Join me for a hike in the Peak District starting from Crowden and Rising up to Black Hill (Soldier's Lump) before picking up the Pennine Way and skiirting round via Laddow Rocks before dropping down to our start point. The walk is around 16 or 17km (around 10 miles) and does have some sections that can be tricky to navigate, particularly in poor weather.
If you need the map it is OS Landranger - OL1 - The Dark Peak - amzn.to/2DvDpt6

Hello Des, great looking walk and a beautiful place, we are very envious of this! Thanks for taking us along with you,we too prefer a slow and steady climb, but sometimes you cant avoid a steep up! Hope you were not to poorly with your head cold, catch you soon, Ceri and Kat ❤☕🤗⛰

Hi Ceri & Kat! The cold has been hiked into submission! 😁 Amazing what a bit of fresh air can do! Whichever way you do this circuit, it starts off steep. But definitely a walk that rewards the effort. Hope you are both keeping well👍

Black Hill and adjacent are where a fair bit of my early hiking days as a lad were spent. With the paving and splendid vegetation restoration, the summit plateau is very pleasant these days. It was like the Somme in the 1980s! Great film Des of a special area. Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris. Yes, it was very tricky to navigate the area back then. You still need to watch your step now in places 😁 But if they'd left it without intervention, who knows what would be left of it by now. Huge thumbs up to the people who carry out the work!👍

By ‘eck Des! You’re taking back to my youth club days with this walk! Life was obviously in black & white back then. I think one of our first youth club hikes was in the Crowden area which is why it always takes me back to that. What a glorious day you had for it. I could almost smell the peat and the fresh air. We watch KZfaq on the telly so we got the full impact of those views. 😍 We loved this video. Keep ‘em coming! Don 👍

Glad it brought back memories 😁 Of course, Black Hill was properly black when we were younger! Much less exposed peat now. A great walk on a lovely day though! Thanks for watching👍

Yes, all peat bog land now. It would have been heavily forested at some time in history. More of the peat used to be exposed (hence the name Black Hill) but they are now using grasses to try and prevent erosion. Thanks for watching👍

A grand day there for a great walk Des. I loved seeing those views from Laddow rocks. I nearly lost a boot in a bog the first time I walked on Tolleyshaw moor. Luckily I managed to did it out to avoid having to walk the last 2 miles with only one shoe!

I like an early start too and have to say the sky looked amazing, I would have loved to have photographed that. Looks like you got the benefits of the early start as it looked deserted but what a sad story of the plane crash ☹. Stunning views from the top and what a perfect spot for lunch, despite it still being early - I can eat at any time😂. Nice to get out on a proper hike again Des, I'll bet, cheers Alan
@DesGreene
@DesGreene 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan! Yes, it has been so great to get out again 😁 Sadly, the Derbyshire Peak District is liberally dotted with crash sites. In the past, with low cloud it would have been a real nightmare to navigate. I'm not naturally an early riser, hence I give myself a big pat on the back when I do drag my lazy @rse out of bed 😁 Thanks for watching mate, really appreciate it!👍

Such a great route. Did it during the summer last year but had very claggy weather for our jaunt. Still an incredible experience as it's so atmospheric up there when the cloud is sat so low. The rocks marked as 'castles' on the map are known as Crowden Castles I believe.

Hello K-Granny! This walk was only last week. Not very Spring-like is it? 😁 It is a very harsh windy environment up there, and I don't think it every looks very green. The dryness is quite misleading, as underneath the grass it is very wet and boggy. Thanks very much for watching! I hope you are keeping safe and well👍👍
