaching in this regard is to actually accept things that happened to you as the will of God, and do the best you can while still honoring him and staying humble. Thinking that your thoughts can directly influence reality is far from humble. My advice to you is to (re)read the Bible and learn who is Almighty God and who are just his humble servants. And pray, for this is a really humbling practice. And to those who don't believe in God: just realize that you only responsible for things you have direct control over. You can try to manipulate some things indirectly in your life, but never expect anything out of it. Treat life like an adventure in unknown lands: you can choose in which direction to go and how fast to travel. But you can't choose what places are you gonna find or what people are you going to meet.

You nailed it! Many people fall for it and say, for example; LOA is real because Oprah can't be wrong! Our obsession with "happiness" and "positive thinking" has made us feel guilty if we behave normally, just as expected from a non-perfect human. It's OK to be sometimes sad, unhappy or angry. And no, positive thinking cannot cure severe diseases like cancer! I know about a person with extremely active life and a happy and positive worldview, who had healthy food, exercise, etc, but passed away from cancer at 40.

It’s not always a miracle cure, especially when it comes to something like cancer. Your mind state does have a profound effect on your physiology though. That’s what the placebo effect is. Also, there are so many more factors involved in health other than just activity and “eating clean”(Which is very convoluted in itself). You also have to take into account the environment someone was/is in (Were they living in a house that had undetected mold growing up?). There are vegetables that absorb harmful chemicals from the soil(Broccoli for example). Did they eat non organic? Did they eat high carbs and sugars? These feed cancer cells. There’s so much to account for when it comes to someone’s health. But what we do know, is that having a sense of belonging and positive mindset create better health outcomes for people statistically. I’m so sorry for your loss. Please don’t give up on having a great outlook on life because of this.

@@Klfo777 I generally agree with you, and of course having a positive mindset is proven to be of great effect. However, I was talking about something else! The topic of the video is about the big market generated around the "LOA" nonsense. There is even a known case of a person believing the BS written in the book "the Secret", who behaved according to its teachings but lost her life. Cathy Goodman, a cancer patient thought that this LOA thing is a big deal, but it was not. LOA is not about the placebo effect; it has become a cult belief. Unfortunately, celebrities like Oprah and Bob Proctor are advertising this toxic positivity, and it has become like a cult belief, i.e. if you don't buy it, you're negative or anti-progressive. This is the problem, not the general idea you talked about. Lastly, I thank you for your sympathetic words.

Positive thinking can cure illness and prevent it, I've experienced this when I was depressed, just like feeling love can release endorphins and hormones that make u feel butterflies in ur stomach and happy, fear and enxiety also have their own chemical reactions in our bodies such s the release of adrenaline which is supposed to be temporary but prolonged due to these conditions as the mind cannot tell if u r really in danger or not this also inhibiting other natural processes from occurring because u r always in flight mode for no real reason. So there's no harm in investing ur life to positive living, I sure dont want to be dippressed for the rest of my life wether I become rich or not.

@shuxu posse firstly, not everyone that followed LOA believe that *everything* you experience is bc you manifested it. In fact I saw literally 5 posts on Twitter yesterday stating that- that the key to manifestation is intent. Second, ppl that believe in it, choose what they want to manifest. It isn't surprising that famous/well known ppl use it to gain material things-as, IMHO, most of those ppl got to where they are bc they're narcissistic hedonists driven by money, fame and power. That being said, u literally need money to survive under capitalism. Nothing is free & the "american dream" is based on having those things- money, a nice home, a family etc. Lastly, of course LOA isnt proven via scientific method, bc there's no way to quantify the results. Just like magick, the paranormal etc. Just bc it isn't proven by science and data sets and studies, Doesnt mean it isn't real. There are plenty of things that there either haven't been studied on, or again, aren't quantifiable, that ppl believe in and that work for them. Doesn't make them any less real to the ppl that believe

On the subject of LOA, like most beliefs, religion for an example, these are things that don't require proof as they should only be utilised for shaping your own character. Unfortunately, once something like a belief is monetized it becomes demonised. As above, so below. Unfortunately human nature seems to end up exploiting anything positive. Belief should never involve exchange of anything tangible, science has no place in beliefs that are meant to be for personal development and building good character

As good ol' Hitchen's Razor goes: "That which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence". The above simply exist to con and control sheep who cannot come to terms with their own mortality and vanity, who want to feel that they're part of something bigger and that their life has some divine purpose. (Spoiler alert: It doesn't).

The problem with the law of attraction is that it's become a marketing scheme. I don't believe what most of the "gurus" say and I don't believe it's anything magical. However, when you change your beliefs, you change your perception of reality, and that in turn causes you to act differently. You can't manifest completely unrealistic things, but your thoughts do have a large impact on your actions/ perception of reality. Like with the whole apple thing - if you wanted apple and started thinking about them more, you'd find more apples in your surroundings (replace apples with opportunities, things you want, etc.). They don't magically come out of no where. You just start noticing them. Therefore, I think it has some truth to it and I apply what I feel is beneficial into my own life. That being said, I would not listen to anyone that is making money off of it. It has become a weird cult-y thing and I don't subscribe to that.

Let me give you an example. I went to LA in January 2019 for a short vacation. On the plane ride I got stuck in a cramped space next to gross people and I had tried to manifest getting into one of the more spacious seats on my way there. Didn't happen lol so on the way back home I had said to myself "oh well, it's okay, next time I fly I'll fly in first class" as a way to comfort myself. and I kid you not 2 days after I got home my friend who works at air Canada messages me and asks whether I want to go to Amsterdam with her. Research? Really? Look at the subtle bias which James attaches to his statements - "...unfalsifiable claims or ideas pave the way for those that have bad intentions." What about the group of people that have good intentions - he doesn't explore this group of people at all! You ultimately find what you want to see - and ignore everything else. Cherry pick the information for convenience! All his research is googled! - Has James ever sat for a 10 day silent meditation course - focusing on breath for 14 hours a day???? Has James ever truly surrendered to anything without judgement or bias? I doubt it!

I think The only reason law of attraction works for some people is it amplifies one's desire or will. They consciously or subconsciously do things required to achieve what they want no matter what it takes, which not everyone can do. It's faith-based. Believing in something without any evidence. That's freaking hard! Which is why I admire anyone who's able to achieve what they want out of sheer faith.
@MrMarinus18
@MrMarinus18 Жыл бұрын
The problem though is that it's non-falsifiable. Maybe these things would have happened to them even if they didn't specifically wish for them. You also usually have a huge amount of bias in it. "Something positive" is a very vague thing and "vibe" is also very subjective so it can be changed to fit whatever happen to you.

It “worked” for me but it required such a strong mental discipline, that I don’t think I can replicate it now. I was single at the time and so I could “invest” all of my time and energy in to achieving my goals. Do read the rest only if you are interested. For me the important keys were my journal (for accountability), mindfulness of my speech (written or spoken) the second one take time, but you can learn it. If a husband says “I help my wife a lot around the house” you can note that for him household chores are his wife’s job, not his’s. The way we think influences our speech and the other way around is true too. If I’m in my lunch break and I say “I’m tired” it just hammers me down, that’s it there is nothing to do about it. But if I say “I need to go to bed earlier tonight” my brain starts organising my evening in a way that I can go to sleep earlier. You can call it “positive thinking” but it just put a stupid label on something that requires constant attention and mindfulness. I do recommend a journal, because it makes you accountable first to your self. If you write “tomorrow I’ll go to the gym” it stays there, you will see it tomorrow. You will start making promises that you can hold up to like “tomorrow I’ll do 3 push ups” and if you do 3 push ups every day I can promise you it will have a very positive result in less then a month, more the a gym subscription every January. Having a journal is an overall positive experience, you can count down days to something important it helps you track your goals and it’s nice to sometimes read old stuff and see how much you have grown. Good luck!

@@lucieciepka1031 A problem though is that if someone is very strong of will, determined in their dedication and has a very clear view. They usually come from a well off background and already have a dream and the means to get it. That's is a big reason why it's so usually a failure but does work on occasion. Usually the people who could actually make use of it don't need it in the first place. I also think the law of attraction is very bad because it encourages turning inwards and in many cases that's actually the thing you should absolutely NOT do. You should turn to your friends and family for help. Most people who turn to self help have weak self-discipline, not many resources and a lack of connection on purpose.

Thanks James, when I was 17 I used the law of attraction without realising it was a thing. All three manifestations came true. Then I came across the book a couple of years ago and realised what occurred. Here's the difference, I put into action all of my manifestations and fought for it. The core issue you've identified is correct most people expect for example wealth, health, happiness without sacrifices and sometimes in conflict with other laws. They become vulnerable in the pursuit of these goals to scam artists as you've identified in your video which is worth noting. I'm working on my next manifestation. These are goals which I will aim for. No guru needed. Great video as always.

@@n7quantum472 You wont...he has to realize it for himself - he has to get to a point where he starts to question his beliefs because he starts to lose hope in his current beliefs, he has to give up, lose all hope, it's like a reset button - that's where waking up process starts OR a process of blaming himself -> drinking/drugs -> gets so BAD that in one morning of particularly bad hangover it makes him question it all - and if not, this cycle of shit will continue until the questioning happens one day OR suicide. Take it from someone who went through that cycle and woke up recently after 6 years of it. If you're so long into it, it becomes part of your identity, your friends are into it - so starting to question it means coming to face with losing everything you think you knew, your identity, your friends, you have no idea what to believe anymore etc. I was lucky because for me it was a big relief - but for me truth has always been #1, no matter how bad it may feel. But if you are a pleasure seeker and come to this...man, shit. Good luck though, I totally feel your worries and frustration, it sucks if you want to help but cant. I have learned that all you can do is just be there, listen him/her and if you have a different opinion, share it calmly in a neutral informative way, so he wont get a feeling you are trying to get him on your side/pushing your opinion into him/making him feel wrong etc...that only makes him defensive. But if he does above to you with his own opinions or to response of your calmly neutrally stated opinion, which turns talk into arguing, it's best to just totally avoid all these topics that cause that or/and calmly love him from afar and hope he comes to his senses someday.

Great effects and storytelling. When I found the law of attraction in 2014, I was pretty broken and had lost all hope in our government system as well as our economic services. I believed money was the root of all evil, and my life wasn't ever going to amount to shit. Being diagnosed with mental illness and ravaged by my drug addiction seems to be living on couches or in a tent was what I was reduced to.......... well, then something happened. I'm not going to tell you I healed myself, overcame addiction, and manifest my dream life. What I will say is this. The law of attraction gave My my 1st dose of "taking responsibility." It put it in my hands to correct my life. I REAPED WHAT I SEWED. Yes, I believe and still believe that writing a definitive purpose down and repeating it daily is like magic. Things do seem to magically appear in my life. Opportunities seem to pop up more than they ever did. ALL these self-help gurus have had a tid bit of knowledge that was enlightening or a tool to use when implemented made things easier (Budgeting, journals, task list, goals list, visualization etc). Fake or not my life is radically different today. I got help in rehab and recovery rooms for my addiction. I started a business, got married, bought a house, and have many nice things. I'm writing this from my hot tub this morning, where I'll listen to some think and grow rich, repeating my Montra and visualizing a future on another level. For what's its worth..... I STILL BELIEVE. IM LIVING PROOF!!!! Tell me, James. Did you take anything positive away from your deep dive into self-help and the law of attraction? Did you take any tools away?

I’m living proof too!! Thinking positive about myself has changed my life and also healed me. I too was addict and a serious alcoholic, to where I put myself in liver failure. I’m still a work in progress, as I believe we all are; but I can say for a fact with my own life that believing I’m healthy and healed changed everything!! Had I not known anything about any of this, I probably wouldn’t be alive. I do believe that when we tell ourselves things like “I’m fat, I’m ugly, no one wants me,” we definitely manifest those things into our lives!! I know this for a fact!! Thinking and believing wholeheartedly positive statements about myself has changed my life!! I’m actually so relieved I saw your comment, sending much love from FL. ❤️ And you know, in the LOA channels the comments are so helpful, positive and thoughtful towards complete strangers. No one is ever not wanting another person’s dreams and goals to not come true, or trying to debunk any of their personal beliefs; they’re all filled with love and support. I really don’t think that’s such a bad thing honestly; spreading love and positivity is desperately needed in our corrupt world full of division and negativity.

I followed the Law of Attraction for many years, i was heavily invested, but soon came to realize the faults and dangers in the way it was being taught. The principles of positive thinking is not a bad thing, but we have to realise that what we consider bad or bad thoughts, or negative experiences are not bad at all. Rather all things are necessary for growth. Being in harmony with your thoughts, both "positive" and "negative" is truly the key to real growth.Blindly going into LOA as it is preached, can lead to disastrous results. I agree. I truly believe that people don’t know the difference between changing their thoughts and words to being more hopeful, grateful, and/or open ended vs being toxically positive. Toxic positivity is invalidating to your experience. Take in the experience, feel the feelings, and then let them go when ready. But don’t keep the negative thoughts that don’t serve you. Negative self talk is also toxic. So there’s a balance to it.
