As someone who struggled with loneliness in later life into my 50s and people that have interests in things I like is rare, these videos are like hanging out with some like-minded friends. The only missing thing is the actual bacon sandwiches and cups of tea and chats in IRL. 🥪☕ I really miss my old ppl days out of High Wycombe EGTB, I have an add-on for that airfield in the MSFS to relive those memories.

Love it. I enjoyed your humour when you said “Just give me ten minutes until I slow down”. Haha, yep it appears a bit too slippery. Personally I’d prefer the autopilot controls being in front of me, especially when flying at night, as I find the lighting to be a bit poor in certain areas. It was good in real life, as we flew night freight, and never gave it a second thought. Nathan’s personal knowledge of real world King Air ops is very much appreciated. 🙏

Really appreciate both videos on this black square upgrade to the King Air, and I really like when you bring your friend on to discuss the twin Cessnas, or in this case now Textron twin turbo-props. I purchased it on your recommendations. I've always loved King Airs, and enjoyed the Carenados for FSX for many years. Those were always stellar, the C90s, and the 350 upgrades a few years back. I really desire a true-to-life study level turbo-prop for these newer sims, in the way that Fenix and Fly-By-Wire has done for the A320, and this comes very close. And then we get frustrated with a lack of propeller and flap drag for landing, feathering capabilities/qualities which spoil landing approaches and emergency engine-out practice. It's like the Milviz 310, which brilliantly models the realism of the aircraft until you lower the flaps and it gives you too much drag and you land like a rock even with almost full power. So while you have to come in with either zero power and/or condition levers at low idle to land this King Air without floating long, or you have to land the Milviz without flaps in order to land gracefully there, those can set up a lot of bad habits for those who happen to fly these aircraft in real life. One of these days, I'm hoping for the high fidelity approach that Fenix is giving the A320 to light or lighter aircraft as well, and I'm betting my investment in MSFS2020 that they will take flight modeling more seriously as they improve the product so we can get better accuracy with performance because we're not quite there, even though we're frustratingly closer than we've ever been. The Black Square team are open about what they can't model properly due to the limitations of the default King Air and the overall sim limitations, but I still think this product is worth it in the short run. It will improve as the sim improves. But who knows, perhaps Simworks Studios will do a King Air as they have marvelously modeled the Kodiak 100, which began strong and continues to improve and add features.
@FlyFromHome

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! Yes it is frustrating that these otherwise brilliant products are held back a little by certain things. Personally I think the best flight model in the game is the C414A by Flysimware, as it exhibits all the correct behaviour and handles beautifully - but that’s just my opinion!
@adjuaadama6623

@@FlyFromHome Absolutely, that is my regular go-to for multi-piston operations and procedures/emergencies. Does everything a King Air might, minus the PT6's. By the way, I saw another Airbus captain who used to fly the Beech 99s for Ameriflight test this product out, and he said most people fly these aircraft with low idle rather than high idle, unless you're coming into high elevation airports. Said they almost never used high idle except for battery starts with that right engine. I tried that and the Black Square is much easier to fly approaches and traffic patterns to landing that way. Then you just use a little bit of the Beta range to slow down, if at all, when touching down. That made using this King Air much easier to handle.
@FlyFromHome
@FlyFromHome Жыл бұрын
Yep that’s what we did on the previous vid! We only used high idle this time as we were trying to land on a very short runway. I’m keen to try out the new update though as apparently they’ve addressed some of the issues regarding prop drag…
@adjuaadama6623
@adjuaadama6623 Жыл бұрын
@@FlyFromHome I've used it the last couple of days; YES, it's MUCH better, on many levels. They addressed a lot of major issues, and the flight profile on approach and landing is far easier to manage properly even with high idle set throughout. If you keep the props at 1600 on touchdown and then advance them full forward while braking (as some airline operations specify) you don't need beta range at all unless it's a short runway. You can also hear outside now when you open the windows as well. I didn't check to see if the model has the windows open from the outside yet, but before you couldn't hear outside. Now you can.

Thoroughly enjoyed this video! I too struggled with Nathan's audio, but his knowledge and experience makes the struggle worthwhile 😆, so thanks Nathan. Years ago, I bought a DVD showcasing the KA350 (analog gauges) and the pilot flew from KAPA to KTEX in Colorado. I fell in love with the 350 and that video is still one of my favorites. A few years ago, I ticked off a bucket-list item which was to land at KTEX (Telluride, CO), which I first learned of in FSX (the Learjet landing mission). I flew commercial from my home in NJ, to Montrose, CO. where I took a mountain flying course with a CFI and we flew up to KTEX. The beautiful Rocky Mountains were breathtaking! The airport is on a mesa, 9070' MSL (highest commercial airport in the country) which made the landing similar to landing on an aircraft carrier. As a private pilot, this was one of the most amazing experiences I've had since getting my PPL twenty five years ago! Anyhow, I will definitely be purchasing this to fly in VR (Aero). 🙂

Thank for that in-depth review. I'm just experiencing that aircraft now and fully agree with your comments. The lag of drag when pulling levers is a still missing piece of turboprop simulation by Asobo. Beta range simulation is just currently falling short. I have one question on the AP you may help me with: As there is no indication of a VS being set, would activating VS in climb not take the actual one as reference and not as now level off?
@FlyFromHome
@FlyFromHome Жыл бұрын
The good thing is that if Asobo keep working on prop dynamics, this thing should get better and better along with it. I’m honestly not sure, maybe Nathan will spot this comment and be able to help you 😂 Normally though, we don’t climb any aircraft in VS mode as there’s no speed protection. Usually it’s IAS mode.
@Overheadjoin
@Overheadjoin Жыл бұрын
Hi Alexander, there is no way unfortunately of seeing what VS has been set. Yes you can activate VS in climb or descent as you metioned but as the previous comment explains we wouldn't normally ever climb in VS. The buttons on the AP for the VS activate 200fpm for every click up or down, I hope this makes more sense now?

@@FlyFromHome I like the idea, but you didn't really do that though. Next time at the beginning off the startup procedure you should turn on the instrument lights and overhead cabin lights. Not half way through the checklist and then off again. Those should be modeled and would be a better demonstration of using the modeled lighting and instruments during startup than using the flashlight. The whole startup was very dark. Then flying into the sunrise means the panel is in shadow.

@@Redridge07 Fair enough. In fact, I got on the case of another KZfaqr for teaching his virtual helicopter student the incorrect terminology for the anti-torque pedals (or pedals). He kept calling them "rudders". When I called him out on it, he tried to deflect. I even explained the difference (which I'm sure he understood), but his ego was too big to admit that I was right. I'm a fixed wing pilot IRL, but I know the difference between a "rudder" and an anti-torque rotor and pedal. I've never heard a real rotary pilot call them rudders 🤨
