This cake forest started off as 7.5lbs of my Ultimate Chocolate cake, soaked in cherry Simple Syrup and stacked together with ganache, chocolate, and plain buttercream, layered with cherry jam and fresh cherries. Stanzi's house I know this is weird, but I always smell a book before I get it. I smell them to check if it will be good or not. If it smelled good I know I'll enjoy it, but if I don't like the smell I won't even go past the cover. I know that is weird but it has always worked for me, I've never had a good book that didn't smell good. So I'm literally Yolanda when she was pretending she was in the book store!

I love how books smell omg. Especially a new book! One of the reasons why I prefer books over ebooks. Unfortunately I have to settle for ebooks because I live in a tiny apartment with no space for books.

Hi Yolanda! As you know, the Black Forest cake originated in Germany and I work at a traditional bakery in Northern Germany (not very close to the Black Forest, but i‘d still call our cake pretty authentic). We actually have a very similar technique with piping rings of whipped cream, a cooked cherry filling and chocolate whipped cream (which is not the same as ganache, it‘s melted chocolate that’s folded into chilled whipped cream)! We use chocolate sponge cakes and soak them with kirsch (it‘s Kirschwasser in Germany, Kirsche = Cherry) and then we cover the cake with whipped cream and top it with chocolate shavings and fresh or canned cherries depending on the time of the year. So yeah I loved to see your take on this delicious classic. Greetings from Germany 😊
