Black Mountain was originally known as Grey Eagle to the Cherokee and Catawba Native Americans who lived and hunted here in great numbers. Early settlers of the area were lured by the adventure and rugged beauty of the surrounding mountains. The Town of Black Mountain was founded in 1893.

I was kindly hosted for about a month by Carol and her husband who was a chiropractor/physical therapist. It's a beautiful authentic town and very welcoming. At the entrance to B. Mountain was a large repurposed house which sold lots of good organic produce. Town was quaint and full of small shops and small restaurants...you seemed to have found more thing than I did. I love their public library.

I visited this area back in late 2019 and fell in love with it! I remember Lake Tomahawk and we walked all around that lake! I'm getting ready to relocate and researching now these areas! BM is where I'd love to be in November of this year! Thank you for this!

We've stayed in Black Mountain many times over 15-20 years. Three of the big Bed & Breakfasts were purchased and no longer exist. The Red Rocker remains, but the owners sold out in 2023. The new owners are now trading on the Red Rocker's good reputation, but they have removed some of the perks, especially the well-known Breakfast Buffet (the main reason for staying there). The breakfast menu for guests is included with the room now, but I had to send mine back to the kitchen twice in 3 days. Their rates are way up, too. And raising their rates, a lot. There is no longer a reason to stay there

I grew up in south Asheville near the airport. That house is actually on the flight path! (In a certain direction. ;) ) I knew the original owners of the Monte Vista. I was allowed, once, to see their model train set that was built in the basement. It's been removed, unfortunately. I have always enjoyed Black Mountain. Such a neat place.

The Seven Sisters mountains he points out are the Swannanoa Mountain range. The Seven Sisters range is behind him and is the ridge where the Blue Ridge Parkway runs. The town isn't "touristy" although it has hosted tourists since its inception in the 1700s. The town is filled with stores and galleries that support regional and local artists, amazing restaurants with an international flavor, and lots of hiking.

It is "touristy" in the Fall, but all of the NC mountains are touristy at the same time. Asheville has been ruined by Covid, a progressive govt, and big corporations buying out small business, and building big high-rises, fancy shops and bars, all over town. The "Paris of America" is gone.

Did they have any shop’s with handmade mountain crafts - made by local people - people that were born and raised in the area - seems like it’s just stuff and people from other areas of the country - with no local culture - Sad very sad - looks like it’s going down the tube of rich city people - moving in - want be small town very long - Lots of high prices - cutting locals out - sad - I still like the area - but - it has changed so so much - very Sad
