Black Ballerina, Kamala McDaniels, brings traffic to a halt in NYC!

Ballerina Kamala Saara McDaniels shows off her skills in SoHo, NYC during shoot with Vas Jones. You can check out more from this talented dancer on her Instagram ( kamalatte)
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Kamala loved moving her body naturally to the sound of all types of music. Her parents decided to enroll her in Modern and Hip-hop classes at 4 years old. Soon, at 8 years of age, Kamala started strict ballet training at the Yuri Grigoriev School of Ballet. Competing and performing in competitions and yearly recitals/showings. After Kamala’s teacher, Yuri Grigoriev, passed away when she was only 15, Kamala started attending Bolshoi Ballet Academy’s summer intensives in New York. The years 2017 and 2018, Kamala was awarded 1st place at the end of the intensive and a full scholarship to train and perform for two weeks in Moscow, Russia.
Falling in love with New York City, Kamala left her family to live in New York being only 16 years young. She trained at Vassiliev Academy of Classical Ballet for 6 months and in 2019, Kamala received a full scholarship to the School of American Ballet Winter Term program.

Shes a ballerina... Not a black ballerina.if it were a white ballerina she would just be a ballerina not a white ballerina

its funny you say that, whenever im lead me being black is the only thing acknowledged not my skill. ANYWAYS as a former black ballerina who has been discriminated against in this industry & having people go crazy when im lead, literally b/c im black as if i didnt earn it & witnessing black girls turned away from parts b/c of not "having the aesthetic" her being black MOST DEFINITLY needs to be pointed out. The reality is people dont want to see ballet from a black person & white people will never understand or from a fat women. you clearly have no experience in this industry so please stop talking

@@magentalags2997well that’s the point. for years, when people heard the word “ballerina” or “ballet” they would only think it to be a white or european woman (or man). saying she is a black ballerina allows for a clear distinction that she is black AND a ballerina, and that those two identities can coexist as one.

Why are you acting naive? They most likely used black woman as ballet is typically associated with white/fair skin/European women majority of the time.

Why is it "black" ballerina? I'm no sjw type, but if she was caucasian would the title be "white" ballerina?

It’s because there aren’t a lot of black ballerinas and someone could be searching for someone who looks like them because their is a lot of white ballerinas in the ballet industry.

In this case her race/ethnicity is relevant because non-white people have historically been discriminated against heavily in this industry. That’s why her being a successful ballerina as a black woman is significant, and something to be noted.

No it would not because WHITE ballerinas dominate the industry. If you took your head out your a** for once and recognized the INSANE privilege and attention white people get over people of color, YOU’D know this girl is one of the few black women breaking barriers in that industry. Now go pull that race card ELSEWHERE.
