The handprints outside the museum are 4 munchkins - Karl Slover, Margaret Pellegrini, Ruth Duccini, and Jerry Maren. So honored to have met all 4 before they passed away. The munchkins got no credit until the 1990s when Oz festivals started inviting them. Such incredible people with amazing stories! Check out Memories of a Munchkin by Meinhardt Raabe. He was the coroner, first Buster Brown, and first to drive the Weiner mobile!

So I always heard tales that a bunch of the munchkin actors grouped up and made a little community near Santa Barbara, CA with houses built more for little people height. Not sure how true that tale was. It's one of those "it was a private community not open to outsiders." Which idk, sounds like a likely description of something that might not exist. But who knows. Figured someone here might validate or discredit the rumor or tale I was told by multiple adults as I grew up in the Hollywood area. (maybe a little of both since it's a KZfaq comment section)

I remember in walmego there used to be an old Dutch windmill at the park and a walmego museum that showcased a few models my great grandfather built from scratch oh and in Manhattan the next city over they had a muffler man that looked like Paul Bunyan. Don't know if all that's still there. Miss Kansas

@@SOUPENE Live in Wamego presently and I can attest that the Windmill is still there. Took some wind damage a few years back but they got it repaired very quick. Want to say Bunyan caused some stir over in Manhattan a while back but I can't remember what it was. Think they were trying to get the story straight or were repainting him. The area between Wamego and Manhattan has changed A LOT in the last ten or fifteen years. Lots of growth and more coming with the opening of NBAF and more industries related to it coming in.

Adam, We've come full circle my friend. The first video I saw of yours was your visit to the old Joyland that is now long gone. Now you have travelled my own Kansas stomping grounds! I do love these lost/small town videos. What stood out to me on this one most was the art. Good, bad, bizarre, that's what art is all about, making you have an opinion on it. And that Oz museum (and subsequently finding the house!)was amazing! I didn't have the highest expectations for it, and it seemed like a great place to stop for any Oz fan 💚

Hah! My boss sent me the video and I wasn't sure why until the "I'm Melting" sign. I work there and maintain what goes up. The time after the 4th of July/Boomtown Fireworks holiday until about the start of school is pretty uneventful so I tend to go between this or "Now Showing, Summer Part 2, The Sweltering." Melting gets more attention from tourists when they come in so I've gone with it more over the years. Maybe I should put it up also for Oztoberfest in the fall. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for coming through town! Couple answers for questions I heard while you were in Wamego: --The Totos are part of a project started a few years ago that gave out 15 or 16 statues to various artists and are scattered throughout town. The "orignal" Toto sits across the street from my sign in the little park. Originally it was supposed to have a Ruby Slipper in it's mouth but the Kansas weather never cooperated. --The Eagle statue you saw after being at the Oz Museum is on top of the Columbian theatre and Art Gallery. Run by the same organization that oversees the museum they put on several community plays/musicals throughout the year. I haven't been in there for some time but they also had artifacts from the 1892 World's Fair where L. Frank Baum got the idea for the Emerald City. If you are ever back through and they are open I'd recommend a stop. --The house with the witches legs used to be called the Chrysler house since it was supposed to have been the childhood home of Walter Chrysler (the man pictured in the front door). It was in town nearer to the river before it was moved out there with the intention of being a visitor's center or something similar (depends on whom you ask). Never have been 100% sure why it never got finished but it works as is.

I shall and I did join you on your adventure through the coll looking places in Kansas, my friend Adam. The wizard of Oz has got to be one of the top favorite in my list of all time greatest movies & musicals of all time. I love Judy Garland. It had a nice cast of good actors & actresses of that time in Hollywood. Dorothy and Toto being my favorite characters in that film along with the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion. I got to go to that museum in person and enjoy all the memories of that iconic film. Thanks again, Adam the Woo! You're great!! 🙏🏼

I live in a small town about 30 minutes from truckhenge and never heard of it. I was born and have lived most of my life here. The only tornado I was involved in was when I was leaving Nashville, TN at the airport. They closed it down and when I was flying out the next day I could see buildings that were blown down! Nice video Adam! I'm glad I found it. I hope you'll come back and do some more!

We have the smaller Judy Garland museum up north in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, where the ruby slippers were infamously stolen. There’s still a horse carriage that was used in the film, among other Judy Garland items. It’s nearby Hibbing, which is Bob Dylan’s hometown (and allegedly, you can get a tour of his home if you ask the owner) and Duluth, of course. Might need to head north when you do Target Field in the future!

Great video, some different that visiting Disney in California and Orlando. The peace and quiet of those small towns and what was once was. I grew up in a small town, and when I visit it now, so little retail is left. The movie theater is now an antique shop and the town once had 2 super markets, car dealer, and now just convenience store/gas station and the ever present Dollar General. I visited the Wizard of Oz museum once while traveling on business and bought a brick painted yellow. Nothing like carrying a heavy yellow brick on a plane, but I have it on display in my living room.

Classic Adam the Woo video. I love it. When your at a place like this especially out in the middle of nowhere, do you sit and think about where your at or think about how they started a place like that truck henge thing and how many people been through it? When I traveled in the past I'd be out in the middle of nowhere and think about where I was just a day or so ago and the miles I put in etc. Sadly I won't be able to travel ever again it's a very hard personal story it's hard for me to talk about but I'm sick. I've been fan of yours for years now and thankfully I've been able to live through you and enjoy your travels. Thank you

Adam I know this is late so you might not see it but there’s another Wizard of Oz museum in Liberal Kansas. I went there as a kid. They have an annual festival there. There’s a yellow brick road and a bunch of props that were in the movie including the model of the family’s house that was used for the tornado scene. If you’re going that way I’d love to see it again as an adult with your spin on it.
