Mod 3 cam and ARC billet rod install on a Tillotson 212
Installed a Mod 3 cam and ARC 6773 billet rod in the Tillotson 212 engine on the Baja racer/ Doodlebug minibike . Did some top speed runs to see if adding the parts added any top speed?

I’ve learned to go ahead and put 26lb springs in my engines. A week or two goes by and I’ll end up ordering some ratio rockers or something to increase Rpm’s and I’ll end up needing bigger springs anyway so I now, after removing the governor and port/polish + shaving the head I go ahead and throw ,a set of 26 lb springs in it, and some exhaust tuning !! “Turning like Good Gas !”

cant shim HEMI valve springs without opening up the spring pockets with some kind of reamer tool. the HEMI has keepers in the head to keep the spring from wandering around. the NON hemi does not have those little alum posts cast into the spring pockets.

karters drill out the oil hole on stock rod for MORE OIL TO ROD JOURNAL. cut 1/4-3/8 inch off oil dipper so it wont hit bottom ofmotor and break off rod cap. they also polish the rod journal bearing surface with 2000 grit sandpaper emery cloth so the rod journal is super smooth and even if it takes the rod journal down a .001 or .002 inch more of clearance that is ok. for more oil to get to rod journal for high speeds so the rod wont spin weld itself to the crankshaft
@Schnazzle
@Schnazzle 2 жыл бұрын
I was wondering if you used plastiguage to check for oil clearance on the rod or if you think it’s not too necessary just a “just in case” precaution
@Black66

I have never had to send a rod back but Yes, I think it's a good idea to check the clearance with plastiguage Inexpensive insurance and it only takes a few minutes.

I am so stuck. I have a tilitson 212ee and there’s a knocking noise. First I thought it was rod knock so I got new bearing and it still was there. Then I thought my clutch superheated me crank and I replaced that and still nothing. I just figured out that something must be hitting the side cover because when I have it off the sound disappears. Anything helps. Thanks.

where did you get the head stud kit from? I have a kit from GPS it works, but a lot of thread sticks up past the nut, and on an OMB kit (which doesn't work) the studs are too long and part of the unthreaded stud sticks up past the head..I'm running a GX160 head in a Tillotson 68mm bore race block on one engine and a Tillotson 225r head on a 72mm Tillotson race block on another

less parasitic losses from too much spring of the 22/26 # springs. most of the engines are DONE by 6500 RPMs anyway in regards to making HP. the head , without being well ported and a BIGGER Cam... .274+ just cant get enuf air fuel thru the 25mm intake hole to make more power. 18# springs shd get to ~6500 and absorb less power/easier on the cam than 22/26# springs... ~6500/7800 RPMs Respectively.

Unrelated question. I’m new here and have very little mini bike experience other than as a kid riding my friends and 15 years ago I fixed one up for my 7 year old son. Recently I fixed one up for my 8 year old daughter then bought myself a project to ride with her. Mine came with a new stock 212 predator. Where should I start with performance upgrades without going crazy rebuilding the whole engine

It's showing on the calculator that your engine is only turning about 3600 RPM at that speed. I bet you have too much gear. You are running a 3.78 ratio. That's a lot of gear for a mild engine. I bet you gain Top speed by going the opposite way and dropping a few clutch teeth to get the engine more in the optimal RPM range.

@@Black66 what mods can I do to get higher rpm I really don't want to change my clutch
@Black66
@Black66 2 жыл бұрын
@@UnAttempted If you already have a header pipe and a high flow air filter with the carb re-jetted you can add better valve springs,18lb or 22lb springs. That will increase RPM potential. A slide carburetor will help. If you really want to wake it up install a Mod 2 or 265 cam and a billet rod and flywheel.
