As an englishmen i totally agree. I however think Southgate did brillianty, yes he style of football is boring but where he took us is quite an achivement. Thing is a lot of English people seem to think that it was Southgates fault we havnt won anything, its like they believe a new manager will win the world cup in 2026 playing great football, i think these deluded people are in for a shock. It really dont matter who was manager because the players couldnt string 3 passes together in the final i cant see how a manager has influence over that.

Gary Neville remarked that failure to keep the ball has been the consistent failing of England teams in big games over many years. He said "We didn't keep the ball well enough" could be the title of the book about England. I personally think where Southgate may have gone wrong in the end is trying to shoehorn too many of England's big names into the same team and hoping they will play well enough together, which they didn't. England's biggest names were Kane, Foden and Bellingham, and none had a great tournament.

I agree on the greatness of Bobby Charlton, but England in '66 also had home advantage and a very fortunate goal decision in extra time in the final which swung the game. The '66 tournament was an aberration for England - the same group of players failed to win Euro '68 and went out in the quarterfinals of the 1970 World Cup, which many people said was theoretically a better team than the '66 team.

To be fair, he also knows how to lose a World Cup, as he was part of the 1970 team that got knocked out in the quarterfinals.

@@BC-th3mxreally pal Liverpool in the seventies and eighties were dominated by English clubs especially Liverpool and man United with all uk 🇬🇧 players , also all the other Spanish clubs Madrid Barcelona are full off foreigne players and next year Real Madrid will be all African

@@StarzzyJJASD Even in the '70s and '80s the success of English clubs did not translate to success for the England team. England failed to qualify for the '74 and '78 World Cups, didn't get out of the group stages of '82 and went out in the quarterfinals in '86 (albeit on that occasion to the eventual winners Argentina and the Hand of God). And that's before we even talk about how abysmal England consistently were in the Euros back then.
