Hey guys! In this video I will be doing a brush test for Black Velvet 3000s by Silver Brush Ltd. I am reviewing size 8 because it is the size I used normally and also the most recommended size for a first buy.
This is a watercolor brush that is made of squirrel hair mix with black synthetic hair. The brush is really versatile. Please check out the video to see what I mean. :) Thank you for watching!

Good review, I know that the evolution of synthetic filaments (hair) for brushes has become almost as good as natural fibers. In fact the reasons for using natural hair brushes are truly insignificant. When you consider the cruelty question of how natural hair is sourced there is no point in buying natural hair brushes! I know that some brushes are responsibly made, yet some manufacturers are unwilling to disclose how they get their supplies for brush manufacturing! I believe that this is wrong. So I am not interested in buying new natural hair brushes. Now 30 years ago I did buy squirrel hair brushes and I still own them, but I will buy synthetic brushes from now on! Have you tried the 4850 series from Princeton? They are a Kolinsky synthetic brushes and they are marvelous! Much less expensive too! You might consider creating a video testing these brushes. You may decide to take a stand and no longer purchase questionable supplies for creating your art! Good luck and have a lovely day.

Hi there, thank you for your reply. Yes I would agree about the cruelty question of how natural hair is sourced. It is still a dilemma on my side. I still love to use natural hair so it is very important to know who we're getting the brushes from. I haven't tried Princeton but I love my Escoda Kolinsky synthetic. It is amazing and I won't let it go. I'd love to do more brush reviews actually. Please be patient with me. :) Thank you so much for dropping by!

I really like that brushes. I have a few and really impressed. I also like escoda Aquario round point (I mean - not mop), also is a very good brush from natural squerl

Silver Brush is known to have very bad customer service. They don’t honour the guarantee or exchange a unit that has a manufacturing defect. Some people also report that their customer service department doesn’t even respond to requests. I think it’s best to buy from a different brand.

This, or Da Vinci Kolinsky or Da Vinci Red Sable? Which would be better for Landscapes on A4 size Arches paper? Thanks in advance

I haven't tried Da Vinci Red Sable, but Da Vinci Kolinsky hair is quite versatile including making textured painting. For Black Velvet, it is using squirrel hair so it is softer than Kolinsky. You will get a slightly smoother texture and it is very water absorbent. Personally, I prefer black velvet to Da Vinci kolinsky. Surprisingly.

@@LeftturnArt You're right! It looks like Black Velvet works better than any Da Vinci brush I've seen, which is huge, since Da Vinci are considered Top of the line brushes! Thanks for the response!!!
