Notes: Although Ed Boon is listed on the playfield, according to Louis Koziarz, Ed was doing video at Midway (Mortal Kombat) when this game was created.
Designer John Trudeau said the backglass art contains likenesses of himself and artists Greg Freres and Pat McMahon.
According to the book Pinball Memories, artist Pat McMahon created X-rated artwork for a version of backglass intended for an interested European market. The glass was never produced. Additionally, Bally had considered using black pinballs, but had to abandon the idea.
For trademark clarification, note that this game has no connection to Black Rose Production Inc., and no music written by any of its artists was used in this game's production. According to this game's flyer, "BLACK ROSE" is a trademark of Midway Manufacturing Company. "BLACK ROSE" is also a registered trademark of Tito Batista of Black Rose Productions, Inc. as per USPTO registration no. 1,214,374 dated Oct. 1982.

This was an excellent restore video. It makes me excited to get into pinball repair myself. I'm planning to buy my own 1st pinball machine soon and these types of videos are a great resource for restore fanatics.

Ya know for me I would say going through a machine and restoring it would be lots of fun. Playing it would be fun too but for me I get more enjoyment making things work as they should. Your right about not lubricating plastic and metal mating parts because the plastic itself acts as a lubricant and is also an inexpensive wear item. I would imagine that each manufacture of those pinball machines repurposes similar components across all their machines because building new molds to manufacture different parts can get rather expensive. So if you can use common components then you can literally mold endless amounts of parts and all you have to do is maintain the mold and of course I am referring to plastic components.

You are absolutely right, it IS a lot off fun to restore, give pinball machines new life again, and get an amazing game experience 🤩 Unfortunately the lubrication is seen very, very often in these old machines, wd40 everywhere old crusry oil/grease, not easy to clean, I prefer replacing the parts. Compared to pinball machine prices, prices for the parts is really cheap😊 Mr. B, thanks for watching my pinball videoes also, I know this is not your hobby, but I really appreciate your support 🙏🏼🙏🏼😊😊

This is very similar to what I'm starting with.. not as hard worked or dirty but missing posts next to broadside and bumpers and skillshot etc. Every nut I try to take off unscrews the post from the board because they get hammered and no one ever tightens them. I have had to glue wedge dowels into maybe 20 holes. Replace screw in posts with through board "nut on the back" star post screws in those hard working spots. This is not a refurb for the feint of heart. (Kinda wish I bought that spotless Wheel of fortune instead)

Man! What an awesome game! I’ve not played it before but it looks so much fun. Love these fast flowing Williams games. You did a great job cleaning it up. Now I feel like I need to add this to my wanted list 😁👍🏼

how did you decide what to put next to that star post between the bumpers?.. the manual playfield diagram shows only the star post on the rubber parts list. However.. my PF also has a giant mangled hole i filled where you put that small metal post, and the mylar has been cut around it making me think something does belong there. I was going to put a second star post and a 3/4" ring around both of them. (also you are correct , rubber parts list shows a metal post in that screw hole that secures the shooter lane one way gate)

I got some time yesterday and leveled the cannon- It was a little tricky to get to the allen screws- here is what I did- 1) attached vice grip to the actual adjustment (round cylinder) held vice grip so the cylinder wound not spin, and loosened the large nut below with a wrench while holding the cylinder in place 2) loosened the lock nuts with a hex driver 3) after I had everything loose I rotated the cylinder to level the cannon, I would then lower the playfield and make a "practice run" until it felt level and right- 4) tightened up the lock screws in each cylinder and all 3 nuts- My game plays 100 times better now- no more ball skipping and flying off the cannon!

When I push the flipper button the machine resets every time . How can I fix this. Yes , I've played a lot of the Bally and Williams Pinballs, and I still love my Black Rose. If I can fix this reset problem , I'm going to completly restore it. Art work is still perfect after 30 years. Please help. Thanks

You have to replace bridges and caps on the driver board. Or buy a no reset board from pin sound
