I remember a short interaction between an inquisitor and his black shield where the man's curiosity takes a hold of him and he demands to black shield remove his helmet all while threatening and squaring up to him, the Astartes seeing this as a waste of time removes his helmet, the inquisitor muses "pale skin, black eyes Raven Guard?" the Astartes smiles widely, sharp filed teeth on show and says "are my sins still forgiven" in an accent thick as mud and just as the inquisitor realized what's in front of him and how close it is "night lord". I don't know where I found it, but it just tickled me pink

Do you plan on doing a episode on Endryd Haar, one of the cooler 12th Legion characters since he refused the butchers nails? He led the Blackshields faction known as the “Fangs of the Emperor”. Malcador had held Endryd in sch high regard that he allowed the Fangs of the Emperor to take part during the Siege of Terra.

Love some Black Shields! Favorite has got to be Endryd 'The Riven Hound' Haar. Here's a sick quote; "The Riven Hound slammed Abaddon into the wall. Bricks shattered. Abaddon felt bones break and organs rupture. Haar was size and brute strength. There was no skill to speak of. Just beautiful fury, like one of Russ’ pack-dogs, or Angron’s thug Kharn. A wall of strength that crushed everything before it. The Blackshield had him by the throat. Haar took six or seven of Abaddon’s kill-thrusts in the belly and chest, and refused to die. Just refused. His strength seemed to grow as the blood wept out of him. Haar’s power fist, like a siege ram, hammered at Abaddon’s head until his helmet broke and deformed, and Abaddon’s face was a mess of gore."

@@VA_Nightshade Actually used something like this for my loyalist World Eaters army. Basically the WE army was out in a distant corner of the Imperium training new members. So by the time they got the call to help with Istvan; they were already going to be late. Cue a warp storm halfway through their travel; and they end up on a backwater world that the Ultramarines were defending from an unknown alien menace. They then decided to help the Ultramarines defend the planet and spent most of the war with the defense. Eventually they were able to eliminate they alien force and get both space fleets repaired. They then joined the rest of Ultramars force. Near the end of the heresy; the Ultramarines covered up the fact that these were WE soldiers and helped them create a new armor and color scheme. This mostly worked due to only a handful of senior members having the butchers nails. The ones with the nails took up the black shield while helping to finish the training of the rest of the soldiers. They eventually stayed on as instructors in hand to hand combat for both the WE and Ultramarines. Thus was the backstory of my ''Ultramarine' army.

I’ve always believed that upon Angron’s Discovery he should have been put into a permanent coma, used as a gene seed factory, and the War Hounds (Pre Angron World Eaters) made into a Black Shield Legion Under the Direct Authority of the Emperor and Malcador.

Yep, can't disagree. The traitor primarchs all had different reasons for their falls, some a little more predictable than others. But the Emperor seriously shit the bed by not noticing that in Angron he had a brain fucked rampaging lunatic primarch who quite clearly despised him. But instead of dealing with it he decided "nah, it'll be fine" and just left him to it. What makes that even more monumentally stupid is that in canon the emperor knew that whoever he chose as warmaster would eventually turn traitor, and only a massive dipshit would not follow the logic that the psychotic brain fucked kill machine who hates him would be quite likely to join sides with Horus, or literally anyone strong enough to try and fuck the emperor over. 🤦 Most of the primarchs fall to traitor and chaos can be described as pretty weak writing in terms of them following genuine and believably logical character arcs. But the writing of the big E's handling of Angron in particular is just comically bad. 😂

Yeah...no. Let's put a Primarch into a Coma and harvest him for genetic material over the Millenia. What could possibly go wrong? It's not like that's a surefire way to guarantee Angron gets corrupted and his Gene Seed spawns Chaos or anything... That would most assuredly result in Chaos corrupting Angron in his Coma, there's no way that kind of tortured existence escapes their notice.

Yeah, but it likely seems that Big E doesn't want his son, any of them. to be relegated to such a fate. It seems likely he wanted Angron to live out his life in some form or another while still aiding in the Great Crusade. at least thats my take on it.

Makes me wonder if the Space Sharks are chapter of loyalist Night Lords drawn from black shield stock. They could also possibly be a chimeric chapter made of a mix of Night Lord and World Eater geneseed too because they certainly fight with a healthy mix of brutality and fear.

I think the Carcharadons are Raven Guard originating from one of the Terran formations Corvus exiled, the Ashen Claws seem to be the Raven Guard/Night Lords mix.

Here the charcaradons are offering ravenguard gene-seed to the Ashen Claws in exchange for wargear and such. If either of them are indeed chimeric, it's the space sharks. I rather like the idea that they are the result of Kalibos' gene-seed experiments found (and perhaps continued) by Endryd Haar.

@@myself2nooneWell that gets kind of balanced out by the Hammers of Dorn. I love that chapter. They exist purely to spite the Ultramarines. They hunt Word Bearers, because they want to poach trophy kills and rub the Ultramarines noses in it. They are more codex complaint (actually I think they are the MOST codex compliant chapter) than most Ultramarines chapters, not because they believe in the codex but because they just want to hold that over all Ultramarines. Like "this is how much BETTER than YOU we are."

It's also nice that the Deathwatch can get slightly more "permanent" members from Black Shield stock. In my understanding, most Astartes who are seconded to the Watch are sent there for a somewhat predetermined time frame, and then they are expected to return to their parent Chapter. This is fine, as it keeps the Watch troops fresh, and benefits the Chapters with new experience, but since Black Shields don't really have a Chapter anticipating their return, they can remain with the Watch longterm, and since it helps them be a more elite, anti-xenos focus faction, all's good.

Some many years ago I came up with some lore for a hero Chaplain in a homebrew chapter, long story short he started and led a force called the Black Shield Crusade whose primary purpose was to fight wars that were deemed lost. Tyranids turn up and your world is going to be eaten? Wider Imperium considers it not worth the expense? Well if your lucky a bunch of random Astartes from a bunch of different chapters some of whom from chapters of dubious loyalty shall we say would turn up to defend it regardless. There whole vibe was "The Administrarum may not think you're worth the effort, the Emperor however disagree's". I never told anyone that lore, then GW made official blackshields and I was like FML.

I mean, all their abilities seem focus in the warp in sme form or another. As such, Lorgar and Magnus are psykers, while Corax has his invisibility, Angron was an empath, Mortarian had his aura that exhausted his oponents, Perterabo always saw the Eye of terror, the Khan had his speed, and Konrad had a weaker form of invisibility and prohphetic visions. By this viewpoint, most their powers like this are largely unknown or non existant at the moment, minus Johnsons forest walking. If I had to guess at least, Sanguinius was possibly a war aura that buffed his fighting prowess, as he was a beast when angry. Vulkan, for obvious reasons, might have been a fire focused psyker. Alpharius/Omegon were probably shapeshifters. Russ would most likely be some form of bestial rage/transformation. And Dorn would mostly have some form of invincibility.

even if you did kill a chaos god, the warp imprint is still there due to the thoughts and emotions of human (and other) souls effecting the warp so the chaos god will simply reform after a certain amount of time. certainly it will be weaker and without as much souls to power itself as before but it won't really die in a meaningful sense until the warp itself is unfucked.
