I am related to Maria Hallett. My father's family is from Barnstable and has lived there since 1627. At one time the town of Barnstable produced most of the ships in the British Royal Navy making it an incredibly important location during the years preceding the American Revolution. The strategic value cannot be overstated. Specifically this was in the village of Centerville. There is almost no sign of this activity these days as the ship building coastline is now a resort area. Barnstable is the town where the village of Hyannisport is located famous for being president Kennedy's summer home.

Maybe he just likes the outfit... I have 4 same t-shirts and 3 same pairs of pants. My friends started making fun of me never changing clothes until I showed them. Now they just think I'm weird for doing it. The simple explanation is - I found the most comfortable combination and I can't decide what to wear, so I don't. I don't like wasting my time on that or being uncomfortable. I usually set up everything in my life to my liking and I don't go out of routine much. I like it that way.

Mary Hallett was born in Barnstable in 1698, the daughter of John Hallett and Elizabeth Bellamy. She was Samuel Bellamy's first cousin. Her son, Samuel died as a baby in 1716 in Eastham in the then village of Wellfleet. She died in 1746 at the age of 48. She never married and since she had the child out of wedlock she was exiled to the dunes where she offered her services as a healer to those who could not afford a doctor. She became well known among seamen who needed to be healed of a disease or patched up after an injury. She eventually amassed a decent amount of money and rumors began to spread that Bellamy had given her some of his vast fortune before he died. Her reputation as a witch was the result of local ministers calling her that because they called any woman who did not go to church or who had a child out of wedlock that and similar insults. There was also a folk tail that all the men who washed up on that shore were her victims resulting from her rage since Bellamy had broken up with her but that isn't what happened. Bellamy was actually coming to get her to sweep her off her feet and take her to a far off land and marry her. But his ship wrecked instead. Her grave and that of her son can be found in Eastham. I know, I've put flowers on it. I am descended from her sister.
