This is the last episode of this black duck series. In this video Im showing how I go about attaching the bird to the scenery and securing it so it doesnt go anywhere. The compound Im using to represent the dirt is made of Elmer's white glue, dirt, potting soil, a little plaster powder and of course with some water... You can mix these and come up with your own consistency so you can apply it on your scenery..
Please leave your questions in the comment area. Thanks for watching.
cheers

You always have to put the bird in the tanning with cold or better warm water, thanks
@ArtofTaxidermy
@ArtofTaxidermy 3 жыл бұрын
Lukewarm is usually better since it works quicker. You can use cold water ( I have used it before) it won’t hurt anything it might take a bit longer on larger birds. Try your partridge with cold water next time just make sure to dissolve the chemicals really good because it’s cold it will be slower.

Do you do anything to your driftwood to treat it? Like bleach water, power wash Ect… or just hose it off and let it sit in the sun a while.

Thank you Ben! Your tricks will be saving me time and making me more money! And less gray hairs LOL. Appreciate the tip on bending the grass against a countertop, never used three wires to secure, now I will! You are a plethora of knowledge. Thank you for sharing. Question, just a couple rows of wood glue underneath the clay? I noticed you did not brush it out or even cover the whole base under the clay. I have never used clay like this before always use that Rising foam. Which is more of a mess and hassle. Can't wait to try your clay trick, I just can't imagine the clay not popping off the base through that trip all the way to Florida! Thx Mr. BEN Mike Bieda Buckeye, AZ

You are welcome Michael. I’m glad you like the tips. I sometimes put a few beads of wood glue under the clay and then squeeze it out by pushing down the clay and sometimes I spray water diluted wood glue on the whole area. Both works . The wood glue is water base and clay is water base do both will bind and dry really good. The glue under the clay and also roughed up surface on the walnut base itself helps creating a good bond. I have used some riding foam too but on certain sceneries. They are messy and expensive.

Hello, nice work! I found a dead sparrow in may yard and was wondering if I can use salt and tide detergent because borax is not allowed in my country is that okay and will it work ? Thanks in advance
@ArtofTaxidermy
@ArtofTaxidermy 3 жыл бұрын
Sparrow is very small , you really have nothing to worry about. Just clean the skin and wash it you are good to go. Don’t use salt it will dry out and makes the skin shrink too bad. Just skin the sparrow wash it , dry it and mount it. Nothing will happen.

@@ArtofTaxidermy thank you so much! Should I put salt in the skull to absorb any moisture that I cannot reach ?
@ArtofTaxidermy
@ArtofTaxidermy 3 жыл бұрын
Not necessary. Use a Qtip and swap inside the skull or push some cotton and swap it around to clean everything out.

@@ArtofTaxidermy hi the end of the previous video of carding and pinning . Just wanting a little info on what is the purpose of pinning the wings etc and what did you spray the duck with once pinned how long does it take to dry. I think you skipped this step between this video and the previous one Thanks again your video are amazing keep it up
@ArtofTaxidermy
@ArtofTaxidermy 3 жыл бұрын
Oh I see. Once the bird mounted the skin is so pliable and soft. And all feathers need to stay in the right place… by pinning you keep the feathers and skin placed in the right area while they dry out. Which can take about 1 to 4 weeks in different climate for different birds. Once they are dry we remove all the pins and tapes.
@boxz12
@boxz12 3 жыл бұрын
@@ArtofTaxidermy thanks for your reply . So your just drying the bird out from it's natural moisture . Not using a glue or anything like that. ?
