Title Match Network is proud to present our 1st interview for 2020. Black Bart is a former WCCW Champion (World Class Championship Wrestling), NWA Wrestling National Heavyweight Champion, multi-time Brass Knucks champ & tag team champ with Ron Bass. This 3-hour interview was conduced by Title Match Network in Weatherford, Texas just outside of Dallas.
Here we discuss with Black Bart about the hellacious matches he had against both Barry Windham and his father, Blackjack Mulligan. For newer fans, Blackjack Mulligan is the grandfather of WWE Superstars Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas. Barry Windham is their uncle.
Throughout CWF in 1984 (Championship Wrestling from Florida) Black Bart and Barry Windham had some wars including brass knuckles, texas bullrope and taped fist matches. They would continue their feud later in UWF during 1987.
Bart and Blackjack Mulligan also had many brutal encounters inside cages, on opposing teams and in specialty matches like bunkhouse and brass knuckles matches.
Black Bart also remembers the time when Barry Windham and Billy Jack Haynes got into a vicious backstage brawl. Find out what went down and what Blackjack's reaction was when he walked in.

My ALL TIME favorite. Used to go to the West Palm Beach Auditorium every Monday night. His matches against Race, Flair, Jake Roberts, Kevin Sullivan & Ron Bass will always be stuck in my memory.

I believe Billy Jack had already approached Mulligan about his issues with Barry and he told him that he was his own man in so many words. That's what I remember from one of Billy Jack's shoots.

Brickhouse Brown told the story better than Bart because he was there for the whole fight, he said Mike Rotunda tried to jump Billy Jack from behind while he was hammer fisting Barry, but Billy Jack turned and saw him coming and when he jumped up, Rotunda immediately turned and ran from the building😂😂😂

Before Blackjack died Barry would not even go visit him...not sure what the problem between them was but its a sad story to say the least. A good friend of mine, Eddie Chestlock spent a lot of time with Blackjack in his final days and ended up getting the whole outfit that Blackjack wore in the ring during his heyday. He said he was one of the nicest guys he ever hung around in all his years of taking wrestling pics. ( Eddie is the man that took the famous photo of the Four Horsemen with their hands crossed over each other)

Yeah. Florida championship wrestling. There were some good feuds going back then. Black Bart was a great heel and perfect for Florida in those days. A lot of great heels getting tons of heat in that territory. Kevin Sullivan was my favorite. His whole angle kept the area hot.

I wrestled for 17 years. And know the business pretty well. That was between Barry and Billy. It had nothing to with him. Now if it would of been 3 or 2 on Barry. Or Barry was beat down. Then I am sure he would of gotten involved. But a fight between the boys is settled between the boys straight up.

Barry was the Windowmaker and the Stalker. Also, he was not in the version of the 4 Horsemen. The Originals were Flair, Ole, Arn and Tully. Berry did join later on.

Here's the timeline because I read the PWI mags religiously during this time and was a huge Windham and Rotundo fan. They were a great tag team . 1984 Windham and Rotundo leave Florida with Dusty for Crockets 1984 Windham gets low payoff from Crockett and heads with Rotundo where they win tag titles. 1985 Windham is burned out from WWF travel schedule and heads back to Florida. 1986 Windham ends up back in NWA originally as face and ends up in as Lugers replacement in Four Horseman in what was probably best and most talented version Flair Windham Arn and Tully. The years might not be totally exact but this was the timeline of Barry going from Florida to Crockett to WWF to Florida to Crockett

I still have some mags kicking around from that era. I'd buy Inside Wrestling, The Wrestler and Pro Wrestling Illustrated every month. To add to your timeline... Barry went back to Crockett in 1987 I think it was and did 60 and 90 minute matches with Flair. 1988 was the heel turn on Lugar while they were NWA tag team champions where Windham joined the Horsemen. Going by memory. Not by Google or mags. Might be slightly off.

Shhhiiitt ! Barry did a lot of great stuff after Florida and Carolina ! You mentioned U.S. Express and 4 Horseman , but that went from mid 80s to early 90s ! Thats my fave Horseman group was with Barry . And his matches with Flair were great , also his stuff against Midnight Express ! Barry should and could have been way bigger ! He kept jumping around tho . WWF/E did him no favors . Me myself did like the New Blackjacks !

Billy apparently actually got the ok from Mulligan on this and he said Barry is a grown man now and he can fend for himself.Cantcrecall what Barry kept doing with Billy but he wouldn't cut the shit even after Billy told him several times. Thats what I heard. Maybe goes back to putting Billy's hat in the toilet.I live in Washington(the real Washington as in Seattle,Aberdeen,Spokane) & up here and in Oregon and Idaho etc,everyone understands that a woodsman,a logger,they wear these hats,they wear felt hats to keep out the rain,loggers setting chokers or whatever all day in the rain, and those felt hats if you wear good rain gear you will stay dry as a bone like u been inside all day...anyway,no one cares for a guy fucking with his hat he wears for that...particularly getting it soaking wet or muddy in a mud puddle etc...moreso not wanting it all wet and shitty...which is what Barry did throwing that hat in the toilet apparently

Barry is about 360 lbs now . Big .Barry Windham did not take the business seriously . He could have been the face of Southern Wrestling instead of Flair but he did not want to do the things Ric did just to keep his spot .

Ok, I can't take it ! I've really been enjoying the Shoot interviews with Bart. I've enjoyed him throughout the years...but his memory is off somewhat. After Barry left Florida he went to the WWF and had a great run as the U.S. EXPRESS with Mike Rotunda. Barry then did World Championship wrestling, and did well. They merged with WATTS organization and put the Western States Heritage belt on him. He's been a HORSEMEN, U.S. Champion, TV Champion, etc. WWF again, World Championship wrestling again....,he was consistent. I heard and read that Windham didn't go further because he didn't want to. Please correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm a old fan from the 70's who's memories might be cloudy ? Great series though. Be well...JB

I'm just guessing but Bart was part of that class action suit against the WWE, so, WWE probably won't honor Bart or anyone part of that suit. It was dismissed.

Barry Windham’s WWE run as the “Widowmaker” was way too short. Windham was one of those performers who was much better off working in the mid-sized territories than he was working for McMahon’s “campy, gimmicky” WWE promotion of the 1980s.

I think around the time Barry was the Widowmaker, that was when his dad & brother were busted for counterfeiting. Barry had nothing to do with it, but still had the Treasury department hounding him. So Barry quit wwf to avoid any possible bad publicity.

Yep. They used the Midnight Rider gimmick from CWF in JCP later and The Yellow Dog gimmick again a few years later, but it was Pillman the 2nd time..Dusty went back to his old bag of tricks

I don't because many other wrestlers have verified this story. In fact, Billy Jack told Mulligan that he was going to whip his boy's rear-end and that if he tried to stop it that he would whip Mulligan's too. Billy Jack told Mulligan that Barry and rotundo where giving him a hard time and he was going to whoop Barry's ass and he wanted to know if Mulligan was going to get involved.......Respect! Mulligan told him Barry's a big boy in other words a man can make his own decisions. Theres no way Mulligan walked in and witnessed Billy Jack ramming Barry's head into a sink and just sat down because he was afraid of Haynes........Get real man.
