Vespertine is a softer, more effeminate sibling of homogenic. Don't get me wrong I'd give vespertine a 9/10 but it's almost a little bit too twee at times for me to consider it her masterpiece. There are too many songs for one, I think she could've easily cut 2 of the more weaker songs out without compromising the narrative. Homogenic is perfect because of its simplicity! Its simply strings, beats, and voice and all those elements are in striking contrast to one another in the most stunning and unique way which almost became a genre all by itself. Nothing sounded anything like it at the time and although it's had a profound influence on music till this day, nothing has sounded anything like it since. I can't say the same for vespertine, those mircobeats were quite trendy even before vespertine was released. I think she took on too many ideas, too many instrumental combinations and too many songs, which is fine and it works beautifully, but less is more and that's the difference between a brilliant album and a masterpiece. Plus homogenic has aged spectacularly well, better than any other album from the 90s.

@@feli6277 I feel like vespertine is more subtle and experimental for hardcore bjork fans to indulge and go down a rabbit hole, but realistically homogenic is the iconic big album for bjork. I can't even name a big song on vespertine, its almost like the whole album is a big weird song.

@@threedeemelodies Vespertine is pretty bloated and gets boring really fast, riddled with sameness, and the feeling that you've heard these songs before. The music here lacks a major component of Björk's past works : creativity. It's predictable, it lacks substance, but it's nicely coated. It's an album for the new fans, for the masses, for the American market, for people like you.

Great reaction again man. There's an alternative version of All Is Full Of Love that she released alongside the music video. It was more radio/MTV friendly. Worth checking it out at least. Also, TWO Bjork albums before we get "( )" by Sigur Rós? Bruh. At least they were great Bjork albums 😋

All Is Full of Love really closes the album perfectly and it comes after Pluto. It was the calm AFTER the storm which also essentially became the start of Vespertine.

I've listened to Bjork since 1987 and have absorbed a lot of material about her haha. One of my favorites. I remember an interview with her where she talked about how impactful the raw, Icelandic environment was to her. She described going on hikes alone as a young girl and having to sing so loudly over the wind and ambient noises just to hear herself that she was able to explore a wide range of sound without fear of judgement. So when you mention, "sing like no one is watching", she really did just that!

Pluto is the song i use to show Bjork, in spain we like techno so its always a HIT! This is my favourite Bjork album,I like all songs a lot except neon like/immature but for me thare are like 5 10´s. it´s a masterpiece. Hunter, Joga, Unravel, Bachelorette, 5 years, Pluto and All is full of love... BTW check out the single version of AIFOL, its trip hop and the video is very impressive too

I can't believe you didn't like Pluto very much, it's one of their best songs and, above all, its place on the tracklist seems very coherent to me, since everything was built up to that moment of total explosion and then calm came (All is full of love) which serves as an introduction to Vespertine. It is surely a song that will grow on you over time. Anyway I really like the way you express yourself and talk about the production of the songs, even your analysis of the lyrics are quite accurate and interesting.

hey, i just finished watching your video and i can tell you’re pretty good at focusing on the instrumental elements, so i’d love to recommend you listening to any Depeche Mode album pretty much. you’ve probably already heard of them because of the recent trend with Enjoy The Silence or Never Let Me Down Again, but their whole discography is a gem regarding polyrhythmic techniques, lyrical relevance and strong live performance, so i’d be really excited to see you check out any of their music :) even if you want any specific recommendations, i’ll be glad to help.

This album is one of my absolute favorites, I know she worked very closely with Markus Dravs on it, an audio engineer who did drum beats (including the drums on 5 years, my favorite drums on the albums also!) Here's my narrowed down list of accessible favs from these 2 decades (from an indie and alt-rock fan) 90's Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream, Mellon Collie... Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin Mr. Bungle - California Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump* Modest Mouse - Lonesome Crowded West Radiohead - OK Computer Built to Spill - Perfect from Now On* Pixies - Doolittle Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea* Pavement - (Any Album) Beulah - When Your Heartstrings Break* 00's Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - (self titled) Gorillaz - Demon Days Arcade Fire - Funeral Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?* Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary* Destroyer - Destroyer's Rubies Evangelicals - The Evening Descends* Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood* Radiohead - In Rainbows Metric - Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it In People

Definitely my favorite Bjork album. It's the first one I ever heard back in the 90s and to this day, I keep it in constant rotation. "Joga" is by far my favorite track. My favorite lyrics, though, are from "Hunter" where she says "I thought I could organize freedom. How Scandinavian of me." That is just so cheeky, and I love it!

Nice job 👏👏. I would highly recommend listening to the rest of her Discography in chronological order. Her evolution (music/writing/ production/arrangements/ideas) are better appreciated . Imho. This album started to incorporate the early ideas of Micro beats ,that she perfected in Vespertine. This album was inspired by her time living in London and the underground Rave/EDM Scene . She recruited Tricky (from Prodigy) to help her produce this album , which if not mistaken she mainly recorded it in Spain. Joga (Yoga) was inspired by her good friend /Masseuse. Finally just like any Bjork Project , The Album is only half of the Experience. WATCH the music videos for each Album 😉🤯🤯💯💖

Her BEST album!!! No doubt, she has always created GREAT music and visuals!!!! But Homogenic changed the game!!!!! Radiohead, Missy Elliot, and Christina Aguilera, just to name a few have Praised Bjork and especially Homogenic!!!! So you can see the diversity of Bjork's influence.... she has inspired everyone!!!! From producers, to vocalists, to lyricists, to visual artists, etc..... She has been the template!!!!!!! The reason why she is not "popular" is because if the world knew about all she's done, all of today's people in music would have to admit they have been inspired by Bjork... but they can't say it because they all now, pretend to be "original"
