I was in high school when the "roots come alive" album came out. I had memorised mad songs already, but listening to the live performances I realized that Thought is not human. His mind is too agile, versatile, and vicious. Not human. He flipped so many lyrics in the live shows, I realized that the lyrics on the original album were just a snap shot of his mind at the time... The lyrics and the ideas don't ever stop moving and evolving. Every time he touches the mic it's live and direct, hot off the grill..

I figured out why this man is so under rated. Because he's a real down to earth dude and doesn't stir up any garbage. I don't know why they're even pressing him to discuss petty politics. He's a grown man who doesn't care. This and the interview he did with NPR just put him in my role model list with Jay Z.

Criminally underrated god MC status right here!!! first time I heard Black Thought rap was in 96 on the Roots single *What They Do*. The timeless flow, introspective bars and the gravitas of his cadence just affirmed what a special talent he is.

I love this interview! It's so important for an emcee to be versatile and being able to rock at many tempos and styles. That's what I think casual fans don't understand about hip-hop! These emcees are on a god-level for music-making skills and can't be compared to these mumble rappers and most of the new artists.
