Before Alex left Slovenia, EK let him take a little peek in the R&D and manufacturing areas for a little insight on how the company makes its parts.

My nickel GPU block corroded (GTX 10xx FE) and it isn't nice enough anymore to be shown vertical, is there a way to be helped out by EK? Maybe for like ~70€ or so (idk just a guess) and I would be happy. The corrosion is my fault, as I only used distilled water and not EKs premix (changed now), but I still don't know why it would corrode (nickel plated blocks from EK and copper radiators (GTS) paired with Barrow fittings)... Thanks.
@umadbroyolo8413
@umadbroyolo8413 5 жыл бұрын
The metal corrodes until the distilled water has the same concentration of ions as the metal - also known as equilibrium. Very pure distilled water is actually electrically non-conductive because it has so few ions. There are videos on KZfaq of guys submerging entire PC's in water and working for a while (until the water accumulates enough ions to become electrically conductive, then the PC parts die lol).

Hello bit-tech guys, a question for you: did you run any Computational Fluid Dynamics models on your design of (micro) fins and channels?
@bittech1
@bittech1 2 жыл бұрын
Heyo, Alex here. I did try once but I quickly found it just wasn’t something that was particularly worth the time. For commercial products though it makes sense, EK would for instance.
@alichen6868
@alichen6868 2 жыл бұрын
@@bittech1 Ok, I see, you are not EK. That's the question: did EK do any actual RESEARCH on the effectiveness of their fin geometry and overall water flow? Your video shows a plain manufacturing, not research or development. All indications are that they have not done any research. If they did, all their place would be covered with nice colorful pictures of heat distribution and fluxes, with tons of charts about heat transfer flux density (or thermal impedances) per water flow rate. Do you know of any water block manufacturing company who did this?
@bittech1
@bittech1 2 жыл бұрын
@@alichen6868 It’s worth mentioning that obviously we weren’t allowed to film inside the R&D offices you know. I’m not entirely sure how you could draw that conclusion from not seeing research print outs in an office, that we didn’t even film? Most likely EVERY major Watercooling company will do some form of CFD analysis at some point when developing a new product.
@alichen6868

@@bittech1 I already stated one reason why I think that no modeling was done. The models are usually a badge of pride for a company, and a good marketing tool. There is no need to hide the fact of modelling, and no need to show any actual result that might constitute know-how. I found, however, a significant academic effort in microfin area, there are world-wide conferences etc. However, this does not replace actual optimization of channels, smaller-dense fins are not always better.

Might well be a cost factor for the individual shop that makes them for EK tbh. Fittings are pretty low tolerance parts, sliding head lathes are £££, the additional throughput might not justify the price increase for them.
