Just sitting here watching that assembly, then the holes in the cherry clicked and my brain went 'my god, he's going to run the cables through them. Wire by wire.' My estimation of this project just skyrocketed. You absolute madman!

Cherry with inserts worked out very well indeed! While I'm a big fan of cherry, Bloodwood is also a favorite. Like cherry it photo reacts and tends to turn to a deep red - purple on aging. Very pleasant. On the up side - it smells great while machining!

Your level of design and fabrication has gone through the roof with this build, sir. What a lovely, incredible build.

The cherry is absolutely beautiful. The aluminium inlays are a great touch. You did right in incorporating those.

Just watched this for a second time. I love the cherry combs I am amazed !

Couple more tips from a pro. 1. Install end mills as deep as possible into the collet. Stick out.. keep it to a minimum to avoid chatter and end mill breaking. 2. Use climb milling for roughing and conventional milling for the finish pass. The finish will be significantly better, especially in smaller mills. Nice job! Keep up the good work.

Very inspired to do something similar but with my own take on things. Nearing the end of getting my home shop fully setup, it currently has a fully upgraded ShopSabre 23 CNC router and a FlexArm A32 pneumatic tapping arm. Been using CAD(Fusion360) for about 6 years and ECAD software for PCB design(EasyEDA) for about 8 months. One of the primary focuses of my build will be to use PCB's instead of wires to hide away all wire runs. PCB's will be within aluminum frame(might be made out of composites instead of aluminum) and computers components plug discretely into the pcb with no long lengths of wire 😁

I'd love to see an entire computer desk built to this aesthetic. If you made furniture like this, you could sell it to millionaires for tens of thousands of dollars per set. Make a side table in the style of the old antique kind, but with the aluminium and cherry materials. Wow, that'd be breathtaking.

Danish oil and beeswax is a combination used to bring out the color in a lot of lighter woods. I think people use shellac for dark colored wood.

This build is coming along beautifully! I better see this showcased on Asrock’s website when it’s done! Also, keep in mind cherry will darken with age and UV exposure. It is a beautiful wood nonetheless. A tip with wood, quarter-sawn boards are much, much less prone to warping, bowing, and cupping than plain-sawn boards, and have a nice straight grain across the entire board

I think in interior design they would say the Al inlays allow the combs to "talk" to the chassis. Either way, it indeed looks stunning and was a great idea. An inspired build, looking forward to the rest.

I found myself enjoying building pc case and doing diy projects than playing pc games. Although I just recently failed a pc case project since it needs more accurate cutting from a cnc (which I don't have), it's still quite an enjoyable experience. That sandblasted aluminium looks so good. I only do a brushed aluminium with sand papers. 😂

For finish passes make sure your on clean sharp insert or bit, best to just use new or newish. Also increase speed around 25 to 45 % and slow feed down about 20 to 40% A rough guidence on themmchanges anyway. P.S. if you have a small hydraulic press, and some vig enough parallels you shoukd be able to flatten stuff out, used to have to do that a lot. There is a bit of technique involved in doing it but always check with a straight edge and lress down on the high spots. 3 to 4mm will come out easy.

Best scratch build ever 🤯 the amount of details on the machining and the CAD work is NASA/SpaceX worthy. Can I ask what's your day job and what did you study at uni?

Those inlays are stunning! Might be cool to do the reverse if you end up with any large chunks of aluminum, toss some wood inlay in! Also, are you going to be doing anything for the mounting cubes? Sorry, can't remember the proper name of them. The shinny finish is distracting to the eye.

FYI vacuum pods for your cnc is a fairly simple project, especially with your experience and design skill.

i think it would've looked really cool to have chamfered the metal you put in the wood so the two materials dont just butt up to each other, it'd be a nice little detail but it might be too late for that seeing how tightly they fit in already!

Absolutely gorgeous work. Couldn't agree more with 'I'll know it's there', many things I do will not be seen but I know they've been done right. Not trying to be picky whatsoever but I'm a bit surprised that the standoffs weren't reduced in length by the same amount, a little jig would have worked (a nut maybe). Missed opportunity or just keen to test? I do think you'll return to these and either replace them or make your own versions from something exotic! I've always felt that the tops of the metal standoffs should offer a greater mating surface with the motherboard (them old plastic ones were huge in comparison), perfect chance to do that here! Keep up the excellent work, loving every minute of these videos, thank you for sharing.

This look fabulous, and not staining the wood makes perfect sense. But you should stabilize it or at least fill the pores, or it will get dirty too easily and move a lot with humidity and temperature changes

So nice to look at! I'm also making a POM wasteboard on my CNC router. What thread size do you use in the wasteboard (I'd guess M5 or M8) and how hard can you tighten the bolts?

Allways fun to see someone do work for themselves. Your Gskill build? Well done for sure, but compared to the attention to detail for your own rig? Amazing. Loved the line 'they will be behind the motherboard, but i will know that they are there'. The first build of yours im watching from start to finish for that reason alone. So, stop milling about and get on with it......😊

How did you correctly register the placement and especially rotation of the work piece when you put it back on the cnc for the chamfer? I never seem to be able to get it that perfect.

By the time the case is finished, maybe there is a newer motherboard board already. :X

Maybe you should get some 5mm parallels so you don't drill more holes on your fixtures plate then needed to be there
