Rock critics were so snotty in the 70's that any band that became super-popular without their help was going to get blasted, especially hard rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Sabbath. This album is so awesome, you wouldn't have Metallica, Pantera and most of Seattle grunge without Sabbath's influence. And while they made many great albums after, I dont think they topped it.

The time limit for discussion about favourites, ended many decades ago. This was supposed to be a review but the presenter just told us gossip instead. Each version of the ford mustang car IS unique. We're here to find out what's different about this unique version of the ford mustang car. I know some people like ford mustang wheels and other people don't. Each time the ford mustang car IS released, its got a different SOUND. Ford keeps CHANGING the sound. Each time paranoid is offered for sale, black Sabbath has built a new sound for it.They change the artwork. They redo the colours. You're only familiar with 1 ford mustang car. You haven't driven all the ford mustang cars.

@@zorafilms we need to stop gossipping and realize black Sabbath paranoid is a product just like ford mustang is a product. Each version of ford mustang is unique. Each version of black Sabbath paranoid is unique too. If you own paranoid 1970, you Don't Own paranoid 2015. You've never experienced paranoid 2015. You don't know what sounds paranoid 2015 makes. If you own ford mustang 1968, you don't own ford mustang 2020. Ford mustang 2020 is completely different to ford mustang 1968. Music buyers are EXTREMELY CHILDISH. Car buyers are WAY ahead of you. Your gossip is wasting our lives.

While I do like the song, it had a very odd placement on the record in my opinion. Going from paranoid to planet caravan to iron man feels a little off to me. Now, I don’t know a thing about track sequencing, but I think it would’ve been better as the last A-side track.

My older brother brought this home when it first came out. My father grabbed it away and opened up the gatefold, smirked, gaffawed and said to my Mom, "Hey, Barb, listen to some of these titles: "War Pigs".... "Electric Funeral" what's this?... "*Fairies Wear Boots*"??!!" I knew then it was an album to listen to. I did and it affected me to this very day some 44 years later. I took it to my elementary school dance, and they confiscated it. That pissed my brother off to no end!! "Planet Caravan" is the first example - that I can recall off the top of my head - of vocals being run through a Leslie Cabinet. The album scared the hell out of us kids; I can only imagine what it did to our parents.

+Vinyl Rewind It was customary for the grade sixers to bring music to the grad dance. I was on thin ice already for bringing in *Revolver* and playing "Tomorrow Never Knows" for my classmates. Twelve seconds into "War Pigs", the principal took the tone arm and made that "Zipping" sound you hear on some many of today's movie trailers. I was a straight A student, so I think it fucked the faculty up. I was sent to see the school councilor for that. I saw him earlier in the year for describing Monty Python's Flying Circus to my fellow students. This was 1971 after all.

I saw one in 1978 and now I know everything about all Porsche 911 cars. I saw 911 once and that makes me a Porsche 911 car expert. Porsche 911 THAT'S a Vietnam era car. Arrrh, this product wasn't in existence prior to its 2000 something release date. The 1970's product isn't this product. This 2000's product isn't the 1970's product. And now black Sabbath paranoid has been redesigned just like ford mustang car get re-built. There's An all new 2015 version of black Sabbath paranoid. Just like there's a 2015 version of ford mustang cars. SO, this seminal album you don't own and haven't heard before now. Its not the 1970's product. Its not the 2015 version either. Its not the CD version. Its not the CD version from 2000 either. Its not the 50th anniversary CD version either.

+Vinyl Rewind You are still young and has so much to learn. But I really like your reviews dude. So honest and excited. Black Sabbath got back to the studio to record Paranoid album very soon because the record company/management saw how much the first album sold. And the guys in the band did not have a clue on the business side of stuff. And when Black Sabbath released the first album, they was supposed to tour America. But the tour got cancelled/delayed because of the Manson trial. Somehow people in the North American label was afraid of the 'connection'....that was never there. So tour delayed, let's throw them back into the studio....The album cover artwork is strange indeed, because the album was originally titled War Pigs. That's why there is a 'warrior' on the album cover. But again, the North American refused to let the album title be War Pigs (cause of the Vietnam war). The front artwork was already finished, so they did not have time to change the artwork when the record was re-titled to Paranoid. Thanx for being cool man, keep it up! Respect.

So sorry to wake you but you're wrong. This 2000 era product isn't the 1970's product. Do you understand the 2000 era ford mustang car isn't the 1970 ford mustang car? Black Sabbath has been redesigning and rebuilding paranoid for many decades just like ford does with their mustang car. I feel sorry for you cause you've wasted all those years driving around 1 version of black Sabbath paranoid. You think you're an expert with only 1 version out of a possible 30,000 versions. Ford mustang has over 3 million versions of their car. Why wouldn't black Sabbath copy ford? Of course black Sabbath copy ford mustang. Every ford mustang is unique. Every black Sabbath paranoid is unique too.

The guitar solo on Paranoid uses a ring modulator effect, which is essentially detunes the signal then distorts it. I believe this is done post production as it is panned on the other channel, This album to this day has been so misunderstood but there are so many positive messages in the album,

i'm not so sure about that luke's wall story. i do know though, that early on, the u.s. record companies, wanted to artificially "add songs" by adding song titles to the albums, so it looked like the record had more material than it did, creating better "value" for the american consumer. (so dumb) they did this on a few of the early albums. on their debut: "wasp"/behind the wall of sleep/"bassically"/N.I.B., and "a bit of finger"/sleeping village/warning. then, war pigs/"luke's wall", and "jack the stripper"/fairies wear boots, on paranoid. on master of reality, the record company really did it up: after forever "(including the elegy)", children of the grave/"the haunting", "step up"/lord of this world, and "deathmask"/into the void. very strange. vol 4: wheels of confusion/"the straightener", and under the sun/"every day comes and goes". so, i just think the additional, artificially added titles, are just made up by the record execs, basically off the top of their heads, without much meaning at all behind them. i could be wrong, but i am pretty certain the execs came up with those, for dumb reasons.

While his soul leaves the earth, he can see how small and insignificant our planet is and how we are losing our chance of enhancing the human race (Planet Caravan)

VG--how could you not comment on "Space Caravan!" It's actually (gulp) tasteful, and showed what Iommi could do without distortion and repetitive riffs. Also, "Fairies" showed a more playful side, yet with plenty of hard charging metal riffs. Finally, I agree with you about Bill Ward, at least, not getting the love he should, and Rat Salad's a great example. But, thanks for doing the review--always enjoy them. Y'know who I'd love you to get to know and review is The Move and Roy Wood, fellow Brummies with Sabbath (and, in fact, the Move's drummer, Bev Bevan, took over from Ward briefly.)

The interpretation of Iron Man is not quite that simple. It leaves a bit to the imagination, but it seems to be about someone who travels back in time from the future to warn people of a pending apocalypse, but he gets messed up by the time travel and then ignored and outcast by the people he travelled back in time to warn. This turns him against them and so he ends up killing them all, thus causing the apocalypse he was originally trying to prevent!

In Iron Man not only did he get sent to the future to witness the death and destruction of mankind, but when he was sent back his skin was turned to iron and he became a walking war machine. When he could not speak and couldn’t warn people of the coming apocalypse, they laughed and made fun of him until he snapped and became the destruction and death of mankind. Also warpigs, rhythmically, is war. From the slow build up to the first battle. And then the chaos of the war itself. I love black sabbath.
