great lesson, actually the best I have seen on youtube for this subject. when you do "4s": do you put more emphasize on the first downstroke ( like playing iit louder, stronger downstroke ...) ? some are teaching this method, because so you know, when you do many 4s one after another (often the same note) , you always know, when a new 4s group starts. otherwise it is just a endless row of the same note, without any system. One time you play this part with 20 notes, next you play it with 23 notes ( if the song requires 5 x4s).counting your notes a tthe speed is impossible . Thanks !
@user-po8ot3db2w8 жыл бұрын
+DragonBolo Hi, I understand what your saying and I've heard several guitarist reccomend this approach, including Mr Petrucci. However, I would not recommend approaching this thought as being the "correct" way to play tremolo. In genres like metal, especially a lot of modern metal, tremolo is sometimes used to create ambiance to create a base for harmonies and what not. In cases like this you actually *would* want a droney sound without structure instead of a highly structured sound that emphasising the 1st stroke of every beat would give. If your tremolo picking is at the forefront of the song structure, like in some death metal songs, then the more structured approach would make sense. Ultimately its all about what is correct to the ear, not what makes sense while practicing.

Some days are better than others with tremolo picking. If you have any ideas or advice on what i should do that would awesome, cheers dude.

Hey simon! Great vid by the way. I've watched probably 3-4x as I'm am trying to learn how to be trem pick since I really struggle with the tech.. I have a question you may be able to answer. Is there a difference in tech required for the speed of tech death that black metal does not use? It looks extremely difficult to play at that level to me :(
