I would like to see more on how to work with the CNC mill. How do you fix the parts, what security measures must be taken to protect you and your tools. how do you make the final cut? Changing tools etc. I am kinda hesitant with such things, mainly because of lack of experience.

Fat2Mad To be fair a lot of that info is on the channel already. For instance we have videos on making my fixture plate, vice fixtures, how to machine distro plates and many other pieces in individual distro videos showing how I tackle things like double sided jobs etc. The issue with some of the other things is that they change depending on machines and so on. If I were to get an automatic tool changer then it would be a very different process compared to a DeWalt router like you get on a shapeoko for instance.

How about a distribution block that controls the water & the air? That has channels of empty space in the distribution block to control the air flow in & out of the case. The fans could be mounted within the distribution blocks with the fans out of their square housing & mounted in round housing built/cut into the block.
@112Famine

Something I've never seen is a CNC 3D milled distribution shape that takes more than two sheets of acrylic. What I have running around in my head for a few years, popping up now & then is a distribution shape that is part of a dual loop, where lines of the other coolant runs through the other distribution block(s), & the distribution blocks are odd shapes with multiple plates with multiple o-rings. Jigsaw puzzle pieces to fit only that build, that case, with particular components, MB, GPU, PSU, RAM, etc.

Amazing engineering. How long does it take to clean the workshop after milling like this? :) Debris is everywhere. Did you ever try flame polishing the acrylic?
@bittech1
@bittech1 4 жыл бұрын
Takes about 5 minutes haha, I've set the place up to be cleaned very quickly. The sides of the machine have 3D printed guards on them to catch the chips, so most of it ends up on the bed, which I just vacuum up with the extractor. I don't personally like flame polishing, it rounds the edges which doesn't do it for me.

I use Aspire for my cad/cam. It's normally $2500 but I for a few people on ebay selling it for $15. It's not a true 3D but 2.5D is much easier to use in my experience and since it is primarily used for use within routers it has much more intuitive features optimized for routers and has auto roughing, primary cut and clean up pass based on the size of tool you want to use. I have not made a water but I have done a bunch of wood stuff. I am curious if there are reasons not to use thicker acrylic? I just looked at Amazon and 1"/25mm sheets are only about 2x the price. I was thinking or doing a reservoir or even a 2 sided water block with overlapping paths with different colors. I have not seen anything like that yet and think some cool designs could be done that way.

Hello, New subscriber here. Just found your channel with this video. Incredible! I'm not really a PC enthusiast (having only built one recently). I'm more into building hobby robotics. I like using clear plastic in my robots for both aesthetic and practical (visibility) reasons. However I use polycarbonate instead of acrylic mostly for its machining properties - I find it more resistant to shattering when drilling and cutting, and that it's stronger, and easier to thread for bolts. So I have a couple questions. (Please refer me to other videos if you've answered these before.) 1) Do you ever use polycarbonate instead of acrylic? 2) If so, how well does it machine for your purposes? 3) One of the commenters below mentioned flame polishing. Have you ever tried to "acetone polish" the water channels? Thanks for this amazing work. I'll be looking through your stuff.

How much do you reccon it would cost to have this made by someone else? Roughly estimates? Is there some parts of the machining that is more expensive then others, or rather if I design my own distro plate what are things that really ramps up the price? Thanks for a great show? I was quoted 95 euros for one side of a distro pump plate that you made a tutorial of earlier, is that a fair price is is it a rip of?

Have you ever copied the pleix from a retail GPU cooler (example EK) & added in a res pump combo? Either making it longer, or fatter. ...guess if you wanted to you could make one replacement plexi that has the combo res/pump(s) & replacements for both the plexi from the top of the retail CPU & GPU water coolers. Just thinking this if built would only need one tube run, a single loop with the heated water from the chips going to the radiators & returning to the reservoir. ...guess this would look very boring unless you were going for super tiny sff build.

Have you ever considered doing these with no o-ring seal? I mean you could skip all of the bolt holes, all of the o-ring seals, and do nothing more than the fluid areas and then use the same kind of acrylic adhesive that is used to build fish tanks... That would give an even cleaner look

No need, the milling marks are very faint, they're basically only visible when the light catches them. If you mean the sloping sections, personally I prefer the look left by the ball end mill. I did experiment with polishing them out ages back, but the issue is it made the edges look rather tacky, similar to a plastic Christmas ornament, if that makes sense.
