This album juxtaposes the organic with the electronic, and was mostly produced and written by Björk with some help from Mark Bell, Sjón, Howie B, Guy Sigsworth, among others.

Bachelorette is a tango - which in itself makes it absolutely wicked. With most of these Bjork tunes she'll release alternate lyrics on different releases. Some of the bachelorette mixes have different verses. I am jealous of anyone just discovering Bjork and her world.

A journey through the Radiohead discography after this is absolutely obligatory. It’s the most consistent discography of all time, and an essential one to have heard for a music nerd. It also tends to pull a lot of views and help reaction channels build a following ;)

This was her electronic explosion I feel, I love how she incorporates strings so well with it though. All neon like almost always makes me emotional, and all is full of love too, the lyrics are so comforting… btw your new haircut is distracting because you look cuter than usual… also, no matter how much people contextualize it, I will never like this album art haha

the deep meaning of this fabolous string of songs is what makes her to be a goddes of music. How she goes up and down, and go to the top of a mountain and then to the deepest ocean to get calm and meditate about what's going on.

Whoop glad when the alert appeared for this. Also been checking out some of your other reactions. This album was a big change for Björk. People expected more pop and trip hop like Post but she was longing for new things by then. After being in the big cities like London which inspired Post she longed for Iceland and the beats of the land there - Jogá’s beats were recorded from bubbling holes in the ground - true! I love the album cover. It borrowed from cultures showing women in restraint - Japanese subservient kimono wearer, African neck rings, nail like weapons to keep you away but at the same time convey emotion after the bubbly adventures of the city in Post. This album really was a gamble at the time. Who tf would do strings after a pop trip hop album? I remember buying the CD and putting it on… never heard anything like it. I enjoyed your reaction. Especially Jogá and Pluto

"I thought I could organize freedom / How Scandinavian of me" is one of her greatest, most memorable lyrics... and you cut it out. Not Scandinavian, but they are known for their orderly minimalism. Her magnum opus for sure. Not a skippable song on Homogenic (1997). Selmasongs (2000; Soundtrack) comes next followed by the other greatest Bjork album, Vespertine (2001). What an incredible three album stretch from Bjork. Her classic period (1993-2001) will remain my favorite. Fossora (2022) is a great comeback though. She's still got it.

@@luggareviews Glad you enjoyed Bachelorette. It was originally intended for a film and is part of a thematic trilogy with Isobel from Post and Human Behavior from Debut. The surrealist music video is one of Bjork's best and is directed by her frequent collaborator, Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).

This is from 1997!!!! If you research this album it has been so influential on contemporary production. Also, it was inspired by hip hop and then hip hop got inspired by the album. It still sounds so new and fresh. I doubt it will age, it was new at the time and remains new.

@@luggareviews when you say whole discography, I've got to say... omg you kids didn't know about singles, sometimes they were 40 minutes long in the 90s. It's too much! But there's some neat shit if you want to check out some of the B-sides and guest vocals she's done too, some of it's really lovely! but there are millions of them so here's my quick list: Debut: I Remember You which is from the same session as Like Someone In Love. There are some early scraps and flute solos if you really want to poke around. Post: Visur-Vatnsenda Rosu (an Icelandic traditional song written by one of her female ancestors and she sings it like a hymn, basically like nothing else she's ever sung) and a guest spot for Plaid called Lilith which is a hoot, and she does a heavy metal screamo rework of Army of Me with Skunk Anansie that I've always thought was hysterical. Homogenic gives us the beautiful "So Broken", the odd "My Snare/Nature Is Ancient" and the bonkers "Sod Off" Vespertine is absolutely loaded with weirdly high quality extra tracks: Generous Palmstroke, Verandi, Mother Heroic, Foot Soldier, Domestica, and Amphibian. Plus there's a set of 10 Brodksy Quartet string reworks on the Family Tree album, though I'd just say give Hyperballad a look for a taste

@@storageheater thank you very much for this very detailed list! It's just always a question of if I do a video for it and put extra work in it or if I just listen to it myself. In the past I listened to live shows, live albums, b-sides and scraps etc., for myself without doing a video for it. So I will defintely check your stuff out right here :). Thank you again!

@@luggareviews oh! I forgot Charlene and I Go Humble from Post, and the jolly Karvel. And a filthy duet with Steve Coogan called "Short Term Affair" which is criminally overlooked. Her remixes are sometimes interesting too, once she gets past the house diva stage od Debut (which appears to have been somewhat of a compromise with her record label anyway) - Talvin Singh, who arranged the strings on Venus As A Boy and also toured with her, gets her to redo the vocals of Possibly Maybe in an Indian style (the Calcutta Cybercafe mix.) Similarly Plaid, who toured with her for the electronic bits, got the chance to remake and update creaky old Big Time Sensuality in a really lovely way (based off the unplugged version rather than the album version.) There's some fascinating names (and ex boyfriends, and old Sugarcubes members) involved (even if the results aren't *that* special), and quite often it's coming from people she's just worked on the album with, so you get the sense it's really free-flowing and collaborative when she tours and creates. In later years there's a really clear distinction between "albums she's composed as a closed, personal set" and "albums she's wanted everyone to play around with" and I've just always loved how much of her wasn't centred on the album itself. ANYWAY. good luck, have fun lol
