The Fallen State

The Fallen State

7 жыл бұрын

At universities around the United States, black college student groups are holding major protests against their school administrations, demanding multi-million dollar endowments, separate and free housing for black students, and even lobbying for days without white students. On this episode of TheFallenState TV, Jesse Lee Peterson sits down with Alicia Frison, chairwoman of the UCLA Afrikan Student Union. Under Alicia's leadership, the UCLA Afrikan Student Union recently released a list of seven demands, including housing, more black faculty members, and a $40 million endowment to address "African-American underrepresentation on campus." Alicia reveals to Jesse that she became especially interested in African American Studies after she enrolled at UCLA and was exposed to social justice spaces and terms like "white privilege."

I wish you would enlighten these people to the fact that at the HEIGHT of slavery only 1.5% - 2% of the population owned slaves, the ultra rich. While the overall population of the country was much much lower there was never more than a few hundred thousand slaves. These people base all their views and hate of the white man on the false believe that practically all whites owned slaves, utter nonsense.
@SCOTTSTALLARDBERMUDA
@SCOTTSTALLARDBERMUDA 7 жыл бұрын
In addition, the unspoken fact it seems is that the areas that had the most slaves are now among the poorest...Haiti, Jamaica, Brazil, Southern United States...so slavery actually ended up impoverishing those areas, not enriching. Very few fortunes ever last more than 3 generations.

She has all the signs of someone who’s been over-educated on race by a racist (or racists), and she bought into everything they were selling. She has all of the lingo and concepts down but has none of the anger that is typically shown by those who authentically think like she thinks now. As an aside, are students who graduate with degrees in African American Studies in high demand in the job market? If you run a business, what roles in that business would have an African American Studies degree as a job requirement?

I got all sorts of racist comments just for being white in the early 90's. Guess what? I learned how to stand up for myself and move passed it. My mother was on drugs when I was 9-21years old. As a Junior High School and HS student I had poor study skills. My mom and other adults were not able to recognize that I had this problem because my mom barely had a fifth grade education. So there is no blame for my circumstance, I simply had to struggle through. And with my struggle I was able to realize what I was missing, and to prepare my children for study by providing an atmosphere where my children could do better than I did. Don't blame others, just seek to do better!

That's the objective of the bourgeoisie? To keep the Proletariat down? Although I don't agree with some of Karl Marx's Marxism ideology. He sure nailed what eventually Capitalism would do to itself. At current 2018 (state of current situation in our Anarcapitalistic USA) Marx nailed it imo 160 years ago. Say what you want about his sociological beliefs about how Capitalism will eat itself away with greed of the ruling factions. There is no ceiling for the industrial rule of the bourgeoisie, but the proletariat has ground to stay on. The polarization becomes wider and only thing left to do is revolt. Then a new social society will form.

@@cathycupcake6849 I question your conclusions about Irish oppression. My grandparents and father were Irish, and yes, their forefathers experienced very tough economic hardships in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. One can never forget the appalling Irish potato famine of 1846. One also can’t forget the serious political, social and religious impediments of the 18th and 19th centuries, which hung like a yoke around their neck when under British rule. In effect, they were second class citizens in their own country. However, since 1900, Irish people in general have worked hard wherever they migrated, be it the USA, Australia or England. In the 20th and 21st centuries, we have witnessed an amazing Irish cultural and economic renaissance. The Irish, as a people, have made enormous contributions to the arts, literature, music, etc - as well as to manufacturing, the construction industry - and not forgetting politics and government. Indeed, many Irish folk became so successful politically speaking, they became part of the establishment and are now part of mainstream society. Yes, the Irish historically were oppressed, but they didn’t whine about, but instead pulled themselves up by their bootstraps to succeed and thus conquer poverty and despair.

@@geoffm9944 part of our country is still under British rule though My original comment was in response to the guest saying that black people were the only oppressed people in history which is totally inaccurate I was just giving an example how Irish people who are predominantly white were also oppressed for centuries However he obviously has never studied history outside of his own history to ever understand any of that he knows nothing of our history or culture. This is a vast contrast to our country where world history is taught in the school as part of the curriculum so therefore citizens are more aware of the history of other nations.

@@cathycupcake6849 The problem with discussing oppression or persecution of different races is how you define oppression and persecution. Both are indissolubly linked. In its most obvious and blatant manifestations, physical oppression and persecution, such as slavery, is of of course, totally indefensible. It was a repugnant and vile institution, which was practised in the Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire - and by many Arab rulers in Africa, not forgetting slavery in the British Empire and in the USA. Jewish people have throughout their history suffered terribly at the hands of European rulers, particularly in Czarist Russia and of course Nazi Germany, to name just a few of the European countries which have oppressed or persecuted the Jews. However, we live thankfully in a more tolerant and enlightened world, where young people can receive a good education and pursue a professional, business or engineering career, according to their talents. My concern with such black activist groups like the BLM is the constant moaning about being ‘oppressed’ which frankly doesn’t stand up to scrutiny, as these days you can achieve a good standard of living and achieve your aspirational goals if you study and work hard enough. In certain parts of the USA and the U.K. you have a permanent grievance culture, as expressed by BLM , where individuals blame the establishment and capitalism for all their perceived woes. This is not only a self defeating exercise, it’s a useful excuse to blame others for their own problems. Life is all about taking and exercising self discipline and taking the ‘rough with the smooth.’ Blaming the odious institution of 18th and 19th slavery in the 21st century is simply a means of creating a permanent victimhood culture, which is nihilistic and doomed to failure.

Wether you want to believe it or not, black people are the most unique race on the planet & they are the most uneducated when it comes to the power they possess. They need a place where they can build their self esteem as well as their knowledge of self. Regular public school system teach about Columbus and European history which teaches AA that they will always come in 2nd place to ME the white man. It also has no value to a black student and is full of lies. Its a shame AA have not came to this conclusion yet and united together to upgrade their own race. But judging off how you think, if the majority think like you than yes you will always be last & never Prevail to your full potential.

My parents are strong and have worked hard for everything we have, they never asked a single person white or black for a hand out. Human Being I think you my friend are underestimating black society. They are begging the money from white people, because like you, they don't trust their own people to be good enough, have enough money, they don't trust their people have enough caring about education. White people giving them special threatening (entering the school, giving money etc) is NOT doing black community any good in a long term. They now need to start building their own way, with their own talents and money. You see, I'm white myself. I'm from Finland and us Finnish people were slaves too. We had to build our country too, we had to figure out how to get people educated etc. It's something we had to learn and do by ourselves. Everybody have had their own problems, really heavy problems, but now there is no slavery anymore. Now what is left? Hard work, and black people are completely capable doing so, making it happen by relying their own community.

So a painting of Jesus reflect the person and whites did it first and the painting of Jesus white is original in a sense of sharing, not because he was. It's such a shame to hear "black students only day" being supported by people from a program that was founded by a white individual out of true, sincere love and passion for Afrikan culture. John Smith seriously. My saying for that is if you can't support yourself or barely support yourself than having a baby should be the farthest thing from your mind , this is why abortion is a thing because certain people don't have the means to take care of another person let alone themselves but than our government sets out all this free money section 8/food stamps/welfare etc etc that makes them able to do so. But than if you make just enough to be above that line you can't get any of those things which is stupid because I work my ass off and can't get any assistance when supposedly there's this white privilege that makes it "easier" for white people to succeed (totally contradicting) but if I lay on my ass and do nothing (most minority's) (no offense) than I can live Better than most people black white or brown. I know people who have all those things and live like royalty ghetto royalty that is jut keep poppin babies out and sitting on your ass and the money keeps flowing. All races benefit from this don't get me wrong but the majority is minority so if anything the real privilege is minority privilege. *mic drop

Im white and I had a very hard begining, parents made crazy choices but we forget that our parents are probalby 90% of our issue.. some white people are wealthy, but so are Indian, asain and black. I would hate for any child to think another child wont play with them becuase of their skin color, no matter what color it is.

I’m from Mexican decent and the next generation is brainwashed to thinking white people hate them. I remember people tried telling me this in Mexico but my experience with white people proved them all wrong. They also made generalizations out of the media. It’s sad people are hating out of fear. They are taught to fear or not trust a certain race. That eventually turns to hate. And to hate something or someone you don’t even know is the most ignorant thing you can do. It’s extremely toxic.

This is true. poisoned. It happens to so many blacks. It's frustrating. I want them to feel empowered not like someone is after them or wanting to hold them back. That's a horrible way to live and think. Especially, since it's not true. The vast majority of people could care less about color and want the best for one another.
